Sign Up for the World of Warcraft Stress Test Beta! - Block on 08/26/04
In order to evaluate World of Warcraft's account-creation process and server performance under heavy loads, Blizzard will be conducting a seven-day stress test beta in the days ahead. This test will require over 100,000 players to download the World of Warcraft stress test beta client, create an account, and log on to play when the test goes live!
To make the client available for download to such a large audience, we have partnered with FilePlanet, GameSpy's Web-based file-delivery service. Click here to learn more about the World of Warcraft stress test beta and to sign up for a chance to participate in this special event.

In summary, what this basically says is that if you sign up to Fileplanet, you will be able to d/l WoW and play for a week when Stress Test Beta goes live. Remember, you must sign up for FilePlanet as a paying subscriber to be guaranteed get in. So you can sign up freely if you're a poor bum but if you fork some dough, consider yourself in. Also, keep in mind there is no release date for when Stress Test beta goes live. Hope this info helps.

PS: Just wanted to add that I overlooked the F&Q section. Here's a quick link so you can have all your burning questions answered:

Just a few comments, for those who don't want to follow the links provided :-P

The stress test server (100,000 players) for one week is not the same server as the current beta or PvP server.

You do not have to pay fileplanet for this, however, fileplanet is giving their paid subscribers, the first CD Keys. After that, non-subscribers will be issued CD Keys (so you don't have to pay).

Stress test accounts will be wiped (you loose your toons), like the beta testers accounts, pre-release.

Just random FYIs :)

Thank you, Lynndo! Though one must find their own info themselves at times. People tend to be seriously lazy seeking out info they need. I say bah with them! Let them find their own answers! They should be happy I dug this up otherwise they wouldn't have known ;P

(Yes, I'm feeling evil today...)

For once, I am glad that I have a job and a credit card. $7.50/month is not a whole lot. A movie ticket where I live in more expensive than that.

It's not like I am going to keep my membership forever. ^^'

Thanks for the find Redmoonxl. I gots me my key yay! Can't wait for blizzard to annouce the stress date.

Okay.

First; I need this.
Second; I need this..
Third; I need this...
Fourth; How do I assure I get it without paying?

Or, am I un-assured and just have to wait?

I might just pay Fileplanet so I can get in.

Hmm, my dad said I could get the 18.95 thing, and I told him about the 7.90 deal, but.. one thing.. how long do I get it for the 18.95 compared to the 7.90?

Before paying the membership to be assured entry to the seven day lagfest, remember this is not open beta. Server crashes and ungodly lag should be expected since it's a stress test. Anyway, good luck (heh) to those wanting to participate.

I'm aware of lagfest and all that other good stuff. But it is expected to begin with...that's why it's a Stress Test. And if $7.50 are going to satisfy my crave for one week, $1+ a day, I'm in all the way.

I just one a hit man. Just one hit!!

Personally, I would pay to see all those people in the starting zones at once. ^^
#14 Aug 27 2004 at 3:46 PM Rating: Decent
well, since this is the stress test, im sure that after awhile they will fix any problems with crashes and lag they can, and near the middle-ish end of the stress test, it will be enjoyable(lag-wise)

for one the fee is to fileplanets web site so it can be ad free. I for one am not gonna toss money down the drain just because file planet decides to use somthing thats free to get money. Ill just wait a bit, and when i get my key (for free as its supoosed to be) Ill buy some pizza and a 6 pack and enjoy the lagfest game while the rest will be whining that they spent their money for nothing.

Oh btw I was reading the faq and i found somthing reallly important i wanted to share with everyone.

"Why is Blizzard conducting a stress test for World of Warcraft?
Blizzard is conducting a stress test to measure the maximum operating capacity for the World of Warcraft infrastructure, namely the servers and account-creation pages.

Blizzard wants as many people as possible to overload the infrastructure to determine the optimum population a World of Warcraft server can support. "

read the last part well and take your time reading it.

That said it seems that all the people who are dishing out money to file planet are getting Jipped. Because Blizzard wants as many people possible means there are loads of reg keys aval and soon you can get em for free..

Well Ill have fun with my 18.50 or my 7.90 Pizza and booze !!
#17 Aug 27 2004 at 6:12 PM Rating: Decent
7.90 is a small price to pay to secure your dreams.

OK it is $7.90 still not bad. I'm just impatient and don't leave too many things to chance, I seem to have bad luck ¬¬

All I am asking for is one HIT!

I wouldn't look forward to enjoying playing during a stress test. The servers will be (a) lagged out beyond belief, (b) crashing repeatedly, and (c) everything will be overcamped in the newbie zones.

I sincerely hope the stress test does not occur on the current beta servers. We already had our own stress testing and it sucked.

Stress test = one week of unimaginable lag as blizzard stuffs every possible person they can onto one server to find the limit and find out whats the ideal number they can have on a server without it lagging for everyone.
there is NO reason to pay for this.
Open beta comes later in the year, wait for that to come arround before you waste money on file planet <_<.
Also I plan on trying to get into this so I can see the character creation and pick out what I want to look like early as a bit of fun, thats about it.
#24 Aug 28 2004 at 11:07 AM Rating: Decent
Okay, well, if I don't want to pay, but still get in, where is the link for sign-ups (no money req.)?

I could pay for it, but as Xenomm says: "there is NO reason to pay for this."

Here's the link for the free signup:

http://www.fileplanet.com/subscribe/gsn_combo_qnt_wow_nonsub.shtml

It is supposed to be opened up in a few days. Figure Fileplanet has 10,000 to 20,000 members who will sign up tops and maybe another couple thousand will actually pay to play a lagged out game for a week. That leaves as many as 80,000 open slots. You should probably be able to get in even without paying fileplanet.
