Why do most think people coming from WoW are "1337 newbFollow

This is a rant, rate me down if you feel like it, i just need to say a few things...

http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=16968&topic=17675424

just one of the many posts on all the message boards labeling people going to wow as "dunes noobs" and "impatient people". I represent a majority of the people that left FFXI for Wow; people that are either tired of constant exp grinding, or constant farming.

I wouldn't call myself impatient, i have waited 3-4 hours for a party, only to log off in disgust. I had a good reputation, I ate food, I have good gear(not the best, but far from the worst). I don't usually get an attitude in parties, unless I am provoked to. FFXI's time sinks was too much for me.

I am 100% sure we will get the "I R 1337" people in the game, that is a given. I also believe we will get people that was well, established individuals on their servers. Saying lines like "I am glad WoW is live, less newbs to deal with ^^" is just ignorant, and misinforming others that might be thinking of trying WoW out not to even bother.

/endrent, commense the rate downs

Actually that attitude has died out from what I have seen as of late. Even more so since more high level players have been leaving FFXI. I have seen a good amount of players ranging from 50-72 leaving FFXI because it was not as much fun to them anymore for many and various reasons.

Though I will admit there were ALOT of people in the begining hoping that all the people going to WoW would be the people they hate so much.

It's the classic defense mechanism to say "I'm glad people are leaving, less newbs for us," when people are defecting from games. What's easier than lauding your leetness over people who aren't going to be around to defend themselves? As if someone not liking the intense grinding/farming suck-my-life-away time-sink is some mortal sin, and those that stay behind are superior to those who don't. Most of the time you spend in FFXI is not fun, in my opinion. If someone likes it, good for them, but it hardly makes them a better person for doing so. "Toughing it out" inside a video game is about the most pointless thing I can imagine. It's a game; it should be fun.

When leaving a game becomes tantamount to committing treason against your country, it's time to re-think the way the games you play are mentally affecting you. You're right, people shouldn't be so misleading, but it is the gamefaqs board you're talking about - so we kind of know what to expect from that crowd. Gamefaqs is near battle.net on the ladder of forum standards and intelligent discourse. Hell, I might go so far as to say it's lower on that ladder than battle.net.

I know that GameFAQS isn't all that great, but most other FFXI boards aren't THAT much better.

KillingIfrit just seems like a nest for HNMLSs to declair war with each other (especially Fairy Server).

FFXI Allahkazams FFXI forum is...well you know...

IGN forums as a whole is a crapfest.

There are some people on GameFAQS that sound like they wasn't dropped on their head at birth...

I think battle.net is also part of the reason why alot of ffxi players think that people who switch to WoW are "noobs" Blizzards free-access Battle.net allowed for too many players to overspeak their minds without restrictions causing the swearing flaming hate and eventualy leading to griefers, In my opinion. Being an ffxi player myself, (convert) i think that the natural addiction that comes from games leads them to defend their own gaming community. Most likely however they have never played WoW :)

Derox - Battle.net has nothing to do with World of Warcraft at all. You're safe. ;)
