I'm glad that I took the time to level every job in FFXI. I'm a jack-of-all trades kind of fella in RL, and thought I would just take a similar approach to my first MMO. I began as a RDM, and after taking that to 18, and doing the SJ quests, I leveled additional jobs I thought looked fun. With some of the worst advice ever committed to paper, courtesy of the Brady Guide (which I still have) I began to learn each job, experimenting with different job/subjob combinations. Looking back, the vast majority are too embarrassing to mention.
Flash forward to 2005, I re-up and get a new job, new girlfriend and most importantly a new LS. Crack-cocaine is introduced on the mean streets of Bastok, and I'm hooked. I've become completely hooked to the XP. My goal: Maat's Cap. I loved the grind. The horrible PUG's haunt my dreams to this day. Leading parties and changing jobs to fill gaps by members leaving. Learning just enough Japanese/French/Spanish/German to recruit at all hours of the night. Carefully cultivating business relationships with crafters/farmers/NM Hunters via my Friend's List. After all, I was leveling everything as fast as possible. Anyone who played back then should understand how long this took.
I was obsessed.
All of this changed when I started my first of 20 AF Quests. My dreams had, for months, been entirely about FFXI. I was printing off strategy guides for various builds, NM's, party combos, xp spots, to read during my lunch & breaks, when I came across this mysterious place called "Sky". The Holy Grail was rumored to be there. All the Lore that I'd read during the billion cutscenes I had sat thru referenced these "Gods". I had to fight them...and win.
FML. I apologize for that. Its late and I've been drinking a bit.
tldr: Jack of all trades will happen again. I'm hoping that I get just as hooked as I did to FFXI. Male Mi'qote Archer to start then methodically work my way across every class & job until I'm ready to fox with the Holy Grail again. If anyone bothered to read all of that, it is much appreciated.
Cheers
