I use "high performance" for my custom settings so I have no lag and my guy moves pretty quick. Recently my kid was messing around with settings and he came up with something that made spells look much cooler (which now we can't replicate) Any idea what makes spells look cooler? Is it particle effects?

It might be he turned your particle effects up. Alt O under Display look for particle effect. You can change it from Minimum to Very High, then you can also turn effects for near and far up on the scale and turn particle size up. That usually can keep your game running fine in performance mode, while also allowing you to see the beauty of spells. hope that helps
