Greetings,

Would like to seek advice or help from the kind community here. Is this game limited only to US/NZ/AUS? I am from South-East Asia and would very much like to participate in the endeavours between the Hordes and Alliance (die you weaklings! XD just k/d).

My guild originated from Australia but they have members including me from all over the world. They are playing on Blackrock server. Problem is, creating an account needs a valid US/NZ/AUS CC details. Any advice?

Some mentioned getting a US address and then entering my visa/master but I searched on some other boards, this method does not really work. Another alternative is to get a friend from any of those region to pass me their cc details while I pay them back via paypal or something. WHAT IF you do not have any friends or any that is willing to do so, e.g. I am starting this game new without having any guild or friends from overseas?

The last alternative is to use gamecards but those are not out yet. Last I have heard, it will not be shipped to my country either T_T. Even so, the hassle of buying gamecards sucks compared to direct payment via visa/master.

I feel left out and discriminated. Seems like Blizzard is telling us "The Asian gaming market is not welcome nor needed". Any constructive advice please, besides 'borrowing' a mutual friend's cc details (resulting in possible identity theft) or using gamecards (which are not even out... >_<)?

S.O.S.

Damn, should not have touched Open Beta. Should have continued my idling time in Lower Jeuno Auction House...

And for the Alliance lovers: prepare to bow before the might of the Hordes! XD

Bliz has said they intend to keep server clusters "localized". What's this mean? European, US (plus some) and Korean (and those nearby?) will not get to play on the same servers as each other. Best comparison would be DVDs, I can't play DVDs coded for Asia.

It sucks but it's Blizzard's game, it's up to them to make their rules. I have heard of non-US player in on the US servers already, dunno what Bliz will do to them when discovered, if anything.

Good luck.

Yes, but that sucks is it not? Assuming that a guild is made entirely on a nation only is naive. My guild as mentioned, consist of players not only from Australia but from US, HK, Asia and many other regions as well.

A few questions:

i. What if a US guild decides to wage war with an Australian guild to see who has 'better' pvp skills or management? Localized servers mean it is US vs US, Aus vs Aus right? That blows >_<

ii. Will I be forced into a Korean server since I am from Asia? Just take this question as a statement as I know you are not in the right position to answer me. But boy am I REALLLY excited about it. Remembering the good O' Diablo 2 days, being 'forced' into a server with 3/4 a population that is reluctant to speak a language (English) I am familiar with is... e-x-c-i-t-i-n-g? Dee ja vuu anyone???

iii. So no more intenational competition? I remember in Shadowbane, those pvp wars participated by guilds from various regions around the world were hell lot of fun. You get to see different culture and style of play/behaviour too. I will not be seeing any of this in WoW? T_T

It is a good day to be sad.

Alright, forget about replying. The above thread reflects a vast number of player's mentality. I sure hope that the community in here are not as racist as those in that forum, though I am being hopeful. Racism is at large.

Giving an example, I remember when FF XI was released in Japan only and many cried foul, including myself from SE Asia. Still, there were quite a many who were desperate and imported the game. Did they say "ban foreign ips" or anything like that?

Honestly, it is not the server that concerns me. I just want to play with my guild, which happens fortunately or unfortunately to be an international guild. I am proud to be part of it and I want to be part of its success. What is wrong with that? Why are we being forced to play in our localized servers? I am clueless and speechless.

Prevent overcrowding? Then open up more servers or improve your servers. I do not see other MMORPG having this problem (again citing FF XI as just ONE example). And I am sad because I am unable to post in that blizzard forum due to not having an account yet.

Some Americans claim that Japanese are racists where a small sample of them speaks for themselves. How ironic. I am not generalizing by saying ALL Americans are racists but the sample size is disturbing.

Think about it this way: if Asia gets a server first and everyone from US/NZ/AUS is told to wait for their server to launch a few months later, what would YOU do?

I will not do anything. Server location interest me not. The key is: I want to play with my guild. Simple as that. DOH!

I serve in the military in Europe and if they think I am going to lock myself into a euorpean server they are nuts. I have a stateside address and will use it so that, like the OP wants to do, I can be with my friends.

That thread makes me ill though, some of the opinions are off the wall in my opinion.

I don't think its racism. IF you ever played any MMORPG's then you know that Asian Currency Sellers will destroy the economy and inflate all prices. Hence i believe they belong to thier own servers. I'm not racist myself, i'm Chinese/Australian, living in AUS and i know that the only reason any chinese person who lives in china will play WOW on US servers just to farm money and sell it for real cash. why? Well because the cost of the monstly fee in US dollars equal to about 2-3 days of a chines persons wage (average). And i don't think anyone will seriously play a game which will cost them 2-3 days of work.

BTW if asia opened up their servers first there's no way in
HELL i'd join the ASIAN servers, i'd be more then happy to wait just to make sure no Currency sellers can ever enter the servers.

To DaveoPan:

Do not be naive and silly. Buying and selling game currency has always been prominent in alot of MMORPG. Do not be misled by the general consensus as many of them are frustrated and hence are just finding a scapegoat to blame. Think logically and reason:

Currency farmers? If there are no buyers (and guess who are buying the currency in the first place?), where is the demand for them to exist? Maybe you should ban the currency buyers too.

WoW tries to minimise this effect of currency buying because, if you have played the game for a reasonable time, getting money is not as time consuming and is actually possible, as compared to a game say FF XI.

You know that they are farming as a fact? Any proof? Or was it hearsay and reading other threads? Which ever the case, it is a game flaw which should be fixed by the game designers. Not banning of IPs which is silly.

Take the time to think of people like Tsakiera, or others who have to be out of US for attachment/commitment, what about them? Also note that there are international competitive guilds out there like mine with members from all round the world. Diversity and cultural exchange.

Rather than lay the blame on servers being overcrowded by foreign ips or what not, why not blame it on the massive overcrowding due to first day launch of the game (this is predicted to happen). Why separate people who wants to get together. Localized server policy is weird to me, and it is the first time I am seeing this policy. More importantly, open up the servers to players from all around the world who wants to be with their guild!

Before you follow the general bandwagon of what YOU think and feel, be it augmented or heavily biased with frustrations or contentment, please present a logical argument of how and why you think your stance is valid.

Thank you.

Sorry, but you have me confused...

"I don't think its racism" "Asian Currency Sellers will destroy the economy and inflate all prices" "I'm not racist myself"

This is not racist?

This isn't meant as an attack or anything, you just confused me... How can you say "this isn't about race... damn those asian currency sellers... I'm not racist."

I dunno~

But yeah, my sympathies to the OP, you should be able to play with your friends.

Banning IP? blocking people? thats just to stupid..
From playing FFXI my server is in Japan, does it hurt the JP people? no, does it hurt me? in some way, about NM popping show up etc.. but still it dont hurt your speed and lag..
I can see the point with banning China in some ways, most gilsellers is Chinese, but the problem is in the people who buy the gil, not the people who sell it..
I am again pretty sure Blizzard will not do it, the want their money as much as SE want.. and the game card will most likly work no matter where you is..
Some people that play MMO games is morons, if you really want to play with the guys that live 2 houses away then fine, but most people like MMO because you can play with people from everywhere.
FFXI has people on all server from everywhere, Europe, Africa, UAE, JP, US , Australia and China.. Never lag beside Lower Jeuno when there is 500 people there, and the FFXI server has 2000-5000 people on at the same time.. I just bet Blizzard cant match SE in their server because they dont want to buy bigger or better server for the speed, maybe why they say this, because they dont care for YOU, but for your money.. They say its because of connection speed, but we all know thats just ******** if you have played FFXI, it works perfect..

Anyways lets hope it work, and that Game Card work if CC dont..
Also many people want to join up at the same time, why? well seeing how many JP own FFXU due the fact they got the game so early beside the other..

One last thing, some of you US Moron say that the game is realesed in US first, that mean no other should play it before its realesed in their country..
Think about it, how many games does Europe get first?
I dont remember what game but it was talking about a game realesed in EU first, the US people was angry and went crazy right away..
And a SNES Game named Terranigma, cost me 30$ in Norway, can sell it in US for like 300-400$, why? because US think its rare because they never got it...

Some ppl said on the VN boards by ign that using their non-us/aus visa worked when using a fake AUS address (not US).

I live in thailand and ordered a copy from Amazon.com. I think they ship worldwide and some other companies do too. Game cards will come out soon and if there is no other way then perhaps you should just do that. Fortunately, I have family in the US so I have my stuff send there and they wil send me my key by e-mail. Amazon actually uses gamestop.com

When I get my key I will try using my visa card from the caribbean (not us territory but in USDollars). I could let you know what works for me when I get my key. Which will probably be by Monday.

Players over sea able to play? Yeaaaap!

Keep an eye on the above thread. From the Blizzard FAQ we can asume a international CC should work.

I pre-ordered the game and once I tried it to confirm if my CC works I will update that topic. (I read Aereozz will do the same)

FYI: I live in Netherlands and have an aunt in Canada whose address I can use as Billing address. My CC is valid in the US because I use it to buy stuff there from time to time (pre-ordered WoW in Canada).

well, I waited till FFXI was released in US. And Europe did too. Theyre not picking sides, blizzard has been a US based country since it began. It's simply easier to start it here, and then branch out. Did Square enix not do the same thing? And as to your "most americans are racist comment" think about this:

Over 2/3rds of the Asian players in FFXI had {English} {party} {too weak} {no thanks!}. That to me seems like flat out racism. Grouping every north american or european player in a {too weak} catagory? Yep, last i checked that is racism.

That gil selling comment is off. North americans sold gil and accounts too. I bet even some of the FFXI refugees sold their accounts when they quit for a nice chunk of cash. I bet i could get $100+ for mine, but i'de rather give to friends lol

Woah Derox, hold on here. Whoever said 'most americans are racist'? Read my thread as well as others' properly before jumping the gun. I mentioned a small sample of racist folks as evident in that forum (with url provided) but never once did I generalize ALL Americans to be racists. Reading carefully is essential, especially in sensitive topics like those.

In any case, my main concern is to allow OP players to play with their guild. As mentioned, I could not care the heck if I am placed in Korea server or EU server or anywhere. Just let me in with my guild!

And for those who responded so optimistically and provided updates, please continue to update me as well as other concerned OP. Would really really appreciate.

Many thanks and may the Horde win (hah! I am biased, too bad XD)

Six, my personal advice is to just avoid the Blizard forums. I'll venture in there if I want server status updates, but I refuse to read anything that doesn't have blue text in it. About 98% of posters in those forums post useless, whine, rude, or just downright stupid posts. Do yourself a favor and just don't go there!

Otherwise, yes, don't expect much of an international intermixing in this game, I sure don't. Kinda sad too, I liked playing with all the JP players in FFXI, there were always so polite. Help them out they toss you a /bow and help you out later if you need it. What have I gotten helping people out in WoW? Half the time they run off if the mob aggros onto me and don't even stay to finish it off. /sigh Guess it should be expected, they did target a bit younger of a crowd than FFXI did.

One of the early arguments for localised servers was to reduce the likelihood of high ping times. The simple fact that New Zealanders and Australians are playing on US based servers blows that argument straight out of the window.
#17 Nov 24 2004 at 2:08 PM Rating: Decent
Just a one thing to you guys, Blizzard has said that after EU launch, they gonna make it available to join other servers.
Like european to US x)

and the source was: http://www.blizzard.co.uk/press/041122.shtml

and for those lazies:

Quote:
For those European gamers still wishing to play with their American friends on the North American servers, and vice versa, Blizzard will provide a means to make this possible after the European launch.

have fun

It is sadly, as one of my guildmate have speculated: to protect the EU market. >_<~

Quote: The regionally specific servers will start with the North American launch. Blizzard is therefore strongly advising European players not to buy the North American version of the game, as access to North American servers will be limited to residents of North America , Australia and New Zealand . Alternatively, players are recommended to pre-order the European version of the game to guarantee a box copy on the day of launch—as well as guaranteed access to the European Final Beta Test.

The point given by my guildmate was, if they allowed EU or OP to join NA servers, then when EU or other localized servers are launched, the playebase would be severely affected. To protect their economy. -_-;;

As pointed out so nicely by KiwiMike, their localized policy contradicts their actions as depicted by high pings experienced from AUS and NZ connecting from afar.

This is sad really. As mentioned, this is my first time facing a MMORPG that is restrictive to foreign players in a localized region. Is it not MMORPG is supposed to be interaction with massive amount of players from all round the world? My guild is drawn to WoW for the pvp content. Blizzard is trying to attract these guilds but in doing so, neglected the fact that international guilds like mine (which I love due to diversity) exist.

Paraphrasing someone from the Blizzard Forum which tickled me: "Hello? This is World of Warcraft, not American Warcraft. Please learn to share and let players or significant others get together." (ROFLMAO)

Keep updating us please on the status and thank you everyone for the kind and supportive replies. Rate-ups are the least I could do.

To Non-linear:

Not to assume but I am just wondering, have you been part of a guild which you mature together for some years? I played some MMORPGs with my 'international guild' and we had a blast together, including raids and sieges.

Coordination, trust and comradeship is built over time, through actions and not recommendations. We have played together for some time and know each other's strengths and weaknesses, which is why we can complement each other well. To suggest that I join another guild just so that I can have a taste of WoW is insulting. --;;

Note this: I am playing this game because I get to play with my guild and have fun together. I am not playing WoW for the sake that it is WoW. There is a difference and everyone has their own set of unique preference for wanting to play a game. WoW being a Blizzard game and having a nice background from WC-1 all the way to WC: FT is an added bonus, but I am not joining it because I am its fanboy. Get it?

As already stated by me, I do not care which server I land on so long as my guildmates are with me. Note that EU players would like to play on their own servers too (except that the launch date is some time behind NA's). The only players that are dying to play on NA servers, even knowing the fact that they are at a slight disadvantage in terms of latency, are folks like me or significant others/friends who are overseas on attachments/studies/commitments. And these players make a very very small number of players. So blaming the lag and queue on them is, in blatant terms, downright ignorant and moronic.

Edit: Oh, and I forgot to remind you, the reason why there IS A EVEN BIGGER population of players rushing to play WoW is the PvP and end-game content that Blizzard is offering.

Check out the various PvP/RP guilds from US and Australia. They chose servers to compete/coorperate together. This is also evident from the HIGH (and maybe overpopulated) population status from the various PvP servers. Hopefully, you will be able to join a nice guild and see what I mean by comradeship.
