Question on ExpansionsFollow

If I just install the vanilla version of the game how much will I be missing out and to what levels do all the expansions and adventure packs make themselves noticed?

Because, I do want to play (I have the retail copy in hand vanilla), but I don't want to miss out on anything between the levels of 1-30 let's say if I had the expansions and adventure packs.

But, in the case that "any" of the expansions and/or adventure packs make themselves known almost at the beggining of gameplay I want to be able to experience it before I start a new account.

But, my dilemma comes as the new expansion TSO comes out in a few weeks, but should I just wait till then, or just get RoK for the time being so I can "experience" the new content and adventure packs. Guys, I have never played EQ2 in any other way other than it's vanilla version.

Thanks so much guys and I know it's a lot to read, but I appreciate any input in this.

Should I just install the vanilla now, or get RoK (and all other content previous) to experience something I have not expereinced yet before with all the packs etc.

Thanks so much guys and gals.

Bel. :)

With the vanilla game you will be limited to level 50, and the original zones. You probably wouldn't miss out that much in these regards. However, the expansions also include the Achievement Awards system, which is independant of the normal adventure level system. You will miss out on those, as you can start earning 'AA' points once you hit level 20 if you have the expansions.

I'm not sure what the price difference is, but if you can't wait for the next expansion, get the latest (Rise of Kunark) unless you can find the vanilla game much, much cheaper. The monthly subscription will add up to a lot more than the inital game cost anyway, and is the same whichever expansion you have.

Don't buy any expansions earlier than Echoes of Faydwer (if you can find them)

Hi Huberkuffle!

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I have a new CE edition in hand as we speak. I was just waiting to hear what veteran players had to say about this just in case. So, I already have a new CE waiting to be fired up. My dilemma is waiting another three weeks for the most recent expansion TSO to be released.

But, that costs $40, and the RoK costs $20, and then I can get playing right away. Is it true that the TSO expansion will probably not even affect me at all as it is end game level stuff?

I really want to play but what would be your recommendations? Thank you so much Huber!

In all honesty I would recomend getting the full package now, mainly because of Achievement points, and the fact with getting all up to ROK you have more choices of playable characters. Not to mention with ROK there were a few more newbie zones with better xp and quest rewards, so more areas to explore when you're younger.

Also, at $40 for ROK you get everything and dont have to worry about buying each one piece by piece. Yes, you'll have to get SOO when it comes out next month, but if you wait to buy with that included, you're also missing out on an entire month of playing.

If you have the CE in hand, I'd go ahead and install it. Then pre-order the next expansion. What you'll be missing out on is three new starting cities and two new races, but you can certainly roll a toon and get it out into the world and have lots of fun in three weeks.

There's so much content that you could roll three or four characters and have plenty of new stuff to explore.

Hey guys,

Thank you so much for the very helpful responses. I've decided to order RoK yesterday mainly for the new content, adventure packs, and the new newbie zones. Also, it was only $20 and I get all the previous content released thus far, and can start playing very soon rather than wait a month to play.

One more question: So, I will install the CE vanilla first, create a new account, and then what do I do? Install the RoK expansion after it on the same account? How does that work?

And, I already have a station account, but do not want to play on that server anymore. So, with my new CE should I just create an entirely new station account? How does that work?

Again, this board is so nice and responsive and I want to thank you all for the help I've received thus far.

Sincerely,

Bel. :)

Your station account shouldn't have anything to do with the server(s) you are on. Station is a single location where SOE stores your account information for all Sony games (like credit card data and personal preferences but also a record of all the games and expansions you are currently subscribed to). It also acts as a hub for the forums and other info relating to SOE games. But you can play on any server from any account. If you don't want to keep a character you have made during a trial, just delete it!

Do you mean a free trial account that you set up to try out the game? If so you can either abandon that account and start fresh or you can continue from there using the same user name and password.

As far as how to upgrade from the basic game to the RoK expansion, when you get RoK, you can go to your account on the station site and there will be a place for you to input the key that comes with RoK. Using the key will open up your access to everything not included in the basic game package.

You will also receive a bunch of in game items with RoK (like house pets). You can get these by typing */claim* from anywhere in game. This will bring up a window with a list of all the goodies you are currently entitled to. Additional goodies will be added to the list as you pass certain milestones (like the one month mark).

Hi OldBlueDragon!

Wow, great response to my questions. What I'm talking about is that I have a new CE I want to install and make a new account cause I already claimed a baby dragon on the old account, and I don't want that toon anymore and if I delete him I delete the baby dragon too.

So, I get a month free, a new CE, and a new baby dragon. Better deal for me, and should I just start a new station account then with the new CE I got? Your thoughts on this please.

And thank you for clearing up my worries on how to add RoK.

Yeah you can just start a new account and go from scratch.

But before you delete the toon with the dragon, start your 2nd account and give the old toon full access to your new toon's home. Then have the old toon pick up the dragon, take it to the new toon's house and leave it there. Then when you delete the old toon you can keep the dragon!
