This game offers so much, it's easy to forget sometimes just how much there is.

#3REDACTED, Posted: Jun 13 2013 at 5:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Eh, I really wish they'd have taken another 6 months to a year to polish it up for release. They seem to have quite a bit of work left to do on the gameplay, and that's something you really can't afford to mess up. Not having it in solidly good shape with people singing its praises is going to seriously hamper the launch reception, which could significantly affect the lifespan of the game. It seems like it will probably be fine for a while, but I suspect it wouldn't be in a fully desirable state for most of the audience for another couple of years, by which point no one will give it a second look.

By that logic, no game would ever be released, because they'd be forced into a perpetual state of development as technology and gamer preferences rapidly evolved.

It would be like when I moved to California for my first newspaper job. A big issue in my beat area was a sewage treatment plant that had taken years to complete. It took so long, in fact, that by the time the plant was finished, the town was already exceeding its capacity.

Relax. ARR will be fine!

I think they have ironed out alot so far and were still 2 months out. Yoshi has said if something is horrible they will delay the release. To say it need another 6 months is kinda silly 6 months of what? they think they have it right this time but only way to see is to test. you want 6 more months of beta testing? I think its way better than you seem to think but only tomorrow will tell i guess.

And if they took 6 months to a year you would say the exact same thing, you're something of a contrarian.

The game looks absolutely incredible. I don't think I could possibly have imagined they would be able to turn around the game like they did in such a short time.

Yeah I can't find myself agreeing with Kachi. We're good for the schedule we have, baring actual glitches or bugs that break the game.

Arguing about the mechanics themselves is an eternal debate. There will be those who will argue against the basic mechanics of the game several months down the line, several years even. Every. MMO. Without. Exception. is that way. You will always have your discontent camp.

As long as I can contact an in game moderator to rescue me from ending up stuck somewhere. (like waiting for the boat and falling off and not being able to get out).

Those are the kind of things I don't like in a game.

If this game is like ff11 then the content will just keep rolling out and hopefully improve.

Cheers!

What are you basing your opinion off of? Like, which phase, or gameplay at E3, or what? I don't necessarily disagree, but I'm just waiting until tomorrow's test to judge.

As for the video, it does seem like Cloud's sword is Dragoon specific. Really, really stupid.

As a Dragoon player/FF7 fanatic for life.. I'm very ok with this, lmao.

It looks cool, but it's freakin' stupid. I'm sure they'll eventually add a Great Sword class... they couldn't just save it for that?

I love spears, so it's a little odd that you're playing the spear class and they don't give it an even remotely relevant Limit Break.

Aside from it making no sense on Dragoon, if they wanted this game to be an orgy of cheesy fan service, they should not have named it XIV. I think since it's a numbered title, it should try to do its own thing. It's not Dissidia.

I like Cloud and VII, but I'm trying to immerse myself in this world and suddenly I pull out a freakin' Cloud's Buster Sword on my lance character? Dumb. Sorry.

This is a next-gen Final Fantasy MMO, not your typical numbered title.

I say, let it rain fan service!

if you are keeping your character and level from 1.0, is limit break the only thing you can do other than level other classes?

Fan service for the sake of fan service can be bad, I have yet to see an original idea on this game, everything is taken from everywhere. XI had legs, XIV while looking good, is like a patchwork MMO.

Party limit breaks during battle.

There. Now you can't say you don't know of anything original in ARR.

Who cares what they are called? If they called them "Mana Strikes" would they then be new using your logic?

Also, who cares if they are using tons of things/throw-backs people have enjoyed over the years? Just because you are paying homage to FF tradition, doesn't mean it's not new.

I think it's pretty safe to say that no other game has come out of the gate as slowly and as far behind as XIV did while trying to completely overhaul their game. To be fair, most developers have a much more solid foundation to make changes on and far less adjustments to make.

XI's expansions took over a year to complete. I'd be completely fine with that if the content updates came quicker than every 6 months. Hell, I'd even be ok with 6 month updates as long as there was enough content to keep busy the entire time, but that wasn't the case. It could also be argued whether or not the content improved. I'm almost certain if you took a poll on it, the data wouldn't support that each expansion was better than the next.

Obviously SoA couldn't be included as it hasn't come to an end yet, but I'd bet that the order of popularity(based on content) would be something like:

CoP >= RotZ > ToAU > Abyssea > WotG > ACP/MKE/ASA

RotZ to CoP was really the only clear improvement on the previous expansions. Abyssea and the 3 add-ons shouldn't even qualify as expansions, but content is content I guess.

I'm sure it will be "fine." More development time would only make it better.

The bottom line is that the gameplay would benefit from quite a bit of work. There's a lot of complaint that it's boring, and that's one of the last things you want to hear about a game. I'm not saying that it will fail or suck if it's released as-is. I think that in six months to a year they could refine the gameplay into something that's better than mediocre/poorish. Obviously that won't happen at this point, but the impatience of the playerbase only hurts any MMO. They'd rather have an okay game now than a great one later, and don't see how much more fun they'd have if they just waited for a product that isn't pushed out before it's really ready. Their own worst enemy, really.

You guys are letting the hype get the better of your judgement. You're looking at a couple of months of good personal experiences and apparently forgetting that this game has to entertain for years. Oldest story in the book. Other players will pick up this game and put it down between day 1 and month 3 if the mechanics aren't solid. There is a lot of good stuff here, but there are also a lot of important gameplay things that are going to be rush fixes before the launch that won't even get through the testing cycle, and that's incredibly dangerous. For any game. Period.

I have no doubt that this is the game that SE meant to put out two years ago. What I doubt is that that game wouldn't be going F2P by now.

I didn't think any other MMO had implemented party limit breaks before. If I'm wrong, I'm willing to be corrected.

On a related note, I read somewhere that TESO will be copying ARR and implementing this feature.
