Now that release is imminent and more information is being released, I'd like to hear what main class/job you folks will be going with and why.

I was dead set on going Archer in 1.xx, but they don't seem to be the heavy hitters that Rangers were in FFXI. I only got her to 30ish so I'll just reroll on a fresh realm. I'm currently leaning toward Arcanist at the moment to have a pet by my side and a nice pathway in to Summoner. Hunter was my main class in WoW because I loved having pets. If they had a ranged beastmaster type job, it would have been a no brainer for me. My main in FFXI was monk, so to mix it up a bit I'll level that on the side since I still love to beat stuff up :)

Mi'qote Arcanist!

Anyway, what will you guys start with?

After discussing with the group I'm going to play the game with, I'm the designated tank. So Gladiator/Paladin it is for me. I really enjoyed PLD in XI, just never had enough luck to level it much higher due to the demand of NIN over PLD at the time. If I can, I'd love to get on Black Mage for fun. The BLM AF looks badass. I'll be making a Female Highlander for sure to roleplay as the main character of my novel. I can't wait!

Well at start i was thinking on going for a whm since i almost always go for a healer in MMO's. But after seeing some really REALLY cool pics from blm i will go that way for sure! My race will be a male lalafell of course!

I'm going to have 2 accounts, 1 will be my 1.0 Legacy character and another new one, both on the same server. My 1.0 character will be for DoW classes and the new one will be for DoM classes. The highest lvl. I have from 1.0 is a 40 Dragoon and I plan to level Guardian and Marauder as well as the jobs for these. My 2nd account will be Arcanist/summoner , Conjurer/WHM and maybe Thaumaturge/BLM. As for DoL & DoH I'll do whatever seems most appropriate for the character.

My reason for splitting it up this way is due to inventory and because I hate having to transfer gear back and forth between mules and retainers. So I'll have all my DoW gear on one character and DoM gear on another. And dual boxing occasionally.

Really looking forward to how Arcanist/summoner will play out the most though. As for races I think I'll redo my 1.0 character to a female Roegadyn and still not too sure about my 2nd character yet.

I'm still not holding out hope that I'll even get that far, but Black Mage, Summoner, and Dragoon have my attention this time around. Will have to see what the playstyle looks like before deciding.

Also, observe the role between thematic appeal and interest, and consider the relationship between playstyle and actual enjoyment. This kind of dissonance is a common cause for players to leave a game.

Female Roegadyn. Archer to Bard. I'll be full timing Bard, probably. (It's a living.)

I'll keep my legacy THM/BLM around and may even finishing leveling her to 50.

I guess it depends on how some of the Jobs play. I was a WHM and Monk in FFXI so I like the rolls they have but with the amount of Solo you have the option of doing I might want a job that can hold its own in a tough fight. Like THF, NIN, PLD, RDM, in FFXI (pre Dancer). I want to be able to do that since my time will be much shorter to help a LS.

I think I will stay BRD to Damage Deal and Assist the party (I really liked bejing a WHM in FFXI) and then dependin on what DD can stand alone as a great fighter, I will go that route too. However I think I will be leveling all the jobs over time. In FFXI I had a few and just ran with that, then again FFXI leveling after 60 was INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Pre-Abysea)

I don't know. Probably a Fem Miquote MNK like in 1.0. Maybe Archer, or maybe Lancer...most likely MNK though...

I sound like a broken record, but I want to see if they sneak a THF class/job at release, but that's just wishful thinking on my part, lol.

Pretty sure ill star with mrd/war, much like I did in ffxi. I had a 50 gld in 1.0, but I'm starting fresh so I will prob give that a go also. I'm honestly planning to level most classes as I'd really like to be as versatile as possible.

I'm sticking with my character from 1.0 (21 GLA/11 LNC/ 6 MNK) and the first job I'm going for is Dragoon.

I have to really spend more time thinking about this one....I mainly play RDM on FFXI and love it however; I always wonder what it would be like to be more of a main rather than support in a party.

We will see; by nature I tend to go towards Mage as it suits who I am in real life; a support person that likes to quietly help others.

Decisions....decisions.

Well i can't say for certain that a mage is quiet...cause a mage is the class that the phrase "sh*t just got real" fits. In most games can deploy "massive" dps but of course its weak in defense. That is why i like em personally.

Yes, but you keep your stats, unless you start over from level 1.

I do not plan on playing on one class/job, but instead I wish to level them all and not really main anything. I am going to sacrifice specialization for one job for adaptability.

But my first job/class I will be is Gladiator -> Paladin so I can be a tank for my friends who will be playing with me. I think I will also level Archer -> Bard at the same time, because it looks interesting in this game.

I think I had my cnj up to 20 in 1.0, so I'll eventually get that to 50, but I think I'm goin to focus on the blm route this time around. I might remain elezen, but not too sure about race yet.

When I started playing FFXI I chose to level all available jobs to 10 then made a commitment from there. I will most likely take a similar approach. I despised crafting in XI, but the system for XIV looks more engaging. Becoming a culinarian might help with making dough (pun), and fishing could be fun as it allowed a little down time or something to do while waiting.
