I feel odd reading all of this.

I was one of the very 1st people (59-212 people on cerberus server after maintenance) that got their npc.

1st call I clicked it and it vanished.

Haven't been keeping track of calls but I'm asuming I've called it 5-7 times since I was able to change weapons a while ago.

Gave it an uchigatana in attacker mode today and headed out to eastern altepa desert. Stayed right at the tele pad and fought all the ants that popped there as 54RDM/BLM - Easy Prey for me.

He used Tachi: Enpi, Hobaku, and Goten. I basically just followed up for Distortion or Liquification.

I cast protect III and shell II on both of us and also Haste on both of us.

We were gaining tp at the same rate. Sometimes he would be faster since I had to recast buffs during the fight.

All in all I loved the experience I had with my NPC today. She lasted about 40 mins and then had to go. New gloves and boots looks like. But she's still level 30!

I even whipped her out in a party with 5 PC's. We were gaining good xp at lvl 12 but then again maybe the npc needs xp to level also since it's lvl 30 but capped down to 12.

All I know if that she keeps changing armor but isn't getting any levels for some reason. I'll try the desert tomorrow just like I did today and hope she levels.

If not then I'll still have fun :D

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ; ;
Two days ago i throw away the pearl, but Luto does not say anything to give me another one!!!! why?
#480 Jul 29 2005 at 9:20 PM Rating: Decent
To get another pearl you must go to the rondevous point. Your NPC will give you one there ^_^

rondevous point??
where is that? ('v')?

go left as soon as you enter ru lude gardens, you'll see it on the ground.

Where do you take your NPC after altep, and when?

Someone informed me that they found a marker on the ground that gave their NPC new gear or an upgrade, Can anyone confirm this?? I think he just got new armor for using his NPC & didn't realize it.

I think you mean the Rondevouz point <G10> in Ru'lude gardens. There you can talk to him, change his fighting style and after level 37 i believe have him change his head gear.

Weapons can be changed by talking the the quest giver in upper juneo. Check in with her every now and then to see wht she has to say.

Hope this helps you.

Oh I just went to the Rondevouz point to get marker number for above poster and decided to check.

I now have the Change appearances option. I am level 36 and earlier I checked when I got back from partying with him and I didnt have the option.

I told him to find something know then said goodbye. Then reclicked the option and he's wearing something that looks like cotton headgear for level 23 whm etc. has def 9.
Or it could be headgear for level 11, def 5. Know way of knowing.

Intersting.

lololololol

whats funny is you can have your NPC wearing impossable equipment cominations - this leads me to believe what others have guessed, that the NPC's job is "NPC" not war or rdm etc - no real job at all, just a generic that can wear all armor and has some preset abilities. My NPC is wearing seers tunic (whm blm and smn!) with (drumroll) Centurion's Greaves (whm blm and smn can't equip!).

Go to http://web.mit.edu/fastcart/Public/FFXI/mugido/ for more information and screen shots. It's also more humorous.

--- Day 01 --- July 19th, 2005
Stood in Eldieme Necropolis and Ghelsba Outpost lines three times to get the NPC I wanted. I logged in as soon as the game would let me. When I first got in line, there were 40 people in line in Ghelsba Outpost and 634 on the entire server of Midgardsormr. When I reached the front exactly two hours later, there were 84 in zone, and 913 on /sea all. Two more runs and ten hours later, and I got the Mugido (Galka 3B) I wanted.

--- Day 02 --- July 20th, 2005
I figured out how to use Rendezvous Points. I took Mugido out to Konschtat Highlands with my level 15 Red Mage because I was under the mistaken impression NPCs only get xp if we do. We only killed easy preys and got 300 xp. I was shocked when he disappeared because it had only been ten minutes.

At the Rendezvous Point, I saw that he got were new pants and boots.

--- Day 03 --- July 21st, 2005
As soon as engaged my first mob, i got R0 and lost connection. ;; The beginning of my Verizon problems that a lot of people experienced.

--- Day 04 --- July 22nd, 2005
Started xping in Zi'Tah. Actually counted kills and learned he despawned after 15 kills. Mugido got new gloves, body piece, and pants.

After this call, new features were unlocked at the Rendezvous Point. I chose Attacker, TP alert, and HP alert.

--- Day 05 --- July 23rd, 2005
Mugido got level 31. I learned the drop pearl trick from the forums. I was able to call Mugido three times this day and got him to level 32. Also, I got a cut scene from Luto Mewrilah and bought a Butterfly Axe for Mugido. When I gave it to Luto, Luto called Mugido a she. ;;

--- Day 06 --- July 24th, 2005
Mugido seemed to needed to skill Great Axe. After the first session of this day, he got Leaping Boots or Winged Boots. He still missed a lot. I accidentally clicked him for the first time, but re-clicked before he despawned. After second session, he got level 33, but went back to Scale Mail.

--- Day 07 --- July 25th, 2005
After first session, there was no visible change in gear.

Second session, I started partying with a Thief named Edgetheninja (AKA Edge) and his NPC named Nanako. We fought level 51-55 Goblin Bouncer and Goblin Hunter near Ifrit's Cauldron. Mugido attained level 34 and upgraded his body piece to Doublet (level 11), Cotton Doublet (level 23), or Linen Doublet (level 33). His gloves changed too.

--- Day 08 --- July 26th, 2005
After first session, Mugido went back to Scale Mail again. I was beginning to think it was because I keep dropping the Signal Pearl, but it seems random. While fighting our second mob, Edge Tricked Attacked onto Nanako, gave Nanako hate and she died. ^^

Second session, Mugido got level 35, Centurion Gauntlets and Centurion Greaves. Unfortunately, he also got Subligar... ;;

--- Day 09 --- July 27th, 2005
First session, Mugido got rid of the Subligar (thank Altana).

Second session, we added a Black Mage named Omiss and his NPC named Armittie. Unfortunately, we tried to train too many mobs for Omiss to nuke and we all died (more info and screen shots at my website). A wasted session. ;; But, we ll got Raise III.

But, Luto gave me the second weapon upgrade cut scene. I gave Mugido a Greataxe. Luto still called him she.

--- Day 10 --- July 28th, 2005
We got another Black Mage named Btaru and his NPC named Raka. We successfully pulled off nuke-Ra this time. No PCs died this time. But, Bomb Tosses killed Nanako and Raka. ;;

Mugido got level 36 and went back to Doublet armor again. He also got either Chain Hose (level 24) or Silver Hose (level 36).

Second run, we got Chain #7 once with no NPCs or PCs dying. Then we got chain #6 and our NPCs despawned. Mugido went back Leaping or Winged Boots.

--- Day 11 --- July 29th, 2005
First run, No Black Mages this day. Edge and I tried to kill Goblin Reapers and Goblin Diggers fast to make up for the lack of a Black Mage. Unfortunately, these are level 41-45, so we got less xp than usual. Mugido got RSE body piece. ;;

Second run, we went back to Goblin Bouncers and Goblin Hunters. They were a little suicide bomb happy and nearly killed our NPCs. Mugido got level 37, Lizard Jerkin, and Greaves (level 24) or Silver Greaves (level 36).

--- Day 12 --- July 30th, 2005
First run, nothing exciting. Edge and I tried to fast chain off of Goblin Robbers, Master Coeurls, and Big Jaws. While they died quickly, avoiding Goblin Traders slowed us down. So, we went back to Bouncers and Hunters. At the Rendezvous Point, Centurion Greaves and either Chainmail (level 24) or Silver Mail (level 36).

He got level 38 during the second run. At the Rendezvous Point, he got the Greaves (level 24) or Silver Greaves (level 36) back.

But, there was an extra dialog at the bottom of the Rendezvous Point menu. It said, "Let's talk about appearances" (see website for pictures). This gave me the option of letting him have headgear. I said yes, summoned him again at the Rendezvous Point, and he had on a Faceguard (level 10). When I asked him to change it, I couldn't tell whether he had some kind of hairpin or nothing at all. When I asked him to change it a third time, he had the Faceguard on again. So, I kept it at that.

--- Day 13 --- July 31st, 2005
A boring first run. Same ole, same ole. After the run at the Rendezvous Point, looked like Mugido had a Scale Greaves retrograde, but a Cuisses (level 40, if that's what they really are) upgrade. Too bad the head gear is so ugly. Once again, I tried making him change it. But, I couldn't tell whether he had a hairpin or nothing again. So, it's back to Faceguard.

For the second run, we decided to try Xarcabard. The demons were so much easier and quicker to kill. And, because I play Samurai, I intimidated them a lot. We only killed regular demons and left the Evil Eyes alone. We found a new xp spot now. He got level 39.

Mugido still had the Faceguard, but got some gawd awful pants and feet gear. I don't know what kind of pants (if any) or gloves (could be level 1 RSE) he's wearing. The shoes are Garish Pumps (level 30), Mist Pumps (level 30), or Mannequin Pumps (level 35). They could also be Seer's Pumps, but it's hard to tell. They are definitely pumps in an case. ;;

--- Day 14 --- August 1st, 2005
First run, more demons. We tried an Evil Eye, it casted Bind on me and it stuck! So, no more Evil Eyes. We kill the regular demons fast enough anyway. At the Rendezvous Point, Mugido looked pants-less with level 1 RSE boots.

Second run, he got level 40. After the run he had different boots and pants (thank Altana). I tried switching his headgear again to no avail. I talked with Luto in Jeuno, and nothing new there.

This was all before the maintenance.

--- Day 15 --- August 2nd, 2005
I only did one run today. And, I did it solo because of POL problems. I am not sure whether this is dumb luck or SE improved them NPC AI. At first, Mugido and I were using weapon skills at the same time unless I managed to see his tp warning amid combat spam. Then, he started using weapon skills after me. We did Sidewinder > Armor Break for Impaction. Then, we did Sidewinder > Iron Tempest for Distortion.

Mugido lasted for 20 kills. This must be what SE meant in yesterday's announcement by "After certain conditions are met, players will be able to keep their Fellowship NPC around for extended adventuring." Seems to be based on the NPC's level. I'm not sure whether it's linear (an extra kill every two levels) or if there's some SE voodoo magic involved.

He went back to pumps at the Rendezvous Point. They look like Brais (level 11) or Cotton Brais (level 23). No luck changing his head gear again. I hope I'm not resetting something (a la voodoo) every time I try...

I went through this entire thread and didn't find complete weapon upgrade info so...

These are from ffxio:
Quote:

These are the weapons Luto will accept after the first five or six (could be more, could be less) calls:
Cesti (level 1) (Hand-to-Hand)
Bronze Knife (level 1) (Dagger)
Xiphos (level 7) (Sword)
Claymore (level 10) (Great Sword)
Bronze Axe (level 1) (Axe)
Butterfly Axe (level 5) (Great Axe)
Bronze Zaghnal (level 1) (Scythe)
Harpoon (level 1) (Polearm)
Kunai (level 1) (Katana)
Uchigatana (level 12) (Great Katana)
Ash Club (level 1) (Club)
Ash Staff (level 1) (Staff)

Note: Trying to trade two Kunai (katana) for dual weild will not work. The NPC will just use a Kunai and a shield.

These are the second set of weapon upgrades Luto will accept after the first twelve (could be more, could be less for some people) calls:
Bronze Knuckles (level 5) (Hand-to-Hand)
Bronze Dagger (level 1) (Dagger)
Bronze Sword (level 1) (Sword)
Two-Hand. Sword (level 20) (Great Sword)
Brass Axe (level 8) (Axe)
Greataxe (level 12) (Great Axe)
Brass Zaghnal (level 10) (Scythe)
Bronze Spear (level 7) (Polearm)
Wakizashi (level 7) (Katana)
Tachi (level 8) (Great Katana)
Bronze Hammer (level 5) (Club)
Ash Pole (level 5) (Staff)

Note: Same deal with Wakizashi (katana) as Kunai for dual weild. The NPC will just use a Wakizashi and a shield. Yes, some of the second stage weapons are retrogrades as oppose to upgrades.

Dinged 37 for my NPC today. Feels good. He was wearing new armor before the outing. Still has the headgear on from yesterday.

I noticed that on me he only uses spells that you can use outside of a party setting. Shell2 insead of sheltra2. Cure3 instead of curaga for the 2 of us.

I'm wondering if the NPC can't erase me cause he's not actually in my party. If so, there's a lot of spells I wont be getting, like all of the bar- spells. Just a hunch. Something to keep an eye on. Time will tell.

I'm not a mage so I'm not sure, but I think my NPC is wearing a seer's crown. Also, the session before she started wearing the crown, I died (for some reason every antican in the area aggroed me at once) so you don't have to complete the session by killing 15 mobs in order for it to count.

If you cant ride a chocobo there you cant summon your NPC. That should be a simple enough answer for you either way.

The answer is four replies above your question. ^^

Actually, that's not always accurate. You can't ride a chocobo in Xarcabard, Beaucedine Glacier, or Ro'Meave, but you can call your NPC there.

Err... OP says...

Me and vinja treked this time to xarcabard in attempt to get him to level 32...

You show me how to get a chocobo to Xarcabard and I'll say you're right. 8)

The rule of thumb is more "you can't summon the NPC in any zone that Escape would work in." I *assume* this means terrigan and valley of sorrows would work, but I have not tried them.

I have been asking this question a lot on other threads and have never been answered. Then I came across this monsterous thred ^^. Do you have to gain xp for your NPC to level? Or can i take my 66 RDM to the jungle and just slaughter stuff to level her?

Also, do they gain the same XP as you? I know this is hard to "measure" but i was wondering if anyone could give me a few pointers on leveling my NPC. I have been taking my 32 SAM to Qufim and duoing EPs with her every day but after 12 calls she has never leveled (never died either).

Please help me out as I am not sure how much this will pay off. I have been duoing with the NPC every day for the last two weeks with no great results (other than new armor and a lvl 1 scyth), how are you guys getting them to level 37 and beyond so fast?

Hope this info helps:

I have 2 PC characters and got NPC's for both. One I leveled with a 30th character. We fought easy and decent cons for three calls. No deaths, no level up.

Then the other one I took with my 71st whm and basically power leveled her on IT mobs for her level. Basically Saghins in yhtungle jungle near SSG zone. During the 2nd to last battle of the 3rd call, she leveled up to 31.

So it seems, you guys are NOT in a party, and she needs to kill stuff that are to IT to her to level up faster. IT ++ if you can manage it and stuff with no aoe so she doen't get blow to pieces.

Not sure if their going to change it with the next update. Seems SE is still tweaking...
