WowReader Issues and HelpFollow

#227 Sep 16 2005 at 10:20 AM Rating: Decent
I just downloaded Wowreader after 1.7. After installing it I try to run and it hangs at 2 bars while "Downloading patch.xml."

Then the following error comes up: "Error downloading update: The underlying connection was closed. Unable to connect to remote server."

I've read this entire thread and I can't seem to find any indication that this has been addressing.

You have a proxy set - http://actsvr.comcastonline.com:8100/
If you don't actually have to use a proxy, you need to go and clear that out. In internet explorer, go to Internet Options under the Tools menu, and click on the Connections tab and check under LAN settings.

I'm having a problem with WowReader since WoW 1.7 came out. I am receiving this error message: "Version check failed. WowReader is disabled pending update. (expected 4544, got 4671). DON'T PANIC! If WoW was patched in the last day or 2, it may take some time for anew version to appear. Please try starting Wowreader again later to check for updates."

I have tried multiple times to update WowReader, but each time I start the program, this error message pops up. After reading this thread, I tried the suggestion of uninstalling WowReader and installing the latest version to download. The error message window continues to pop up even after the program has been uninstalled.

While trying to install the latest version, the install immediately fails with this error: "Error opening file for writing: wowreader.exe".

How can I stop the error message from popping up if there is nothing to uninstall?

ajlehr: It sounds like something is keeping the file open for some reason, so the uninstaller couldnt delete it either. Have you tried rebooting? That'll definately close whatever it is.

I'm having a similar problem, but I use firefox. When I push upload it says- Connection Error: An invalid argument was supplied. Or it tries to download and then gets hung up. Then it gives me the error message.

I don't know if I'm right, but the +15% agi that I get from my Survival tree (hunter) doesn't seem to show up in my profile.

Is this due to no "buffs" being calculated, or can this be fixed?

I've just downloaded an installed WoWreader and I have updated my char fine, but it never shows any quests or items to upload. Why is this? I'm playing in the UK, does this work for the EU servers, if not, is there any point me using the programme?

Thought I would install it as I use the site a fair bit and thought I would help out a bit.

I, too, keeo getting the "Version check failed. WowReader is disabled pending update. (expected 4544, got 4671). DON'T PANIC! If WoW was patched in the last day or 2, it may take some time for anew version to appear. Please try starting Wowreader again later to check for updates." error message, but neither rebooting nor uninstalling and reinstalling could fix it.

"Version check failed. WowReader is disabled pending update. (expected 4671, got 4695). DON'T PANIC! If WoW was patched in the last day or 2, it may take some time for a new version to appear. Please try starting Wowreader again later to check for updates."

I have un installed, reinstalled, multiple times, have rebooted, and now my friend, who used to have his working, just now, started up WoWReader and got the same error.

We only collect item and other data from US servers for consistency. You're welcome to keep using it to update your characters, but thats all it will do for you.

Hey um I have 2 profiles listed when I search my realm and was wondering if you could delete this one:

http://wow.allakhazam.com/profile.html?239704

It's the older of the two and doesn't update.
#243 Sep 23 2005 at 2:15 PM Rating: Decent
You can delete your characters yourself if you click on the "Your Characters..." on the far left hand side of screen, there should be a delete link in your character's little window (before you go to the profile page) where you're looking at which character's profile you want to view.

Seems to work well here, although it is reporting an incorrect "Attack Power" stat! That the same for everyone?

what are the chances of ditching .NET framework as a requirement?

microsoft's .net framework 1.1 download is currently out of service and there's not one damn mirror for it anywhere to be found.

its really ghetto to force people to download a bunch of crap just to run this dinky little program.

if thottbot can do it, why cant you ?

Try here? I just checked and it works fine. A quick google search found lots of mirrors for me.

A large number of people already have .NET installed from other apps.

The current program works fine, and removing the dependancy would require rewriting it from scratch.

Hi Guys,

An EU user here, and I've just started on one of the 2 new RPPvP realms, but WoWReader doesn't seem to upload my characters from that server. It can upload data from my characters on other servers, just not this one. Its not just me either, as other people are experiencing the same problem.

Any help would greatly be appreciated. :D

I'm new so please bear with me, I've uploaded WowReader and was able to download my character data but I can't see any quest data. The reader shows the number of quest so it looks like it's in the database but is not showing up on the "My Character" page. I'm on a US server so that's not the issue. Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

im trying to open the program(wow reader) and then I get this popup saying "Error has been saved to error.txt" and the Updater is just standing still. Shall I just wait for the updater to finish and just let the popup be there.. ? Cus when I am closing the popup.. The updater is closing to.. So, it doesnt seem to work for me..
