IMPORTANT: Servers picked for us based on location?Follow

#1 Nov 22 2004 at 7:20 PM Rating: Decent
Someone said Blizz came up with the bright idea of having people assigned to servers based on their location within the US. This means that people who have started guilds in the beta potentially won't be able to hook up at retail. Is this true?

thanks

Highly doubtful. The open beta client just recommended servers to you, but didn't force you to play on them.

I believe that they're setting up the servers in "East Coast," "Central," and "Pacific" timezones, but that you can choose any of those servers.

It will recommend servers for you based on your location, but when you get to the character list screen just look at the top where it says "change realm" and then you can pick any server you want. I think there might've been a way to just tell it that you want to pick one yourself without it recommending one, but I'm not sure...either way you can definitely pick your server (because as far as I know they're keeping basically the same policy as they did in beta, as long as you're in NA, NZ, or AUS).

I believe that's just a rumor.

You can check it out for yourself here ^^.

You missed a zone, but I can't recall the name of it, haha. They list servers based on the 4 zones.

Hmm this question is sortof related so I'm gonna go ahead and post it here.. so not to clutter the forum with endles posts ;)

i live in sweden and we aint gonna see WoW here untill early february... Now u can all understand how Incredebly (Insert bad words of choice here...) angry this makes me. So question: Is it possible for me to by the american release and start playing on those servers? Or are there some sort of blocking in place forcing me to play the european ones?

There isn't any blocking in the software, but when you try to create an account, it'll try to block you if you don't use a US address.

you will first need a US game (so have it shipped or whatever)

Then, you will need a credit card with a US billing address. If you know someone in the US that can help you out, contact them.

You can pay by Paypal I believe, and also game cards. But you do need an address registered to your account to count as a billing address.
