Hey I participated in alpha/beta for FFXIV, pre ordered and purchased the game, even paid for a couple months when they started charging. Did I miss some application I had to fill out or something? I feel like I'm entitled to a better chance at beta for ARR.

You're a legacy player only if you paid for, I believe, three consecutive months of service after a certain date (which I think was January of 2012).

If you never paid a monthly sub for the game, you are not a legacy player.

Go to your SE account > XIV service > Look for Legacy Icon/service.

It should say on your account status if you are Legacy or not... my authenticator is upstairs so I can't verify that.

It was 90 days of cumulative not consecutive sub.

I need to put a link to my token post about how to tell, but these guys have done it for me. You'll see it when you log in to your SE account management and select the FFXIV service.

What does a Legacy account actually guarantee anyway? It looks like they don't have enough beta testers to begin with.

9.99 /month for life with 40 character slots (8 per server max)

Regular price is 14.99 for the same.

You get special choco, beta access from start, extra prizes, special item/tat or something when ARR launches. Among other planned things :)

Perhaps a sticky post is in order?

Maybe but those who have it, know they have it. Additionally, Legacy Status seems to start board wars everywhere its talked about. I would let this die to avoid the pointless arguing again, but will inevitably show its face so it might as well be here...

Legacy Status will break the game... /sa "Troll Attack" <FFXIV Forum-Zam.com> Smiley: rolleyes

I thought I read on the official forums somewhere there are something like 10-15,000 legacy members. I can't remember where the estimate came from though. They plan on having 10-15 servers for the beta, so if you figure 2-3k per server, that gives you an idea of what they're expecting for beta testing.

What wounds me more is that this picture uses Zero Punctuation art in a manner Yahtzee would not agree with in the slightest (if you knew how he felt about MMOs in general). I think I understand the concept of "sacrilegious" now.

Oh ok thanks. Bummer I was $14.99 shy of being considered worthy it seems. Seems silly, but rules are rules.

9.99 vs 14.99 is a big jump but thats what u get when ur really a "founder" of a game .

People who subbed once it was up helped build the game . I might have missed the boat but im glad alot of ppl didnt because if there was no legacy memebers there would be no ARR.

So either way we are all reaping benefits non legacy get what looks like a amazing game and Legacy members got to invest in the game and they get a "bonus" I dont see why people can have hard feelings about it.

What about the people who bought the SEs and especially the CEs who kept FFXIV alive for over a year before the legacy members did anything?

What about the people who are new to FFXIV who will be starting this year who if they didn't FFXIV would fail and your legacy membership would be nothing more than a bad memory?

I don't mind that SE did something nice for the people who paid for a sub during 1.0; it was a great idea. But, the way some people let that go to their heads is repulsive. I never knew anyone who bought a CE who treated those who didn't with such arrogance as some legacy members go to great lengths to. I just don't see where this gross sense of entitlement comes from. Everyone who plays is equally welcome in my eyes.

I have a feeling they'll drop subscription costs for non-legacy. They won't attract new players once they learn they'll be asked to pay more than their friends. Other MMOs don't do that, and, as many threads on the official forums have shown, justified or not, people get mad when asked to pay more for something than other people.

For all the people who (rightly) criticize lifetime subscriptions as "cash grabs" that no firm that was feeling good about their product would do, what does legacy look like? Same thing--if SE felt good about its product, it wouldn't have offered a lifetime reduced fee to its most likely-to-subscribe customers for, what, $45 bucks (plus you get access to the game for that period)? If you play for 5 years, that's $300 they lose out on.

Thing is, "founder's pricing" is not a new concept.

$15/month is what people expect a subscription-based MMO to cost. New customers aren't paying more for it, the legacy players are just paying less. This is nothing new, and people who are getting their undies in a twist over it haven't been paying attention and need to get over their indignation.

I'm not a legacy player btw, and I have absolutely no problem with paying the normal amount for a sub-based MMO even if some other people get discounts.

My point was that between the hours of suffering I endured looking for bugs in their alpha/beta (yes I did, no I didn't just goof around), even more hours enduring the trash that was FFXIV, and the $80 that I gave them (bought game for full price new + 2 months sub); I don't really see the huge separation.

Everyone that bought the original FFXIV does get ARR client for free. Everyone wins, just at different degrees.

Besides, they will have an open beta in Phase 3 and 4. It's not like they're not trying to win you back. Also, imagine how the PS3 players must feel.

I'm not implying that they're trying to win me back and the PS3 players never spent a dime, so I'm not really sure what that has to do with anything. I'm just saying that it's a bummer those of us who came just short were shut out of the legacy benefits. It's not SE's fault, I just wasn't paying attention to the headlines enough to know about the system until recently.

If SE did anything wrong it's their assumption that everyone is following news on the forums. I don't know if I remember an email announcement or not for the Legacy program, but it seems like they rely almost exclusively on their forums to communicate anything.
#24 Feb 24 2013 at 4:51 PM Rating: Good
I'm pretty sure I got an email announcing the Legacy campaign, but I agreed to get stuff from SE on my SE account.
