So I have a question and don't know if anyone has done testing on this yet. Obviously the quests do a very good job of leading you through the early levels, and are very easily soloable. If there is a quest mob multiple people can attack it and get credit, but not full experience. If I want to start at level 1 with my girlfriend is there going to be a significant difference or any barriers if we do the first 15 levels solo vs being in a party together? I know quest/world mobs don't give a ton of experience compared to dungeons, but is it enough that if we split ALL the xp from them up to 15 that we might hit walls at certain points? For instance, only get to 9 and there not being another quest available until 11.

Did anyone go through last weekend in a duo (or more) and notice any stopping points? I got to 13+ without needing to touch leves, not finishing the first hunting log, and not specifically seeking out FATEs but doing them as they came up. If you partied from the start did you find it comparable?

Granted this won't be a huge issue, it will only really affect the first 15 levels of the first class you choose, but come launch it would be nice to know.

I know what you're asking, and I understand the question. I don't have that answer, but if it were me, I would have a blast grouping with my girlfriend and not worrying about the rest. You're a lucky man and I envy you that you were able to get her to play with you. Either way you do it, hope you have fun!

Yes, I am very lucky indeed. I'm not really worried so much as curious, we have very different schedules so when phase 4 hits I'll have a lot more free time than she will. I may end up just grinding a second class or crafting in that extra time.

I'm currently stalled out on the level 10 GLA quest, but I assume that's because I haven't figured it out yet. Smiley: bah I think in the case of those quests, having a second body along would be helpful if not necessary. However, that hasn't stopped me from getting exp.

I used to duo leves with my best friend in 1.0 and that worked at all levels. I'm not sure if ARR has leve-sharing in it, though.

My friend and I grouped up briefly while doing quests and stuff. There was a fairly severe hit to XP in a group of 2 versus solo. It wasn't unmanageable, as we could both kill stuff separately and still get XP (pretty far apart from each other even), but we ended up breaking the party because it didn't really seem worth it. I'd say just get an LS for you 2 or something, then fight stuff together, but not in a party if you want the best efficiency. If you do want to group up, I don't think you'll lag too far behind considering most of the leveling XP is from quests, FATEs, and the hunting log anyways.

I don't think that you will. I'm sure that Party EXP is the same or very close to solo EXP. They sort of have to make it that way with the way soloing and fighting mobs with other people is. I'm in the same boat as you are... as much as I want to just play my main, I think I'm going to reroll and start at level one with my g/f (yay for manthras >.>). I personally think things should go faster being able to kill stuff quicker and not dying as much. Just be sure to go back and do your hunter's logs when you unlock them at lvl 5 (i think). they are a great source of amusement and exp. Participate in any nearby FATEs and leves and you should probably be an even higher level than you would have solo.

I just hate that you are forced to start in a specific city based on job. I believe my g/f will roll CON to start and I don't particularly have any interest in playing ARC or LNC, but I suppose I'll try one out and see how it is.

I don't believe you can do any of the story quests in a party, which sucks pretty bad IMO.

They are going to have to make everything overly party friendly with the way things are solo XD.

Also, Every time I skim and see that Avatar I think "did I post in this thread?" XD.

Dang I thought they were going to change the story/class quests so you could do it in a party. It would have been convenient for us especially, since I'm rolling for SMN and she's rolling for SCH we literally will have the exact same quest path. But yea, I guess with hunting logs and FATEs the party doesn't hurt as much. If she kills something in a hunting log and we're in a party, I assume it counts?

I have done quite a few quests in pt. The exp you get from the mobs is nothing. Maybe 50-100 a kill (and yeah, it's less than that when partied), however, that doesn't affect the quest exp. So, you end up chewing through mobs much faster, and have fun with it. This gets even less significant after you start making 2k+ exp per quest.

The instance fights in the storyline quests are solo until you reach the dungeon raid, and I believe it was said that Job instances would be solo, however, I really hope at least the final fight is pt.

We just got into the habit of breaking pt at instances, fight them, re-party up, and keep going. Most of the quests are either story-board, hunter-gatherer, find-and-retrieve, or simple kill quests. Instance fights are not that frequent.

Maybe you can request that light party 2-4 members xp hit be removed.
Also for the people wanting party mob killing grinds. They could very easily add huge hunting logs or kill 1000 type of X monster quests. The only concern would be people afking and get powerleveled.

But there has to be a solution to that without restricting mob grinding if that is the only reason Yoshi moved away from that.

I bet they could prevent the afk-ing by making it that kills only count to your log completion if you either helped your party members (buff, heal, etc) or hit the mob. Not sure how else, but I like your idea as it could encourage party play some.
