Well, after a lot of research im almost ready to switch to WoW. BUT i want to make sure i can!

First: My computer is a laptop, Inspiron | 1150 by dell, and is a 2004 model, with an intel celeron processer. I dont know a thing about graphic crads sound cards (if those exist) etc etc. I use wireless cable internet. Can WoW run efficiently on my computer?

second: I REALLY want PvP. I played diablo2, and that rush you get when dueling, its just amazing, and the raid pvp!! OMFGZNFINK11!!!!one!!!eleven!!1! (excuse the outburst, lol but it just seems AWESOME!) BUT i don't really want to be randomly attacked by a party of 6 horde or alliance memebers while im walking around, so my question isss: If i choose the limited PvP server are there still Pvp raids often? and do most people engage in pvp?

third: Is it a dollar for every character made? lol Im sure i cna find the answer, but i didnt think of this till i was posting.

fourth: can i make a charector on a PVP server AND on a non pvp server, or do they have to be on the same one?

fifth: I want to be a rouge whats the best class? (JK JK i did read the stickies, dont rate me down and btw i think im trying gnome, cause taru were too damned cute ^_^)

sixth: Cost per month?

thats about it, if i think of more ill make a post. My main concern is questions 1 and 2

1) If you can play FFXI without any problems, then you can play Wow.

2) There is some limited PvP on the PvE server. WoW is implementing an honor system that will (hopefully) limit the amount of ganking on the PvP server. Check out www.worldofwarcraft.com for more information.

3) It's one fee. It's not like FFXI where you have to pay an extra dollar for each character. You get up to 10 characters per server up to a maximum of 50.

4) You can make characters on all the servers if you wanted. The only condition is that you cannot have an Alliance and a Horde character on the same PvP server. This is to prevent someone from logging onto the Horde character to get information on a planned raid on Alliance lands.

5) Smiley: grin Absolutely, totally, opinion on what is the best class.

6) 14.99 a month
if you buy a 3 month subscription it's 13.99
6 month subscription is 12.99

check out www.worldofwarcraft.com, it's got a ton of information and can answer alot of questions.

1. Go to Start>Run>dxdiag and tell us what your video card, RAM, and Processor speed are.(Edit: Nevermind you already posted them. You can run it fine.)

2. On PvP servers, you WILL be getting attacked. That's one of the main points of them.

3. No it isn't.

4. They can be on different servers.

6. $14.95 for one month, $13.95 for 2 months, $12.95 for 6 months. All in USD.

What's the exact specs of your laptop? Like processor speed, video card, RAM. www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/faq/technology.html <-Check for system requirements.

People participate in PvP every now and then on non PvP servers. I never played on a PvP server, but there would possibly be more raids on a PvP server. There's also a lot of ganking on PvP servers, but Blizzard plans to counter that with PvP honor system.

There isn't any extra fee for characters.

You can make up to 10 characters on any server, and up to 50 character total per account. However, you might only be able to create characters of the same faction (Alliance or Horde) on PvP servers. This is to prevent spying.

Cost per month is $14.99. There are plans to pay with reduced cost. If you pay for 3 months at once, they are $13.99 per month. 6 months at once is $12.99 per month.

I think the questions are answered, and you don't have to check what your specs are, because if you can run FFXI then you can run WoW (and probably more smoothly than XI).

yes, Rogue is an awesome class.

- you definitely need more RAM, I wouldn't go any lower than 500mb from what I keep hearing. You will be able to run it fine, but the additional RAM wouldn't hurt if you can afford it.

Not at all. The only key I use near the number pad is the num lock key for auto run, and you can change that if necessary.

wow... i can already tell this game will rock! in a ffxi forum ide wait maybe 30 minutes for help, but here the info is pouring in.

2) it depends where you go, in normal or RP servers you can type /pvp and youll be able to be attacked by members of the opposeing faction for like 10 mins or so. once its on though its on till the time runs out, so you cant flag on, kill someone and flag off.
if you want pvp but dont want to get ganked probaly play a normal server. in the OB the normal servers were raiding the horde/alliance lands all the time. was very fun to do.

i have NO idea how it will be in retail though.. as the end of OB makes people crazy.. and dance nekkid <.< .. >.>

I think movement will be easy enough on a laptop, and if you're used to using the mouse on a laptop then I doubt you'll ever have problems with it. Also, if you don't have the correct DirectX installed, then you can install it off of the game disc. All games provide the required DirectX...well all Blizzard games do, some other sucky companies might not. ;)

Hmm, if he can play Guild Wars beta, he can play WoW.

As for the ram issue, I agree that ram will be nice but not really needed if he just wants to hop on for now. The biggest thing ram will be needed for will be pvp town raids since upwards to 100+ players tend to attend those events.

You should be able to run wow fine as long as your graphics card is a real 3d card. Keep in mind though you won't be able to play at max settings.

Laptop keyboard is fine, I always play Comp games on my laptop and I actually prefer the smaller keyboard. It's smaller and I can type a lot faster. Anyways, I played a year of FFXI with a laptop keyboard and played in the WoW beta with it too. Never had any problems.

Good luck and hope you have a lot of fun!

One last question heh. How do i check if i have a 3D graphics thing? I played guildwars, but it seemed kinda choppy even with no other players near me. Will i be stuck (lagging) so badly that i cannot play if several players are by me?

Ok so that was 2 questions, but w/e :p

Right click on the desktop, select, select properties, then select the settings tab. Click on the advanced button and one of the tabs at the top should be for your Graphics card.

A easy way to see what card you have is right click your desktop > properties > settings. Under the pic of a monitor, it'll show your card's name.

As for video cards, if you plan to replace it that is, a 64 mb card is a good start while a 128 is even better (much better, if ya ask me :) My 128 plays Doom 3 on high settings with some slowdown). If you want the good stuff, look into Nvidia's new high end video cards. They can play mostly all games at high settings for a easy 200 bucks. I wish I waited for that deal to happen ;_;

Hey Derox,

I checked out your laptop on dell. Though its a great system it does not however have a strong graphics card. The one they had listed was an Intel integrated extreme graphics card with 64 MB of shared memory.

It MAY be able to run it, though it will be rough.
Anyone else have or know of a similar setup?

by rough do you mean the graphics will suffer? because the graphics are not THAT important to me, but game play is. Will I suffer lag/disconects from a graphics card being weak?

sorry i keep asking q's, lol i just don't want to start like 50 threads each asking only 1.

With the amount of RAM that you have you should be ok with lag unless of course you are in a 100+ person battle like was said earlier...

the minimum requirement for RAM is said to be 256, so as long you keep the graphics settings down like turning off shadows and what not you should be ok
#23 Nov 22 2004 at 8:20 AM Rating: Decent
i tihnk if yo can play ffxi you can play Wow. i played both nad to me it seems that WoW requires alot less cpu/video card power to play well...

#24 Nov 22 2004 at 11:57 AM Rating: Decent
i have that video card, it ran fine for me during the open beta, no real hiccups, it get's choppy for a few seconds when you entered a big city but it went away.

FFXI has the same requirements as WoW, except on FFXI you only have to have 128mb RAM instead of 256mb...so if you can run FFXI and you have 256mb or more RAM you can run WoW. From my experience, though, WoW lagged a lot less than XI (after they fixed the loot lag problems that is). Although, in large-scale battles the lag did catch up with me, but that's to be expected of anyone in such a large battle. ;)

Ya, that's what I meant, you'll have to keep your graphics settings real low. Though from Huntme's reply you should be able to play so that's cool.

That's what I figured at first too but then he said he played it on the PS2. I always forget that FFXI is out on the ps2 also. You'd think I'd remember since it was designed for the ps2 and that whole ps2 rush the servers got.
