Dual Wield?Follow

Can any character from any class equip a weapon to the secondary slot (shield slot) at any time?

Can any class dual wield? No. Some classes can and some classes can't. (I don't know all of the exact details by heart, so I'll pass on a further explanation.)

But can you switch weapons and add/remove a shield mid combat? Absolutely! On my 80 Brigand, I sometimes have to steal aggro from an add when I'm instancing without a mezzer in order to buy the party recovery time. When that happens, I use my hotbar loaded shield and defensive stance for a quick combat change.

However I've found that hotbaring an off hand weapon doesn't work quite as well. When I try to load a one hand weapon, it automatically switches it into my main hand. To switch from a shield to an off hand weapon, I have to manually drag the icons around mid combat.

Well I was wondering if my Paladin could wield dual short swords instead of a long sword and a shield.

That's the way I prefer to do things, of course if I did that I couldn't use bash...still I would rather dual wield two swords.

No, paladins cannot dual-wield. Scouts can, as well as berserkers. I think guardians too. The knights (Shadowknight and Paladin), priests and mages cannot dual-wield weapons. As a paladin your options are a one-handed weapon + shield, a one-handed weapon + symbol, or a big two-handed weapon.

Damn,
well I suppose if they are going to bother having a bash combat skill they might as well force you to use a shield.
