My husband and I will be playing this together, need to know if we need to be the same race to be able to play together immediately? Same race starts in same home town, correct? If we don't have to be same race, we just need same server, correct? Thanks in advance for any help. :)

You definitely need to be on the same server if you want to play together at some point. It helps if you are both the same race because then you start in the same town.

However, if you're of different races, you'll have to play separately for several levels. Then you can both meet at a point somewhere else. I'm not sure how transportation works in this game, but I'm assuming that you'll have to run to towns on foot for at least the first 20 levels.

Well, if you're different races, (of the same faction) you shouldn't be afar for too long. When I played a Dwarf in OB I was at IronForge around level 10, which didn't take too long at all to get to, and I believe my friend took a gryphon there to Stormwind, the Human town. So, you shouldn't have too long of a wait at all, just the first few levels. :)

Me and a friend of mine are doing the same thing. He's playing undead and I'm playing tauren. We want to play together from lev 1. So just for fun we wanted to see if we could run an undead lev 1 to the tauren starting area. Took us about 45 mins but we got there in one peice without any deaths. Once there he was able to do all of the tauren quests up through thunderbluff. Didn't get any further because OB ended. So when we get the game today I'll be doing the opposite and running my tauren to the undead area ^_^ . Only problem I may have there is finding a hunter trainer, though I can always run to another town to do that.

*Clarification if you didnt understand above post* Undead start on the other contanant then the other horde races and the Night Elves start on the other continant from the alliance races.

Actually undead are a run on the path away from taking the zep to org, its the taurens that take a while to get to everyone else.

I have thought about this alot and ran the pathes a few times so here ya go.

1) Must be on same server.
2) Must both be horde or both be alliance.
3) Night elves are far & away the most isolated. You will likely die trying to get a low level night elf from their island to the dwarf lands.
4) Dwarf/Gnome and troll/orc share starting areas.
5) Human & dwarf capitals are connected by a tram, very easy to get between them.
6) Undead very easy to get to troll/orc land, a bit of a run to get to taurens but still safe.

You will not find a hunter trainer or shaman trainer in UD lands, you have to go to orgimmar to train. You also will not get any hunter specific quest items from UD lands (bows and such). Same thing if they run a priest/mage/warlock to tauren lands and do the quests-- they will receive no cloth armor for rewards.

Good luck!
