Okay another question...

Do you basically have to commit to an alignment on a server? Or can you have like 2 good alignment and 2 evil alignment on the same server? I know on like the PvP servers on WoW, when you choose one you can't pick both.

You have have both good & bad characters on the same account. The differences are pretty minor after the first few levels, although it's still difficult to go wandering in the opposite alignment's cities (although a few heritage quests need you to do so - usually via the sewer system). The main differences are the races & classes you can pick e.g. a shadowknight can only be bad, paladin only good. Trolls can only be bad unless they do a betrayal quest (SK would become a paladin), etc.

Once you hit level 20 or so, you are out in the wide world, in the same zones & can group and chat freely with anyone (except on PVP servers). There are no problems with mixed alignment guilds either, and 'evil' characters can still get in & out of their Qeynos guildhall.

Edit: You can also freely pass items & cash between your characters via your shared bank slots, regardless of alignment. Buy some big boxes to put in the bank slots and you can share most of your stuff with *all* of the characters on your account/server.

They made it a lot easier over the years, I mean the little things like shared bank slots even between evil and good characters which I believe was not possible in the early days. (I seem to recall this for a reason, someone correct me if I'm wrong plz)

Yes, in the beginning, good and evil couldn't share bank slots or send mail to each other. Which seemed kind of odd. I mean, my iksar can hang out and kill stuff with a high elf, but couldn't mail her later and invite her over for tea. Smiley: mad

So is it different on PvP servers? I'm just a little confused about how you can group togethor if you can technically kill each other as well on a PvP server. Also I've been looking around and it seems people say that someone who is new shouldn't start on a PvP server.

Also, my computer has been shipped so you might be seeing a newbie Crusader or Bard wandering around in the near future :)

Yes, on a PVP server, good and evil can't group. But that's about all I know about PVP in EQ2 since I don't play there.

From what I hear, PVP is different here. PVP was originally *never* going to be in the game. In the beginning, there wasn't even consensual dueling. It was eventually added after enough people expressed an interest in it. But EQ2 remains mostly a PVE game. Maybe you could start up characters on both types of servers and see what floats your boat best.

Nadenu pretty much summed it up. The only other point I know about pvp, is that Evil/Good alts cannot use the shared bank. I found a link on Sony that should clear up the rest of the rules.

That'd be a deal breaker for me, right there. I love that shared bank.

Actually I believe the time frame you will be entering is off. EQOA is 1000 years before EQ. And EQ2 is based 500 years after EQ1 on a split time line. So technically your looking at a 1500 year difference on world changes and what not.
