I just read that the COE mercs are more powerful than regular mercs, but cost the same. My question is, I have the standard version of CoE, and was wondering if these mercs (I mostly use the SK merc, so thinking Pally would work well fi the claims are true) are worth the $50 cost of upgrading to CE.

I'm personally not too impressed with the CE mercs yet, but it's worth waiting for the devs to tweak them more and see how they turn out after that. Maybe ask around in the next week and hope they improve them more before biting the bullet. :)

My CoE Paladin isn't dying any more, but I think my regular Qeynosian one was better still.

They are definitely not worth $50 at this point IMO, I think the SK outperforms the Werewolf Paladin (though the paladin rez is nice). The devs stated they are looking into it and going to make them better I think, but I would definitely wait.
About 2 weeks ago, I started looking for the elite mercenaries and ended up finding Kenny late last week, he is very expensive to maintain (30p to hire and 3p per half hour), but boy is he worth it, he way outperforms the normal mercs. Might be something you want to consider looking into instead of paying $50.

My main (Swashy) has been using Perrin. Definitely enjoy using him, so if you're having trouble finding Kenny check for Perrin in Withered Lands. :)
