Questions about Professions. Supports.. etc..Follow

#1 Nov 21 2004 at 10:55 AM Rating: Decent
Most of what I am going to talk about comes from the following site:

www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/professions

You can have two Primary Professions and any/all secondary professions.

Concerning the two Primary professions that someone chooses, there are some Primary professions that support other Primary professions... like Skinning/Leatherworking, Herbalism/Alchemy, Mining/Blacksmithing or Mining/Engineering.. etc...

Would the main reason to choose a Primary Profession with another Primary profession that supports it... be that you could actually gather your own items to synth? And if you choosed to not have a Supported Primary (ie: Alchemy/Skinning) you would have to buy your synthing items from other players?

Does having professions that support each other give any sort of bonuses OTHER than being able to gather your own items to synth?

Would having two primaries that dont support each other hinder you, or are there NPCs/stores (or maybe even other players) that sell the items needed to synth each craft?

Sometimes having a primary to support another primary, such a mining/smithing helps a lot. I was always able to gather my own items to create what I needed. Made it a lot cheaper. There are some people, even in my own guild, that had two primaries that were just gathering skills. Such as Mining/Skinning. This is a money magnet!

Since some players don't chose those primaries to help their second primary, they need to buy their materials, since you have all the materials you're continually having them on the auction house and selling for nice coin and keeping your pockets nice and fat.

They are there to support your other main. Leatherworking can be quite difficult without skinning. You would have to find someone to supply you with all your leather. I've found most of the crafting skills I've taken always require a component you can't buy at a vendor.

If you don't think that will be a problem for you, then try two professions that don't support each other. Might find a guild who's set up to help out with that kind of thing. It would be helpful to have a set person you get all your stuff from.

Hope that helps.

It's possible to have two professions that don't support each other, but people do it so little that Skinners don't really sell thier items, but I bet you could do it if you really wanted.

Those are pretty much the only tradeskills people go as far as primaries, you could try something different though :)

When all of your ingredients come out of the Auction Hall, where they charge you an arm and a leg for them, I'm sure you will be switching out one of your professions for a gathering one in a hurry.

It is, however, possible to make a dual production profession build if you have a guild to supply you with a lot of raw materials.

There's another way to look at it tho. Yes it will cost you to buy stuff to skill up but when you are done you have maxxed 2 professions and since most high end items take day's to cool down then you are effectively doubling your ability to produce high end items. You can make a high end blacksmithing item and also a high end leatherworking item for example and then wait for the cooldown on both. If you took up a spot on a collection skill you could only be making one item. I hope I was clear on that.

So yes the initial investment would be high the final benefit would be worth it.
