Starting Everquest 2...Follow

#1 Aug 16 2008 at 2:03 AM Rating: Decent
Greetings Everquest players, I have been looking in to starting Everquest 2, I've decide to root around and find some information about it while my free trial downloads. I have several questions that need answering, and sorry if they may be somewhat vague.

1. I have recently quit WOW, is Everquest 2 easy to understand and start?

2. What class is considered easy to play? I do not enjoy tanking, but I want a class that can solo, and survive on their own, without having to CONSTANTLY rely on others.

- I thought about either Necromancer, or Brigand. The race I wish to play is Ratonga, it is my favourite. As a Brigand, will I constantly have to heal after one single combat? With WoW, as a rogue, I ended up having to heal myself after battle ALL the time.

3. I play MMORPGs mostly for the RP, while discovering PvE content. What is the state of RP currently on Everquest 2, and which RP server should I choose?

4. I'm English, so will there be plently of european players that play in my timezone? RP and PvE Aspects.

I look forward to hearing you, and thanks for when you reply.

Edit: Added class ideas.

Welcome to EQ2 and welcome to Allakhazam!

1) Not to sound demeaning but remember that WoW is an entry level MMO... everything there has been dumbed down so that beginning players can easily assimilate the data and complete the tasks. (For example, you won't find a "craft all" button in this game)

Overall, I think you'll find EQ2 a little more demanding in terms of the details you have to figure out yourself and the intellectual skills you have to employ. That being said, it is a casual game and contains nowhere near the difficulty level of EQ live (the original) or Vanguard.

In addition, the beginning of the game is very intuitive with a simple, clear primer that walks you through all the basics and gives you a firm foundation of the game mechanics.

2) Every class can solo and every class is desired in groups and raids. The class system in EQ2 is well balanced and although different classes can require a different mindset or playstyle for optimum success, you are sure to find something that suits you.

Brig and Necro are both fine choices for a beginning character. Just roll one up and try him out! You'll find that after you get the basic game mechanics down you can "complete the island" or play the first 8 to 10 levels of any character in a couple hours. so you can easily roll up a bunch of different things (excluding tanks) and see what you like and what fits your style of play. Then just discard the experiments that don't work out for you!

3) The two "official" RP servers are AB (Antonia Bayle) and LD (Lucan DeLere) however, you are likely to find role players wherever you land.

4) Your best bet for finding other Brits would be to peruse the O-Forums (specifically the 22 server boards) and see what the makeup of European players is on each of them.

To some it can be easy to understand...but ive seen people call it hard. When it comes to starting, yes it is easy if you make it easy (dont think WoW)

Well, easiest classes to play i would say are casters, but they can also be challanging if you rip aggro a lot...every class can solo, so there are no worries about what classes can solo, just play what you wanna play so that you can enjoy it.

How dare you mock brigands! haha kidding, but brigands are secondary tank classes, so dont expect em to not be able to take a beating...in other words, no, you will not be resting every fight.

Good question, i play on Anotnia Bayle, the most popular of the RP servers it seems, we have RP events in the cities and also do random RP elsewhere, there are a lot of people who dont RP too, but it dosnt cancel the experience, i myself casually RP but thats just me heh.

This is a bit of a late reply, but I'm posting anyway. EQ2 is not appreciably more difficult than WoW. The reputation of difficulty is from EQ, which is much more difficult than either EQ2 or WoW. If you keep up to date with your gear, you shouldn't have any problems soloing with a scout class like the Brigand, though I recommend the Assassin instead.
