i dunno if this has been posted, but you cannot call your NPC in lufaise meadows, i tried it and wouldn't call, pretty sure its' the same with misereaxe coast. Maybe it's cause it's a vortex area, i dunno.

Yeah it was discussed elsewhere (probably in this thread too) that you cannot call the NPC in any zone that is accessed after a mission (ie. the zones around Tavnazia, and Ru'Aun Gardens).

After getting to level 40 NPC, I have been able to predict which fight my NPC will level on. I decide which level mobs to fight based on assuming that NPC is "in" a party with you and that they get exp based on what a duo pt of their level would get on that parcticular mob. For level 30-45, fighting mobs 5+ levels above will give 200 exp per fight, so I've made sure to always fight things at least 5 levels above Cupapa. Second, I believe that the NPCs need the same amount of exp per level that PCs would. Tonight Cupapa leveled on the 33rd fight from level 39 -> 6600 exp, 6700 being the total tnl to level 40. I assume that she had 100+ exp left over from dinging to 39. Even if my assumptions on the duo party exp rate are wrong, it can't hurt at least, I know she would have to be getting at least 200 exp per fight.

Last observation -> uleguerand range is the highest level area that an NPC can get exp in (I think). I predict someday people will seek for NPC leveling pts as the NPCs approach the high 60s/low 70s, since espcially mage job types (no, not you crazy rdms...) would struggle to survive much less make it through 15 fights in any decent amount of time. Also, since I remain a devout pearl dropper even after the update, I can vouch that it doesn't effect their exp. My NPC is attacker, idk if that would unlock headgear option or if that's healer type only, but I haven't noticed any new options in a while, suggesting that pearl dropping causes backslides in that aspect of NPC upgrading. Also, her gear was improving improving... looked like full Noct. gear (awesomeness!) and then today she randomly decided to pull out the scale mail -.- So I don't think dropping pearl affects gear... she seems to spite me whenever I get excited about what she's wearing ;;

Mooch, I was running an experiment on doing the dropping pearl trick. I have so far went out 3 times with no pearl drop and have yet to see the "armor" option again. He has done a flip flop on armor as well. Currently my npc is lvl 43 with 39 kills toward his next level. He should ding next go round. Hopefully he will stay out 20 kills next time, and maybe get "armor" option back.

NPC got to level 41. Been fighting in West Altepa. She has every option open to this date and seems to level every 2 outings. The max time limit is 55 minutes, how do I know?, well even though SE said in the last update that there would not be a timelimit and that a NPC would stay a certain number of fights, they lied. I fight with my 75 PLD, skilling up my GS everytime. So my fights do not go to quick with a PLD using a low level weapon on beetles out there. I usually get around 18-19 fights in, but right at 55 minutes each time, she says "well it is getting late, see you around" wether we are mid battle or not.

My question is, around level 32 I got option for new weapon in a CS from Luto. Gave my NPC a level 1 Bronze Zhangal (scythe). At about level 35 I was offered in a CS a chance to upgrade, and gave her a level 10 Brass Zhangal. My NPC is now 41, Luto has not offered another upgrade, but can I just trade her a higher level scythe now and will it work? or must I wait for another CS from Luto for my next upgrade?

I'd say keep checking with Luto til she says something.

My NPC is level 32 now and has been using her second weapon upgrade for a while (two handed sword).
Since I'm not that high level myself, she doesn't level fast.
So it seems weapon upgrades are session based and not level based.

Proroc, the way I understand it you can switch weapons at any time after the cut scene by trading them to Luto, its just a matter of what set of weapons you use. If you've already had the second cut scene, you should be able to go to her and trade for example the Scythe from the second set of weapons. You don't get the weapons you traded before back, but you can change them to whatever type you want as often as you want.

NPC level 42 problably 43 the next time out, no changes. 55 minutes each outing.

I'm speculating that at some point we will be sent again to fight something. I'm also speculating that we can bring 2 other ppl with us, making it a 6 person fight.

Not sure if my npc will say goodbye after that, so I wont be the first one to go into the fight to test my theory.

NPC dinged 44 last night.

FINALLY after 4-5 outings without dropping pearl, got my 20 kill per outing back, and my "appearances" when talking to npc at RP.

I was dropping pearl after update. Did it about 3 times. Lost my 20 kills and "appearance" after dropping pearl the first time, due to npc relationship worsened.

RambustheRDMtaru: Go kill beetles in east alltep. Look up mobs that are 6-7 levels higher than your npc to kill. They will be IT+ to your npc and he/she will get primo exp pts. If you can't kill these proficient in a timely manner, get someone to go with you. I usually take a friend or two that wants to lvl npc's as well.

Dinged 43. No changes. Still 55 minutes. I like the attacker mode best so far for me because with his great axe he does great damage. I can keep hate as long as I cast high magic at start.

Looks like he levels every other outing.

As far as I have figured out, just use your weapon skill first to let your NPC know what you will be using. Next time she/he will use a weaponskill of her/his own that will allow you to skillchain with the WS you indicated.

ok this how it works. if you tell her to call when she is ready this is how they act.

if you have under 50% tp they solo.

if you have over 50% but under 100% they call thier tp " ready to go bring it on" or something like that. they use ws when you have 100% and your expected to follow.

if you have over 100 tp before the npc does the npc will use ws without warning and your expected to follow.

at least this si what my npc pattern is.I am not sure if relationship effects this at all

45 wow where and what are you leveling on? My NPC is 37 so I am still in east altep blowin up anticans....

BTW, I have seen this post a lot, about reverting to scale mail. What people keep forgetting is that Steam Scale Mail (lvl 27) looks exactly the same as the level 10 set. So they could actually be upgrading.

I've been leveling him on beetles and anticans in western altepa. Mainly killing anticans now, being they are a few there that are still 6 levels above my npc.

I try to kill mobs that are 6+ levels to my npc to keep the primo exp pts rolling in.

My Npc is lvl 38 healer with a tachi. i went with my samurai/thief 75 to zi'tah and kill gobbue. i tried to line up with my npc between the gobbue and me, with both the npc and me behind the gobbue's back. i SATA, tachi gekko, and then npc got hate.

she tanked for 2 hits, said something like" ergh.. this seems too tough for me." and she got killed by gobbue's uppercut lmao.

ur npc is SATA-able.

SE said that your NPC will leave if you zone or log, but I can confirm that she will also leave if you D/C

Just my own thoughts on the weapon upgrades, since no one else seems to have suggested it:

Maybe the main purpose of the weapon upgrades isn't to get high-level weapons but to help you select the skill chains you do with you NPC. By offering 2 upgrades opportunities (or more), that might also let you change the look and increase the damage.

Definitely keep the posts coming. I'm eager to hear how things are going for the faithful players that have been working their NPCs out every day since the very beginning. I'm only on day 6 and just got the option to trade weapons last night.
