Looks really good, there is one mis-statement,
Quote:
When you start out crafting, you'll just have the one move that will give you some amount of Progress for ten Durability. If you manage to fill the Progress bar before Durability hits zero, you get your item and some crafting XP. If not, you might lose a material or two and go back to the Crafting Log to try again.

Should actually read:

Yes, they actually made it so that if you complete the progress, you succeed, even if your last action brings you to zero!!! That was incredible:).

Cool, thanx! It is awesome that the new gathering and crafting is getting much more love. I still consider myself a miner first, and a pld second:).

Good article. I liked gathering and crafting in 1.x, but it still needed improvement. Looks like the new system should be more interesting than hot and cold. Very helpful info, thanks.

I'd definitely like to find out what's up with the fishing. I've spent many hours just fishing away in XI & XIV 1.0.

Great article. I only got to dabble with Botany to level 4, but what a difference from 1.0. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to try out fishing and culinary.

Looking forward to crafting in this game. The depth of it compared to crafting in other games will give me a greater sense of accomplishment.

I think my favorite part about the new gathering is that as you get areas that have nodes/trees/whatnot that give special bonuses, or it's the fact that ALL unknown items are a base 10% chance to get. I have literally gotten so mad that I couldn't unlock an item to find out what it was that I walked away after 15 minutes of trying for the same item. Then after I finally unlock it, I find out it is something I have an 80% chance of getting now that I know what it is... and I don't even want it.

Seriously, the frustration of that is a love for me. Not that I like the punishment, but that I really had to stick with it. Even if it wasn't something that I wanted.

And the bonus exp for gathering something for the first time makes it worthwhile. Even if I don't want the item, at least I got some exp to go with it.

Unfortunately I can't give the link, but there was an interview from Famitsu on 6/17 where Yoshi is quoted at saying that fishing will be available in phase 4.

We can actually succeed on crafts if our progress reaches 100 and durability goes to 0 in that turn? That is amazing. Was so goddamn frustrating whenever you failed an attempt despite getting to 100 progress.

...To be honest, I could have sworn this was in the game in 1.0 as well. All I know is that when I realized crafting was turn based in Phase 1, I was expecting this result.

If you've got 10 durability left, and your next action completes your progress bar, durability will drop to zero, and the item will be crafted. But, if you have 10 durability left, and you try to increase the HQ meter, durability will drop to zero and you will fail the creation attempt. Actions that use CP but do not drop durability can also be used with only 10 durability left.

It doesn't, because I purposely go to 0 in all of my synths once I get Steady Hand.

Making Hempen Yarn is always Steady Hand -> Basic Touch -> Basic Touch -> Basic Touch -> (Progress button), for example.
