Help for returning playersFollow

#1 Mar 31 2009 at 6:07 AM Rating: Decent
My wife and I just returned to EQ2 after several years of trying competing products and we really like the changes in EQ2!

With that being said, my wife has been playing a pallie and I created a troubadour both lvl 22 right now. Our game play is mostly centered around quests, though I enjoy a good dungeon run every now and then. We will eventually run occasional raids with our guild but that won't be for a while.

With that info, here's my question:

Would we be better off with me playing a different class? I have an illusionist I could dust off, a ranger and a fury. Which class would help the most for dungeon runs? Should I make a new char?

I appreciate the feedback!

In your case I'd probably go with the fury. Enough firepower to keep your damage respectable and fights short, but with the healing so that you can take on tougher stuff as a duo with less worry. Also, when you are forming groups you'll already have the core tank+healer combo ready to go and won't have to worry about finding a healer to get a group started (possibly one of the more annoying aspects of group creation).

If you enjoy the fury, I'd agree with Stugein and say go pally/fury for an above average tank/healer duo. However, IMHO, there are better tank options for a druid to duo with. If your wife is agreeable to re-rolling, monk and zerker both work really well with a druid (and either one outputs higher damage than a pally). In addition, the zerker is somewhat more versatile in a raiding context (monk and pally are not usually considered optimum as MT in a raid)

If a re-roll is in your future, you might also consider rolling a warden instead of the fury. In my experience, (I play both flavors of druid) a warden can output just as much damage as a fury but has slightly better healing skills. the big difference is that over time (across tiers) a fury will get a greater variety of damage spells (more DoTs and nukes with fewer different heals) while the warden will get a greater variety of healing skills with fewer DoTs and nukes.

What tips the scales (for me) is that the refresh rate on the warden's damage spells is shorter, so although you need to cast the same spells more often, you can because they refresh faster. In fact, my big nukes are usually ready before the HO starter has come back up!

As a bonus, if you both re-roll you can level up together and take advantage of all the new low level content that has become available!

In any case, welcome back!
