Hey there, ZAM folks. As the subject header implies, I have a friend who seems to be having some technical issue that is, well, making playing the game impossible, much less even running the game. After an evening's worth of her trying a variety of troubleshooting measures we sadly had to give up, and this was on the same day she had re-upped her subscription, so suffice it to say she's rather upset over this.

Anyway, basically what happened was that she re-upped, logged in on one of her characters for about 15-20 minutes just to make sure everything was in order, then logged off for a break before sitting down to play for a while. When she came back to do that and opened the ARR launcher, this is what happened:

She would continue to click either "Yes" or "No" after each script error popped up, but no matter what it always ended the same way: black launcher screen and no way to log in or patch or anything. We tried Google to find some answers, and we already tried the following:

-Rebooting the computer.
-Uninstalling and then reinstalling the game (so now she's not just out of date with patches but it still didn't work).
-Reinstalling/Updating Java.
-Checking FFXIV_BOOT.cfg and changing the EULA agreement value to '1' (it was already at '1' when we checked it).

So yeah, ultimately we're stumped. I'm not much of a technical or troubleshooting person, and I know a few of you around here dabble in that stuff, so if you have any advice or suggestions on how to fix this, we'd really, really appreciate it. Smiley: frown

When ever I had any problems like that with any games I've played I always went to the extreme and re-formated, Not saying that's what you need to do (I'm no tech myself) but for me was the best way to fix when all else failed.

That looks vaguely like an error one would get from Internet Explorer.

Long shot, but has she installed any recent updates to Win7? Is she running on IE8 or IE9?

You will get this error if Internet Explorer is NOT the latest version, and FFXIV seems to prefer IE being default. Make sure windows update has all available updates because one of the updates had a problem with the launcher, but later fixed via another windows update.

Like it was stated, check IE for updates and run as Admin.

Thanks for the advice, guys, especially the IE stuff. I also had a hunch it was that.

Oddly enough, though, it seems that doing a rollback fixed things in the end. She did a System Restore to back in the middle of September, and for some crazy reason it seems to have fixed whatever was wrong. Maybe some update snuck in that shouldn't have, but at this point who even knows.

So for now we'll just monitor it and see how things go once she's fully patched and trying to play. Thanks again! Smiley: grin
