Graphics - 9

At first glance, when i saw my brother playing, it looked a little cartoony. But within minutes i was seeing that its just the style of the game. After playing WoW myself, it fits perfectly. Only misses out on a 10 because i still feel City of Heroes holds that particular crown by a noticeable margin... which is unfortunately about the only good thing CoH has going for it imho.

Gameplay - 9

Entertaining, fast paced gameplay. Mana/HP recovers quickly. THe quests provide a focus point and do a good job of shepherding you to new areas. I didnt really care to read the quest stories beyond where i needed to go, thats not really very interesting for me, but they still offered me value in terms of reward items (which were actually worthwhile) and showing me around the world.

Sound - 10

Ha! Unlike the other posters, i LOVED the sound. I thought the voice acting throughout was great. Not too much, and not annoying at all. Although, i did only try the orc, tauran, and undead lands. Personally, i dont care for music at all, its usually the first thing i turn off in any MMORPG, so i didnt miss it. The various sound effects were nice too, suitable sounds, but not so bold to become annoying after 5 minutes of play.

Interface and Control - 7

It was adequete, without being outstanding. I suppose it should receive a higher grade because it was very intuitive, but then, it was pretty standard stuff and i'd expect any 'vanilla' MMORPG interface and control scheme to be the same.

Fun Factor - 10

It has the ability to keep you playing. 'Just one more mob!' and 'I'll just finish this quest, then go to bed' (when you haven't even clicked the yellow '!' yet...) are common phrases you'll use. It has fantastic soloability... granted i never leveled past 10 personally since i had to borrow time off my brother, since it was his OB account, but still it was faster and less of a grind than any other MMORPG i've yet played... and i've played a lot. I got to play my own character as a Shaman (will probably be my retail first character) and a Hunter, and both felt very soloable, and from talking with higher levels of those classes, continued to be later on. I also tried my brother's rogue, and was surprised to find him a very effective soloer as well, and more than that, actually quite a fun soloer with many things to do.

Overall, it simply had the feeling that you could jump on and play... and actually progress in the game. The only moment of even slight frustration i had was where i had just used my hearthstone to return to town from a quest, then received a follow-up quest back to the same cave, and i knew i'd have to run back since the hearthstone wouldnt be ready to port back. Which is really pretty damn minor, especially since many games dont even have the option in the first place.

But most importantly for me (i played Anarchy Online on the day of release... yikes!) is that it is READY. The game played beautifully. It felt like a finished product, aside from early in OB with the item looting lag, which was cleared up. There felt like plenty to do and see. I must say, i wasnt even that interested in WoW. I wasnt following it. Heck, if my bro hadnt got into OB and given me a chance to try it, it probably would have been months till i decided to give it a shot. But i did play, and Blizzard have EARNED my praise and trust. I feel 100% confident that on Nov 23 i'll be able to plunk down my cash for WoW and expect to be playing immediately WITHOUT the hair-pulling frustration that often accompanies an MMORPG launch. And plunk down my cash i most certainly will.

i played ffxi for a year, i played open beta WoW for about a week.
i had more fun in four hours than i ever had in weeks of time playing FFXI.
I miss my linkshell in FF, and i don't look forward to the 1337 /1 talk... but i'll deal.

The graphics are everything i expect from blizzard and more. The fact that there aren't ANY ZONE LINES makes me smile whenever i think about it. Every quest i've done so far was fun, and the rewards on the multiple "Bring me X drop from X mob in this area" quests make them worthwhile too.

Crafting is so fun and easy it's almost not fair. PvP is fun AND easy, and the only problem is with people 3+ lvls higher than you are. I don't get the feeling that i waste 3 hrs of my life every time i die like i did with FFXI, i'm not afraid to go exploring, i'm absolutely not worried about IGE farming moneys.

My buddy puts it great when he says "This game does everything right"

Want my advice? Play WoW. I don't care about your background, if you've ever played an rpg, play this. The only people i think might not like this game are the aimbot CS players, and i guess maybe them people and their foosball games. :D

Final comments: This is the best MMORPG that I ahve seen to date...and I ahve not experienced FFXI, just as a disclaimer.

Over all the fun factor is the real clincher on this game. Even were the graphics, sound and interface rated less...the actual game play and fun factor make this a terrific game.

Well worth the cash outlay for the game, the subscription and the future expansions...and of course, the time that will be spent in game.

Cancel your current subscriptions to MMORPGs, give away all of the gear on your FFXI or EQ toons and hold on tight until Tuesday!

I pretty much agree with everything everyone has said about the game...

This is the first time I've been so bored, let alone waited for a game to be released.

The game is designed both for the casual gamer, and the hardcore one. I don't usually tell people to buy something, but if you love MMO's this is definatly the one to ask for and buy.

Blizz has been great at minimizing polycounts, yet still making the game look amazing. Metzen and Samwise have done amazing jobs designing the maps, landmarks, characters, items, and just everything in general. Any combo of equipment looks cool on characters, unlike FFXI and the awkward period where you wear the bronze harnesses and such which made you look like you were into sadomasochism.

Gameplay: 10

Combat is simple and straightforward. You can disengage and engage with ease (I ******* HATED HOW IN FFXI THE MONSTER WOULD CHASE YOU THE ENTIRE MAP BECAUSE THEY RUN JUST AS FAST!) Jumping is also great because they designed the map so you could actually explore every nook and cranny instead of just running and hoping to find a ramp or gorge to investigate. I love how you can solo instead of rely on utter idiots (people actually seem smarter in this game). The channels system is cool too. CHESTS! I love finding chests. The way they designed it and how they have such cool random items gives me a sense of great elation when I find one and open it. The best part? Dancing. Each race has their own dance, but undead is my favorite. They rock out hard and air guitar and even throw the horns.

Sound: 10
The music score is amazing and so is the voice acting. The /v silly and /v flirt commands are hilarious. Also, I love the Dwarven mortar team dialogue: "Burnin', lootin'! Bombin', shootin'!" and "Take this, ye *******!" The accents are awesome.

Interface and Control: 10
Everything is easy access. Running and looking are easy. Skills... oh man the skills. You don't have to stop fighting and target a character to heal them. You can perform a bunch of things at once and the "Make all" option was a stroke of logic. And again, the jumping. Oh man, the jumping.

Fun Factor: 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Nothing beats this. With all of the gimmicks (fireworks, jokes, famous movie monster cameos and such (Ghamoo-Rah = Gamera)) and dialogue and intertaining quest plots I can't see how anyone would not like this game. Blizzard knows their ****.

Final Comments:
BEST. GAME. EVER.

Graphics: 8.5; i hear a lot of guff about the graphics, but mostly what these people are complaining about isn't that the graphics are poor, but that the art design is a little cartoonish. i acually like the art design, and the graphics are really nice. this isn't a fps, and you shouldn't expect graphics comporable to an fps. i still think the graphics are probably the best for any mmorpg out there, right now.

Interface: 10; i've not played a game that was so intuitively designed and laid out in a long, long time. it was fun just to spend the first fifteen minutes figuring out how to do everything, and what i could do (coming from ffxi i was all like "jump?... i think i will... everywhere i go.). seriously easy learning curve here, but surprisingly rich, and interesting.

Sound: 5.5; i feel like it's not totally fair to rate the sound, as a lot of it, music included, was unfinished as of the end of ob... but that said, what there was was ok, but not really inspired. i wasn't all "ooh, turn that subwoofer up" or whatever.

Gameplay: 9.5 or 10; it's hard to judge gameplay without haveing played more, but i'd say that the game is a blast with most race/class combos up to about 15... i only took to toons past 20. making lvling quest based cuts down on grinding, and even grinding is fun as the chance of scoring a pretty cool item is not half bad. the instances i've played were beautifully laid out and loads of fun.

Fun: whatever you say * infinity; i could see this game pulling a lot of mmorpg newbies in from outher kinds of games and turning them into mature gamers. i see about 10% of the problems in eq and ffxi, and none of the major ones, in WoW.

its sweeeeet.

Gameplay: 10
Sound: 8.5
Interface and control: 9.5
Fun Factor: 10!

Conclusion: What leads me to give such high scores for all the ratings was the total immersion factor i found in WoW. I've played UO, Meridian 59, Lineage 1,2, Shadowbane, EQ1,2, AC, AO, and the one world i found i was most drawn into right off the bat was WoW beta. This started when I created my gnome warlock ran out into the snow, finding all the UI and controls easy to operate straight away, and watched my breath steam in the cold while a rabbit causiously darted around my feet, leaving footprints in the snow.
0-0-Graphics= 8 because while after playing EQ2 the toon look was a bit of a blow to adjust too, all the detail, art, and lol, brightness, grew on me in that i found the graphics to be my favorite to date
Gameplay= 10 see immersion.
Sound= background scores brilliant, combat sounds great but not perfect
UI-- easy, fresh and very in theme
Fun Factor- the theme and uniqueness of each class choice made this game for me.

The graphics were not the best, but they best suited the game in my opinion. It's a fun game, and the game has fun cartoony graphics. Although the graphics may have looked horrible in screen caps, there were a lot of places in the game that were breathtaking. The graphics were just fine!

Gameplay, I gave a 9 because it's not perfect, but pretty close. Most of the quests were very interesting to me, but some were tedious. The grouping could use some work, and a little more balance between the classes could use a second look. The game could also use access to the central AH throughout the world. Or at least in major cities. Other than that, the game is very fun.

The music is awesome. It does get a little quiet sometimes, especially when you are used to battle music like in FFXI. I really have no complaint here.

Interface and control: Here's the thing. It gets very annoying when I have to use the mouse to pitch the view up or down. I tried to use key bindings to do this, but it doesn't seem to work. I like to not be reliant on the mouse, because it makes chatting in the game easier. Example: Use the number pad to move, while using the arrows to pitch the screen so you can see above you, behind you, and below. Also in areas where the camera follows you extremely close, like going up a hill, the camera gets stuck in that position. It's nice to be able to move it with the keyboard instead of the mouse. I honestly hate using the mouse in games. I end up sitting in a weird positions when I'm playing WoW. My right hand is on the mouse, while my left hand is on the arrows (because I'm really not warmed up to using a w s d to move my character. I like using my right hand to move my character, pitch and select, while my left hand is free to hold a cigarette, use macros, hold a drink or what have you.)

I haven't figured out how to edit the UI. I would love to have a double spell bar instead of a single one. Mainly because I probably won't get warmed up to the macros until later, mainly because of having to use the mouse. I'd like to be able to have my most used spells on a double spell bar so I don't have to keep clicking down or up in my spell book.

Just a minor inconvenience, nothing big.

The fun factor is self-explanatory, considering I've already preordered the game, and I'm about to cancel my FFXI subscription.

Lets answer these questions once and for all...

(10 being the best and 1 being the worst)

Graphics: 1-10 I say 8
Gameplay: 1-10 I say 8
Sound: 1-10 I say 9
Interface and control: 1-10 I say 6
Fun Factor: 1-10 I say 8

Final comments:

the graphics are only an 8, not due to lack of being spactacular, but because blizzard used a low poly count on and some rare occasions it shows. Other than that, the actual art is unbelievably good.

the gameplay is giid, though shows some of its diablo heritige. I did not find all of it to my liking. also the excessive PvP balancing lead to some PvE suckiness that I didnt like.

The sound is really good, you will laugh your *** off the first time you see a group of 5 hunters go full auto on a target :)

The interface agian shows its single player roots. It uses a fixed inv slot system but pickup and drop of item is a little old fashioned... this area of the game could have used a lot more work. Also blizzard is leaving interface customization completely to the player base.. I'd hoped for a more moddable interface like EQ uses.

WoW is a fun game to play, some of that is the newness, a lot of it is the quest system, that gives you a reason to play, even when solo (especially when solo i should say)Its also a much faster game than other mmogs. This i like so far, as it makes it much more easy to have alts and not feel like your cheating yourself. Its pretty much expected that late game you will end up with several toons.

i like the game. its a good change of pace from EQ1, and I think ore playable than EQ2, to me EQ2 has too high f system requirements and seems very unpolished and cluttered.

Graphics =>
A resounding 9. Definatly not cutting edge, nothing that would put strain on my middle-of-the-spectrum system, but don't let the lack of sparkle let you down. With landscapes as rich as they are varied, there is much to feast your eye on. The cities are appropriately regionally designed and the world is rich with warcraft Flavor. Don't be looking for reality here, but also trust that the screenshots don't do it justice. If you don't mind a cartoony feel, then you will love it. My biggest complaints regarding video were 1) Character models -> they seemed a bit thin; Much like DAoC & others. EQ did a really nice job of making some wicked looking weapoins and armor, and althogh there is a variety here, when you end up with mixed and matched gear, you more often than not look like a bum then a hero.

Gameplay =>
Again, a solid 9 here. First, lemme describe my notions of 'gameplay.' Class design, class balance, Combat, downtime, Tradeskills and diversity. With some classes that have been driven into the ground (Healer, Tank, Caster and Thief) blizzard has added a bit of a new aspect to them There are new class takes altogether (Shaman, Druid) and everything is solidly designed. With no one class becoming overwhelmingly powerful, even in beta stages (yes they all go through small valleys and crests, but that is to be expected unless everyone were to play the same class - and even then, classes don't become obsolete), the classes are quite well balanced. Combat, even for historically boring classes, is fast-paced and occupying, downtime is short, tradeskills are useful, and diversity is present in the effects of talent trees. Although my biggest complaint has to be the lack of viability for 'creative' class builds, occassionally (hunters anyone?) there is still some diversity.

Sound => 9
Honestly, I think this, although one of the best parts of the game, is the one I care least about. Why? More often then not, I am listening to my own tunes. I am glad there is no combat music; I turned off music in EQ for that reason. With going in and out of combat so frequently, it would be more irritating then inspiring. What sound there is is creative (voice-overs), mood-setting (theme music). and appropriate (environmental sounds)

Interface/Control => 8
When moving to a system with many skills for nearly every chracter, sometimes the hotbar got cramped and hotbar switching, even in normal PvE combay became a necessity. Other then that, and pet control, which was sometimes annoying with the ctrl+number, the controls are easy to use and quick to pick up. Pretty standard in mmo's these days though.

Fun-factor => 10
Fun-factor consists of plot, quest relavence, method of leveling and dungeons (pvp falls here too, but that isn't a deciding factor for me, so I am not letting it affect my score here either). The fact that I evenmention plot is a good thing, so often in mmo's there is a distinct lack of one, or in the event there is one, I tend to want to skip past it to get my reward. Although that is true with some quests in WoW, many others have me wanting to complete them just as much for the exp and 45 sp at the end as for the conclusion to the story at the end. Obviously, this tells well of the quest relavence. Leveling is nicely set-up progression-wise, it becomes harder at a steady, acceptable pace and the effects of hell levels are more from lack of appropriate quests atr that level then from mathematics. I have yet to go grind stuff just for xp. The only time I am killing things is for tradeskill supplies, a quest, or an instanced dungeon. VERY GOOD HERE. Dungeons, along with previously mentioned leveling, are phenominal. Remember in EQ when you got to go to sebilis for the first time, it was quite an experience; a hard dungeon with good drops and a methodology behind it. LDoN was similarly fun at first, until you realized each instance was the same thing, over and over. No matter if you were 30 or 65 the only difference was the diificulty of the mobs. Not so in WoW. In fact, when you get to do shadowfang keep for the first time, or Wailing caverns, you are having a BLAST doing a hard dungeon with good bosses, etc. And, you are only in your high teens. Not to mention some of the events in the higher dungeons. good work blizzard!

Final Verdict:
I just spent 25 minutes typing out a review that I will prolly never even look at the responses to; I am hooked for sure!

so wait. you mean i was playing OB with problem with soung all this time?

since when i play music will run once and stop and most of the time sound was very strange... like the loud swishing sound in the orc keep in the lakeshire (the place where you go to do the quest, magic orb and the head)

and i tought that lack of music was since it was beta!

plz don't tell me that i missed out!

OMG i had no idea!

-_-;; so mad now...

no idea why I didn't hear the sound and music...

Since I count the "fun factor" as the over-all score of the game as a whole, I'd say that anything that is lacking in the game makes no difference, because the game is so much fun that I don't notice what's wrong with it, and frankly I don't care. =)

Graphics - Blizzard must have more artists than god. I'm still not sure how they made a game look so good while still being stable on reasonable comps.

Gameplay - GREAT, action kept going and downtime was nill. The controls were solid. Never got frustrated with this game, angry at a wipe in an instance, yes; Frustrated, no.

Sound - A dissapointment for me. It would get crackly sometimes (never happens in any other game for me). And to be honest unless it was crackling i'd never notice the music. The voices were funny and are the reason i'm not saying sound is a 1. Maybe beta will be different.

Interface and Control - Interface is second only to EQ. And i have played many MMO's including FFXI (worst interface), DAoC(bland), AO(honestly don't remember....), AC (meh), SWG(bleh). Why people have a problem with this interface i'll never know... You can set window size, create new windows, place what text you want to appear in which window... and you can customize it more with XML and LUA code.

Fun-Factor: Would have been 10 if there was a SoW spell (that's a run speed increase for all you poor FFXI players out there)

Final Thoughts: I'm actually getting school projects done 2 weeks in advance, so I can play mad hours of WoW.

The music is always the first thing to get old in an MMO like someone else said. I think the music does alot for the mood in some areas, and I think if there was some kind of battle music for every mob you fight it would get old VERY quick. That being said here are my scores:

Graphics: 10

Unique style graphics and you dont need a supercomputer to run the game decently.

Gameplay: 10

You can exp solo. Coming from FFXI where "Decent Challenge" past level 15 means that you dont stand a chance, this is great.

Sound: 8

I like the music alot, but some battle sound effects and character voices could have been better.

Control: 9

The looting system was kind of a pain to click through after every kill but other than that the control was great.

Fun-factor: 10

Very fun game, cool character animations, tons of quests to keep you busy, seemless gameplay... World of Warcraft is the new king of MMORPGS, no doubt about it.

Theres 2 very important things that i forgot to mention.

Strategy - you need strategy to be a good player, this makes it fun and realistic. Best example so far in my experience is Deadmines, after doing it 8 times i knew exactly what to do and which paths to take. Its fun, especially at the end when you have to time it perfectly or you agro the green patrolling dude and you wipe, it keeps you on edge lol.

The game also doesnt get boring, the quests actually have a story line, like the defias brotherhood quests. Quests lead into each other, they arent all like "kill 10 of these", "kill 10 of these harder things", "kill 10 of these hardest things". They are dynamic and different, lots of replayability

I loved the graphics despite people saying they were too cartoony or looked like faerietale books. I loved the look and how different it was from other games. Facial expressions, terrain, social emotes. They all added to the graphics being the best of any game I've seen yet, gave it a 9 though because there were still flaws in some graphics interaction, but that's only to be expected in a beta.

The gameplay was so amazing, I didn't mind at all doing things over again, reading the fading quest text, or running around the areas to find quest mobs. Even when I was getting beaten down over and over and over, I still had fun going back and trying or finding a group to do it with. The gameplay is very cool.

The sound is beautiful hands down. The music is awesome, but... it kept looping and playing and after a while I turned it off. The voices became aggravating after a while and I turned those off as well, especially when they talk that they are too far or they can't see something. Argh.

The Interface could be tons better. I'm not a ******, but I like to see my own name and guild over my head and it really really annoyed me that I couldn't. I also -hate- my hotbars at the bottom of the screen and tried desperatly every day to move it in hopes there was a mini patch. This needs work on and I -really- hope they make the windows moveable.

Over all... I cancelled the two other MMORPG's I was playing less than 2 hours into playing the Beta for the first time. This game blew me over and shot me down, it was and is the best game out there.

I think that for the style they were going for, they did exceedingly well. I also give them credit for making it able to run on the crappiest of crapboxes(my friend's PC), while still looking nice. My only complaint would be a lack of character customization and armor/weapon textures.

Gameplay: 9

Some balance issues need to be worked out PvP wise, but for the most part, the game is flawless. I never encountered a broken quest.

Sound: 4

The only place the game was lacking IMO. I found myself time and time again turning on my MP3's before I started playing. Blizz, you could do better /scold.

Interface and control: 10

Perfect. To make it even more perfect, try downloading Cosmos.

Fun Factor: 10

Easily the most enjoyable MMORPG I've played in years.

Additional Notes :

Don't be fooled by the first 20 levels of gameplay. They are easy. The real game begins when you get to the contested zones(PvP) and leveling and tradeskilling actually becomes difficult. Also, I would highly reccomend you play on a PvP server.

Blizzard doesnt beat you over the head with sound in the game, because to be honest, even if they had some good battle music, it would become as bland and annoying as EQs battle music.

I loved the music in game, it adds a lot of atmosphere, but music in MMOs will never be "good". when your in a zone for hours and hours your going to hear the same thing over and over, but if that same thing happens to be atmospheric and just a light overlay, there is less chance that most people will be forced to turn down their sound settings. Its not perfect though, because even with all the atmospheric music going on outside of battles, there needs to be something that is not too anoying, but gets your blood pumping for fights.
