Thanks in advance for your oppinions. I have been looking to start a new toon, just need a little help narrowing down what I am looking for. Been leaning towards Bruiser.

What I am looking for is a good solo class, that can occasionally get in groups. I am a very bad tank in groups tho, so do not want that role. Not too worried about raiding, play mostly casual and have other toons for that.

Can a bruiser play dps role in a group? Or are they mostly expected to tank? Are there any scout classes that may be more suited for what I am looking for. My main is an assassin, so not really looking for predator class.

Thanks for all your oppinions

Disclaimer: my main is a warden so my contact with both tanks and DPSers is primarily from the POV of keeping them standing, however...

If you're looking for a more "DPS-y" kind of tank, you might consider a monk or zerker. Both of these deliver a higher level of DPS (since they are each kind of tank-hybrids) and neither is really considered a "serious" contender to lead the main tank slot in the MT group of a raid.

Admittedly, I have been in raids where a zerker tanked one or more of the boss mobs but they are more often used in the role of "off tank".

I have been in a lot of duos and small groups with both of these classes and they each tend to handle both roles (tank & DPS) very well.

I would say the role of Brawler (Monk/Bruiser) would fit what you're looking for very well. Both are excellent soloers, cant get in and out of sticky situations much easier with a quick refresh feign death, have multiple stances to switch from, etc.

Both can tank and tank well if you know what you are doing in that regard. Both can DPS well. Neither will be the best of either, but can still hold their own in groups.

Brawlers tend to have more mit, which means they take less damage per hit. Monks are heavy on avoidance, which means they get hit less often. Monks do tend to have more survivability skills, with Tsunami and mountain stance.

Hope that helps

Monks also have invis, don't think bruisers get that. (not really sure, never did find it when I betrayed and became a bruiser with my monk)

Soloing is not a problem, but then it isn't for most I suppose.

We're mostly supposed to off tank, or so I experience it anyway. We can withstand a beating, mostly by avoiding getting hit, can grab aggro swiftly (very handy lvl 80 spell for that) and have a handy group feign death.

hint: Race doesn't matter like in EQ1, except in PvE play it can determine your starting area. No one race is better at any class than any other!

So pick something you like :)
