You forgot:

10/15/95 Gapifupi buys Warcraft II and falls in love with Blizzard Entertainment.

Lol.

Thanks for the timeline. It's good to look back at how far this genre has come and exciting to look forward to what will be a great game.

10 more hours to wait!

You also missed "The Realm" that was originally made by Sierra in 95 or 96 and later sold to Codemasters. The Realm was the very first MMORPG and it is still running, check it out: link=http://www.realmserver.com

I believe Meridian 59 was the original....

THen you have the true pioneers of the genre, the MUDs (Mirkwood, MajorMUD, LORD, TeleArena etc.)

You guys are right - there were a million little MMO remnants before UO ... but I would still say that UO grandfathered the Genre - with EQ being the next major influence.

Of course - that's just my limited take... I played some text game on Compuserve way back when ... but to me it's not really the same.

I have been with good ol' Blizzard since Diablo (original) was the hottiest thing around. It actually was the first online game I played. I can still remeber the anticipation when I would go into player attack mode and just start hacking away for ears.... Was a wonderful life.

To date I have played every game that Blizzard has produced, including beta testing WoW.

Ten years... that's not just a long time in the computer gaming industry.

That's a legacy.
