the penalty in pvpFollow

#1 Nov 21 2004 at 12:48 PM Rating: Decent
being a pvp adicted player, while i played WOW open beta i noticed that there is no real penalty when u r killed by an oposing faction memeber, except the time to get back ur corpse and a little bit of dignity
the gain is null too ... except for a little bit of pride

i heard something about an Honor System which will grant honor point when u kill a player of equal or higher lvl and take honor points when u kill much lower lvl character. There was something about a "protector of the race" player who will be granted extras for being with highest honor from his race ( some portal to capital i heard ). (the last info's just rumors, so i might misguide u)

most mmorpgs are like a big single player (PvE) and there's no joy in interacting with other players except for the social aspect of it ... and in some, maybe a good trade system ... where everybody kill monsters to take loot or craft items and exchange amongst them to get stronger and kill better monsters etc. etc.

in ultima (the best pvp oriented mmorpg i played so far) the loot was enabled (which is probably a little too harsh), and one of the best things u get from the oponent - his head

since looting in my opinion will have big disadvantages
why not just take their heads, or some mark that u killed someone...

what do u think about penalty and gains in pvp
and is there anything else to fight for in the game ... like land ... and what if one of the faction holds control over that land ...

in my opinion a purpose is much needed when it comes to pvp

You already stated the purpose of PvP, to garner honour points. High levels of honour will be required to unlock the ability to buy certain very powerful items from certain vendors. As well, the instant teleport to your home city can be very useful if you're not a Mage...

In battlegrounds, you will be fighting enemies and actually gaining honour slaughtering their NPCs. When you kill off a certain NPC (a leader basically) in the enemy town, the town is razed and everyone gets a big boost of honour. Later on they plan to add siege engines, so you will have to utterly destroy the town and its buildings before you win.

I don't see how much more of a goal for PvP you can get, next to actually owning land.

The only problem I can see w/ taking someone's head is that you'll quickly run out of inventory space :)

I know the honor system will be enabled. They will also be inputting "Battlegrounds" which is some PvP environment. As of now, I doubt anyone knows much about anything though....they're keeping the details on the down-low.

yeah ... my info was not 100% so i asked if someone knew for sure

raize the city, this was new to me ... and it sounds niiccceee :)

to run out of room ... lol this would be niiccceee too

as for the gnome head stew ... i like eating little gnomes lol

i was not really asking which is the best char for pvp ... i made my choise - assassin/Subtle rogue, it fits my style ... and i think most of the clases if not all can be best for someone in pvp if played well in groups or 1vs1/2

It would be really cool if they let you take the heads but treated it as a non-inventory item, like in City of Heroes's badge system. You just collect them to look at and display to others when they check you. You can't trade sell or get rid of them. It would be cool to see something like this but have it be players' heads instead of badges!!

Most MMOs actually arent single player as you put it at all. some of the main staples of the MMO society are largely based on grouping and interacting within a web of players.

Having the head of the player you killed does nothing more than simply just allow you to do what you were doing anyway, a feal of satisfaction of killing a player. Even if you were to say flaunt the head, you would be shunned by the community for being an idiot about it. So really owning a peice of an oposing player really does nothing more than what you recieve for killing the player in the first place.

Personally I dont really need a reward for PvP. simply having a battle of massive scales is reward enough for me, but I guess a lot of people out there want a cookie for every little thing they do.

Well i like the badge idea not so much the head thing so that if people WANTED to see who you killed they could, would be a nice lil thing. And yes everyone wants their cookie...i dont see you doing quests for no exp/money/loot ;)

hey VampyreKnight
... noo need insulting people ... it was just a suggestion ...
and yeah in ultima heads could be taken ... so u do raelly think that the guys who made ultima are creeps or idiots ... no ... they just made it more intereting for headhunters ...

imagine another player insulted or killed by an oposing faction member ... and gives a huge reward for the first one who brings the killers head ... :) ... i ve been there ... the killer becomes hunted like a dog

naah ... if u r a pacifist let it be ... dont call the other idiots ... explain and reason urself

i didnt mean to sugest to enable getting someone's head ... i just gave an example ... the guys just took it for a laugh

as for the groups ... yeah, they are a must ... i dont doubt that

Yeah, you think no one ever took the heads of one's enemies in medieval times, for example?

William Wallace wore a guys skin for a belt!!?!?!

Taking the heads would only add depth for RPers, especially on the horde side!

umm, you do know that fun is a cookie right? why do you play any game? because its fun. I have fun attacking towns, defending towns, and attacking/being attacked while on the hunt. Why would you even PvP if it wasnt fun. You don't need a badge saying how bad you "pwned" someone to have fun, you have it to show off.

Vamp never did call anyone an idiot, though s/he did make a good point about people wanting to be rewarded for something that is basically a reward for playing. Besides, from a pvp stand point, you gain honor if you kill honorably and dishonor if you choose to gank lowbies. Keeps everybody in place and gives something to work for pvp wise.

Yes its fun but it doesnt mean it cant be improved...im sorry if some people wanting trophies offends you so much. Seriously if it would make some people happier its worth the lil bit of programming adding an item like that would take. And sometimes i like to have something to stare at after i kill the person that hunted/griefed me for such and such time <---big reason i want it.
What about when houses come out? i would personally like to have heads hanging off my walls for flavor...i am gonna be a troll after all.
