50$ and you only have 10 days free thats suck bad.

I remember that EQ cost me 30$ with a 1 mounth and same for DAoC
Same for CoH.

They should have at least gave us 1 mounth like every other mmrpg

And I hope they wont do like EQ an d release too muich expension. Thats 1 of the reason I quited EQ I was tired to pay montly fee and buy xpack I didn't had the 2 last one.

50 bucks is really the standard for games these days, even games that absolutely suck cost 50 bucks. Nothin we can really do about an industry standard. Plus blizzard has spent a lot of money making this game, they deserve some coin.

Yes see I couldn't remember which game I wanted to say sucked but still cost 50 bucks, example FFXI! played it for three weeks after the american launch on the PC and went back to EQ. People still pay for that, cmon!

She is right lol, you do get 1 month to play with both versions. You probably are getting confused with the 10 day guest pass that comes with the collecters edition. And yes 50$ has been the standard MMORPG price, EQ and early ones were cheaper but all the recent MMOs are 50$

Most games these days -and- their expansions cost a hefty 50$ and the monthly fees are anywhere from $12-$15. WoW did such an amazing job on this game, I won't be complaining about it. Kudos to Blizzard on this, they deserve it.

If you think about it EQ cost more then WoW because of the expansions, EQ was FAR less complete on release, it was like 2 expansions later that it equaled WoW. Yes i liked EQ im not flaming it, im just stating the facts, i had loads of fun in EQ and played it for over a year.

This thread should be renamed, "I have a penchant for whining about things I'm ignorant about."

Seriously, this is the best "complaint" you could come up with?

bad grammer in that latest title, but I concur with that idea since its a blatent whine about money I might not have thread. Hey I'm there with ya, 50 bucks is pretty significant with my rent/car payments, along with utilities, but i'm still dishing out the 65.99 this month to get in the game :)

Most games that cost $30 to $50 that aren't MMORPG style, get finished to end game in what 2, 3 weeks?

This is a steal!
#11 Nov 21 2004 at 10:51 AM Rating: Decent
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! i have to pay 50$ for a game with a monthly fee WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

No one's forcing you to buy the game. If you think 49.99 is too much then the solution is simple. Don't buy it.

Ok, a couple responses to things said.

1. WoW is not as complete as EQ was after velious and kunark. EQ was twice as big as WoW at that time. I'm a Blizz fan boy, but I'm not going to let someone lie about the game :x

2. (as previously stated) you get a month free, not 10 days

3. EQ 2 Pricetag : 50, FFXI Pricetag : 50(100 if you got PS2). Point - Nextgen MMORPGS are 50 dollars and 13.95-14.95 a month afterwards. Get over it.

Welcome to online gaming.

If you dont like paying for the upkeep of the servers, etc... then play for the free month and cancel your account, and see how far you get.

You would actually buy a regular PC/console game for $50 and finish it within a month, so in that regard paying $50 for WoW and playing it for a month isnt a bad price.

If you are going to gripe about something at least pick something worthwhile to gripe about... like... um... "There are 1098 sesame seeds on my hamburger bun.. there are supposed to be 1100... Let's boycott the fast food place because I didnt get two more seeds!!"

You do get one month free.

$14.99 per month, and $50 dollars for the game, is pretty much equal to what Everquest cost in the dollars of 5 years ago. Even if you started a new job at Burger King today, having had the same back then, the increase would be about equal.

To top that off, even Everquest is $12.95 a month now. Even they had to change their price to afford improving the game outside of expansions. So if EQ even had to change their price to $12.95 a couple years back or so, how much more likely is it that a bran new game is $14.99?

I always knew that WoW would cost that much. It is just simple logic. It has to cost that much.

Seriously if u play for i think it was 3 months (been about 5 years sence idid this math so uhm do it for yourself later :P) the cost per hour of an MMO is insanely low compared to going to the movies or even a snowboard pass up here (500 bucks season pass? i dont think so) it equals out to about 25 cents an hour if u play 3 or 4 hours a day for a few months...movies cost 3 bucks and hour <---dont whine!

The point is its the best cost per hour of entertainment u can get =)

The $50.00 cost of a game as well as the monthly fee are as stated before this standard nowadays. Whether or not the fee is justified, we shall never know, as we do not know the precise cost of maintaining a slew of massively multiplayer online role playing game servers — but bare in mind that they will attempt to make money any way they can, as everything is for business nowadays. I just hope they don't half-*** an expansion pack like SQUARE-ENIX's latest little attempt at ******** us over: Chains of Promathia.

Let us just hope the 'standard price' doesn't raise anymore.

If the game is bad enough that you think about the price then the developers have failed or the person is just a chronic whiner. I have found that with games i really enjoy price matters not, if you are so bored with the game that you complain about price then its probably not for you =p.

$50, and 30 Days free. That and you save money in the long run by not buying 8 games that cost $50.

Funny you should mention that, cause you should get your facts straight. EQ, and DAoC cost $40 when they first came out if I remember right. Also CoH cost $40 right now.

The only MMORPG that has come out below $40 that I know of is AC2 which came out at $20.

When I consider how much time I've put into FF over the past year, the money I spent on buying and playing the game is nothing. That game brought me so many hours of fun. And when you consider how much you spend renting movies or going out....the game cost is well worth it.

When I first heard about UO, many many moons ago, I refused to play it because I felt it was wrong to keep charging people for a game they’d already bought. But eventually a friend talked me into trying it and that’s when I discovered just how different a MMORPG is from a stand alone computer game. And I’ve been hook for the past five years or so.

I find it fairly simply to justify the payments. If I went to a single movie and bought a drink and some popcorn it’d run me about $15. And that’s for 2 hours of entertainment. With a WoW I’ll be paying $15 for over 160 hours of entertainment. In my book that’s not such a bad deal. But we must each make that decision for ourselves.

Edit: Darn typos.

The 10 days free is a guest pass for one of your friend if you buy the Collector's edition.

And it's not "outragous". Expect that you will become an hermit unless you have a wife and/or children (it's always like that with MMORPG) and you will not go outside, unless for going to the grocery store. (WoW could be an exception, because it was designed for casual gamers)

If you are a teenager, you have to babysit like one or two time a month....it's not bad.

In fact, all of those games cost 50 bucks at release. If you want to wait a couple months to pick up WoW I'm sure it will come down to the 30 dollar range. Somehow though I think we'll see you at release.

Uhm... First of all, maybe you should invest the money you're not paying out to WoW to go to school and take an english class and learn some basic grammar. I am so tired of hearing people like you whine about how every cool game that comes out isn't GIVEN to you for free "Flame on!"

First of all, EQ - the original - never cost 30 bucks. Whatever you're smoking, you need to share. Secondly, yes, the expansions were about 29.99 or so in stores but think about this... there were what? Eight expansions? At 29.99 a piece, that's $239.92 BEFORE taxes. Also, after EQ had been out for three years or so, SOE decided to start bundling the game and the first two expansions as the "Classic triology" for 39.99 - I know because I got back into the game at that time and paid $125.00 or so to buy all the expansions up to PoP for myself to play - 250 total for both me and my hubby to play.

Next, let's discuss why it costs 49.99 to purchase a new game like WoW. Let's see, we've got their website and forums, which they post updates on and maintain for their customers - where they answer questions and post new material for you to read free of charge. Then we've got the YEARS of research, development, coding, and testing the game went through BEFORE the game went into Beta. Next we have Closed Beta, Stress Tests, Open Beta, advertising, marketing, packaging, printing (manuals, game boxes, CD's, etc) and distribution of the game to all the retailers across the US to include Alaska and Hawaii (you think it's cheap to send items there?). Let's not even discuss how much foreign distribution is going to cost them with customs, duties, tarriffs and so on.

Finally, let's discuss the monthly fee you're so worked up about.... there are 720 hours in a 30 day month, so at 14.95, you're paying TWO CENTS an hour to play the game. That's pretty darn cheap if you ask me, since there are some of us out here who do play the game 12+ hours on certain given days. Oh and by the way, that 14.95 a month pays for server upkeep, upgrades and personnel to be on hand to help people get unstuck or with technical issues. Labor doesn't come cheap you know.

So the next time you get something stuck in your craw and decide that it's unfair for Blizzard to charge you money to play the game that cost them millions, if not billions of dollars to develop for you to enjoy, please do a little thinking first and be a little more thankful to the people who have sacrificed years of their lives to bring WoW and games like it to your ungrateful little self. Welcome to Capitalism and the real world, sweetheart.

"Flame off!"
