Casual FFXIV'er confused... WTFFollow

Excuse my noobish-ness here but, is FFXIV completely down until A Relm Reborn launches sometime later this year? (unless you are awarded Beta privileges)
We can't even play the original game? I see the banner on Lodestone that says "World Servers are Offline".
I assume all billing has been suspended as well... ?

They stopped billing in October I believe, or even September.

They had been keeping the existing 1.0 servers up but as soon as active logins fell below a certain percentage the decision was made to bring them offline. Your progress after November wouldn't have been saved anyway, so it's not like logging in would have had much of a point.

Don't mind duo, he doesn't play well with others.

2.0 A Realm Reborn isn't really a sequel, it's a unique remaking of the original game. Any plot you missed will be retold in 2.0 through backstory.

i believe i asked about the sequel thing and from how the story goes it technically is a sequel. It follows on from the previous sequence of events.

Are we going to argue about what makes something a sequel now?

It's an mmo, and some of the content is no longer available. It's not a new game, therefore, it cannot be a sequel.

If we are to be truly nerdy, we must argue over inconsequential semantics. It matters!

I don't think anyone can get into the official forums.

I assume the alpha testers and now the beta testers had/will have access, though.

I can get into the official forums just fine.

Well since I can't ask there, I'm wondering if anyone has any other info on this...

Quote:
・Phase 1: Windows PC
Core Systems Rebalancing
・Phase 2: Windows PC
Gamepad Control Adjustments
・Phase 3: Windows PC & PlayStation®3
Global Testing and Version 1.0 Character Data
Import Testing
・Phase 4: Windows PC & PlayStation®3
Open Testing

Will gamepad be implemented in phase 1 for us Legaciers? I see 'gamepad adjustments' which leads me to believe it will be in phase 1, just adjusted if need be in phase 2. Course theres people who are adamant that it wont be there until phase 2, just wondering.

You may want to take a look at the more thorough roadmap that Square-Enix put out a couple weeks ago:
http://gdl.square-enix.com/ffxiv/download/en/FFXIV_2.0_BETA_Roadmap_EN.pdf

Phase 2 is when they say, specifically, gamepad control will be implemented. There is no mention whatsoever of preferential or advanced gamepad implementation for Legacy accounts.

You might keep trying. I had gotten that message after I hadn't visited in several days and it worked the second time I tried.

But it wouldn't be the internet if we didn't argue over stupid things :(
