Buying a houseFollow

If I buy a house what should I consider. Does it really matter where it is or whatever or is it just a fluff thing for fun. Should I buy one in a major city? Is it a waste to buy a crappy one?

Any advice is appreciated.

The answer to most of that is "It's relative". Location within a city no longer matters as much since there are now bells connecting all the city zones. I personally wouldn't live in Maj'Dul as the broker markup is 40% for everyone and it's just too damn far to go shopping to avoid broker fees.

Where is does make a difference is a) how many items you can put in your house and b) how many broker slots you get. The biggest houses get 500 items and 6 broker slots.

Another consideration is cost, both status and cash :)

I have two houses I use regularly, my main's mansion in South Qeynos and an alt's house in Willow Wood where my main can access her House Vault.

It is a waste to buy a small one? Not really, 'cause you can go buy a bigger one any time. Just go buy another one and the Gnomish Moving Company automagically packs all your stuff up and leaves it in a crate in your new house :)

Also, it's unlikely that you can afford a "nice" house this soon. In many cases, the purchase price is a combination of cash and status points and you will not have had enough time to build up a reserve of either. In addition, there is the weekly rent to consider.

The amount of weekly rent may also be a combination of cash and status and this early you will not have enough status built up to make the weekly payment or the cash reserves to purchase enough "status furniture" to offset the weekly status cost.

Bottom line is go with a small house (like a one room "starter" inn room and see how you like being a home owner... This aspect of the game may or may not appeal to you but with a one room, it's cheap to find out!

Heck, I am level 79 and still have my "one bedroom apartment' in Castleview. It's my favorite zone in Qeynos.

The bigger homes start requiring lots and lots of furniture, books, quest rewards, etc... to fill up. If you like interior decorating then the bigger homes are great. I prefer to bachelor "it up" in my castleview pad.

Plus its steps away from the bank, broker, crafting hall, and dock bells.

I think I would be happiest with just a small crappy place near anything I need (mender, place to sell my junk, etc) so I will just go with a little hole in the ground then. I don't really want to be waste time ******** around with a house but I wasn't sure if I actually would need one of the expensive ones in time just because. It seems like early spending I did on non-magical stuff armor and weapons for my guy was pretty much wasted considering the amount of loot on dead stuff thats 10 times better with some stats to boot.

This is me. I'm trying to justify buying a bigger house right now so I can put more stuff in it. Just not sure if I'm ready to make a bigger rent payment just yet.

The only thing you actually "need" a house for is as a place from which to sell and display the goods you sell on the broker.

When someone can visit you and buy right from your house they save money (10% or 20%) and this savings can be an incentive in a high ticket purchase. But until you're offering items for say a plat or more it's kind of a moot point.

I often go visit the seller when I'm buying ad3 or m1 spells or when the item(s) involved are expensive.

And if decorating the place isn't your thing, no worries... you can sell from an empty home. (Lord knows I've been to enough houses where the only items in the room were the sales crates!)
