Gnome PopulationFollow

#1 Nov 19 2004 at 12:29 PM Rating: Decent
A question for all the beta testers out there: have you noticed many Gnomes in the World of Warcraft? I would expect they are the least populated of the classes, as I havent heard many people at all talk of them. I would guess they shared a city with another race, like the Galka in FFXI.

Sure, they're there, but Galka were the least populated class in FFXI. From the way things are looking, Gnomes even less so in WoW... Has anyone noticed this?

I can't speak for the Horde classes, but I'd say its fair to say there are fewer gnomes than other Alliance races. You find a lot of them in the dwarven areas, since they share the same beginning area with them.

From what I understand, they're in exile after the destruction of their home city.

Gnomes share an are with the dwarves. I don't have exact numbers but when I played a gnome I noticed a half decent amount of Gnomes.

Oh ya, I also played a galka, GALKA'S ruled!

Actually I have seen quite a few Gnomes.

Not as many Dwarves/Gnomes as there are Humans/Night Elves, but I feel that is more of the "I wanna be a Paladin/Druid" mindset than anything else. Everyone wants to play what they think would be the most uber toon.

But when it comes to PVP or casters....Gnomes are tough to beat, I feel this is one of the main reasons that people complain so much about Gnomes. For what they do, they do it better than alot of other races.

Nah, people complain about gnomes simply because they're gnomes. I mean, c'mon, look at them! They're just so...puntable!

Gimli: Toss me.
Aragorn: What?
Gimli: I cannot jump the distance. You'll have to toss me.
[pauses, looks up to Aragorn]
Gimli: Don't tell the elf.

[a wall of soldiers line the ramparts - the top of Gimli's helm barely peeks over the top]
Gimli: [to Legolas] You could have picked a better spot.

I was a gnome throughout the open beta, and I had a blast. Sure, there were fewer gnomes than the rest of the alliance races, but it seemed to fit with the storyline and I think it adds to their charm. As for PvP, there is nothing better than hididng in small bushes, and spamming AOE spells. Also, their escape artist racial trait is invaluable for getting out of entangling spells. Before the open beta I was undecided, but now I am 100% certain of playing a gnome as my main race in retail.

Yeah, where I was at, there were definitely a lot of gnomes. They're very cute.

Why exactly are they tought to beat?

Ok, cool. Was just wondering if they were noticably slumping in numbers.

I know I sure as hell won't be one, especially if what I've read many times that race doesn't really make a difference is true. :P

Order of Races for me:
Tauren Druid
Night Elf Rogue
Orc Warrior/Hunter
Undead Warlock
Dwarf Warrior/Paladin
Troll Shaman
Human Paladin
Gnome Mage/Priest

He could be talking about the hard time it is to target them, or he could be talking about their racial abilitie which allows them to get out of a few spells which are vital to some classes.

Thanks Vamp, that was what I was kinda aiming at.

Gnomes make excellent casters and shockingly effective rogues.

Take Stealth, add to it the smallest stature in the game, the ability of Vanish, the racial ability to shrug off roots, snares and the like and you have what is IMHO one of the best PVP rogue races out there.

I'm always partial to Halflings and so a Gnome came naturally. Best or Worst means little to me I just have fun with them and it gives me an excuse to be completely Silly and unpredicable. After I found out I could train Guns I was in Heaven even as a Rogue. I love it when they run from me......."just a little further....*BLAM*....*thud*"

Since Mobs move around so much I dont even bother setting up stealthed most of the time just Shoot them from afar and hope to get two shots off then Stun them when they get close. Then in perfect Silly Form Leap over them spin around and plant a backstab. It truely doesnt get much better for sheer fun being me :)

The thing about short races for me I guess is the fact that they seem like natural underdogs in most peoples eyes. I only wish there was a Goblin playable race so I would feel comfy on the Horde side as well.

I played a gnome mage and loved it. Theres just something about a little 3 foot tall character throwing fireballs.

That and they get a pretty hefty INT boost from the start.

Gnomes are probably one of the best (if not the best) alliance classes for mages.

I was a dwarf, and there were a fair number of gnomes when I was questing. There was probably close to a 50/50 split between dwarves and gnomes.

Play what you want to play, just because a lot of other people want to play the same race/class as you doesnt mean you have to choose another one.

We fought mainly the elves of ashenvale, but jeez it seemed like every elf on server was there. I saw quite a few humans, a fair number of dwarfs, and one gnome. Warrior. Female even.
