So yesterday was Labor Day here in the States, when we celebrate work by taking the day off. It's kind of the unofficial last day of summer. We took the kids out fishing.

It's gonna be an odd week. Hubby starts night classes tonight and then heads out to the woods until Sunday to try and put a moose in our freezer, so I'm playing single parent all week.

Back in Norrath, I've been working on our POI's in relation to the Exploration Achievements on Test. I've been slowly cleaning up our POI's anyway, tagging discovery XP and adding EQ2 Maps UIDs and such, this just put a rugh under the project. Our GU53 is in pretty fair shape considering the ETA is a couple weeks away and things could still change. We're having a hard time getting info on Miragul's Planar Shard, as raid groups seem a bit scarce on Test Copy. If you're playing on test, you're quite welcome to contribute to the wiki info on Shards of Destiny.

How was your weekend?

Lainey and I have been trying to get outside for what last few nice days we have left. It's a good thing she's so small, our yard must look huge to her for now. I've been trying to get her trained to not jump on people, and obediently come when she's called, all so she can go on a weekend camping trip that some friends and I occasionally go on. My friend's parents own some property thats lake-side in one of Minnesota's parks, so she brings her pug Guido with, and then our mutual friends come out for a few days of bonfires and alcohol. This year, Guido will have someone to play with.

In game of course, I received my mythical on Friday night. Other then that I've been working on my tinkering finally. I'm only at 48/400 but it's a start.

Also, I started playing DDO when I heard it was going Free 2 Play, and now that it's active I've been delving into the world of Stormreach. So far, I really like the way they handle XP and leveling. The zones are just immense and challenging, while being soloable (the fact that you can select dungeon levels also intrigues me). The map system blows though.

DDO went f2p??!! Wow, I must have been asleep.

I played DDO, very briefly, during its free trial phase, but never paid for it. There was just so much not to like, but maybe I will go take a new look, now.

It's very much a pleasurable game. I've heard much like Guild Wars, where cities are the only 'social' areas, and as soon as you set foot out into a wild area (if you are not in a group that is), that the whole place has a nice solitude...not to mention no competing for mobs/nameds.

What are some of the things you didn't like about it? As I stated I really hate the map system. It's just a major flaw that everytime you go into an area you have to uncover it again. Dungeons I could see if they were random mapping, but they aren't (and if you are doing a quest, I can see the roleplay aspect of not knowin where things are), but still not the wild areas, that you can openly explore.

The controls took some working, not exactly a fluid UI either but I'm developing a hang of it.

I beta tested DDO waaaaay back in the day. I know they made a lot of changes to it once it went live, but it really wasn't my thing back then. I might have to take another look at it since it's gone through so many changes.

Actually, now that I think about it, I somehow managed to get into the alpha test, if that's what it was. I mean, this game was super buggy, had no content, and there weren't many of us around. Yeah, that's it... and I don't think I joined again when I was offered a beta test, haha.

I spent Sunday working on the housing page, getting all the max item counts, floor plans and number of rooms polished up to reflect the GU53 changes. Monday I played EQ2 all day (there were several guide events going on on Everfrost!) and yesterday I enjoyed the kids' first day back at school!

Whenever the silly maintainence finishes, I'll be getting back on track with Free Realms mobs. Otherwise Calthine might have my head! *has nightmares about becoming the Headless Knight*

I didn't know that DDO went F2P either. Maybe I'll check that out sometime.

I tried several times to play DDO after it went f2p however never got past the registration process. Keeps asking for a Product Key. So, I assumed that it required a retail purchase of the game. /shrugs

Did some googling and I found this for you "https://trial.turbine.com/ddo.php" ... its not a free trial anymore, and that should get you setup with a free account and everything you will need.

Also, you may want to wait a few hours, according to http://twitter.com/DDOReports "The ddo.com site appears to be having trouble. Hopefully this is due to volume of sign-ups, and not just a technical problem."
Indeed the main site is down, and the launcher is taking some extra time to log in.
