Station Launcher needs to download ENTIRE game?Follow

#1 Jul 09 2009 at 9:05 PM Rating: Decent
OK, so I downloaded the Station Launcher. I installed it, and pointed it towards my EQ2 folder, and hit the magic button, expecting it to update my game, and off we go.

Well, that's not exactly what happened. It checked my files, and started a download of around 18GB! (Not sure if that is the exact size, but close to it!)

I double checked this, and it was the exact size of my EQ2 folder.

So I went in and poked around, wondering if I had it set to update the test server... I couldn't find anything which allowed me to change from test to regular servers.

My question is this:

Is it normal for the station launcher to have to download the entire game again? Did I do something wrong? If so, any suggestions would be more than welcome...

OH yeah, what about the maps from eq2 interface? Will they work with the launcher?

(Sorry, I'm tired, and I cant think what the actual name is... )

The first time you fire up the launcher it seems to download the whole game - 'metter of fact, when I changed to the first live version from the Beta version it did it. I'm betting that it has something to do with filechecking (for later updates), but you could ask Dan Kinney over on the Launcher fourms. It doesn't do it *every* time, although it will do a scan each time you go to launch the game.

Yes, EQ2 maps works with the launcher :)

It depends on how old the versions of the files are on your hdd that you installed, but yeah, this is pretty common. The patcher checks the versions of your files against the versions on the server and anything newer gets replaced. In the case of a first time install just about everything is going to be out of date right off the bat. So yeah, the first time you patch after installing the game, it pretty much has to update everything and it takes a long time. After that initial patching though, the update only takes seconds outside of big game update days.

And EQ2Maps works just fine. :)

Edit - Damn Cal, beating me to the punch. grrrr. ;)

It just changes the directory path.. those folders are still there somewhere on your hard drive. Copy them over manually to the new location.

Ahh, ok. Is there no way to point the patcher to where the files already are?
