Took him out today. Did not cast erase on me and he's level 39. He's gymped.

Anyway. He stayed out for 55 minutes. And as a healer, I have to say he's slowing me down cause he asks to rest. I'm wondering if I'll get penalized for not resting so I can fight more mobs.

NPC staying out for 20 fights. lvl 37 (yay subjob maxed lol). im 68thf and i slaughter the gigas mobs in the northeast corner of xarcabard. they have AOE ground stomp (or something like that) and frontal AOE (i think). as long as i dont stand close to my npc, we dont need to rest. This is starting to get WAY TOO FUN!! lol... she pulled hate off me once.. but that was a minute or so after an 'extra strong' assassin trick attack i did. i also let my npc do the finishing blow, dunno if that even matters :P my gilfinding abilities net me 150-280 gil per kill and the tiger pets dont count as kills (nor xp?)

o.o semi long long post i didnt think i had THAT much to say. R8^ to most (yes plz)

Why does SE have to ruin everything they come up with that has potential? the NPC Buddy was doing a spectacular job...the first couple times I took her out she'd cure my paralysis, blindness ect. ect. before I even knew I had it. And I'd never fall into the orange. It was awesome...

Now that SE has 'updated thier behavior' she never cures my status ailments, she silences snippers O.o, and when I beat a T and am resting in the red, within seconds she's full on MP, suggesting she's not doing her job...

I doubt SE did much, if anything to this particular aspect of their behavior. Mine acted the exact same way before and after the update. It seems random.

NPCs cannot be summoned in any area that requires you to clear another area before beating. i.e. Sky, Sea, Lufaise Meadows, etc.

Dinged 40.

Got hasted during party. Downside is npc needs to rest more now. Probably not worth it to me. Decided to change to attacker style and see if I can keep hate and not waste mp healing him.

I dropped my pearl immediately after the last patch and lost the "appearances" option, which I had had for a couple days. Today, after three more sessions, I got it back. This makes me think that requesting a new pearl will cost you between five and ten leveling sessions worth of relationship points. I would say seven or eight.

Dinged level 41. I changed his job to Attack. Since I can keep hate he doesn't need to be healed. And since he's not casting magic, he doesn't have to rest for mp.

No down time.

That's pretty cool. I'm glad to see that the Healer types get some nice firepower, so to speak, to make up for the lack of damage and weaponskill use of the Fighter type.

Does anyone know if the Shield mode NPCs are worth it at all? Do they get anything besides Provoke, and probably better defense?

Ok im prolly an idiot for asking this but i will give it a shot anyway

Does it matter what the mob cons to you or cons to your NPC?

Cuz if that is the case i can just go out to areas that were IT to me at 30 and just have my NPC gain all kinds of xp. Thanks for all replies

Mine got to level 32 today (3rd fight of 5th session). I've only used the pearl-drop trick once, and that was before the update. What I'm finding odd is that on the fourth session (yesterday) she only stayed for 13 fights, and today only for 12 fights (about 20-25 minutes). Fighting spiders, beetles, anticans and dhalmels in East Altepa. I keep her cured, I try to rest periodicly, etc, just not sure what I'm doing wrong. When she leaves, she says, "Wow! I'm exhausted! I gotta go now! Bye!"

She's currently in attacker mode. While I've got her set to let me know when she has TP ready, the only time she's ever said anything is the one time she got to 100% before I did. Seems to instead just use the weaponskill when ready and I follow it up to close the skillchain.

And finally, checking her again at the Rendezvous Point, she doesn't seem to have changed any of her armor. Mercenary Captain's Doublet is the only piece I recognize.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Anyone else had problems with Hide while leveling your NPC?

I took mine out to Altepa since she hit 35 and Evil Weapons in Sauromouge Champain are getting a little low. Had a gob link with the one we were fighting and I didn't want to fight it without resting since as THF50/NIN25 they're not all that easy. I used Hide and got rid of the second gob but my NPC wandered around like she was lost or something. She wouldn't rest when I did and just looked rather confused. Eventually she wandered off with the gob that had linked and I had to go run over near her and attack something else to get her to come back.

Don't know if anyone else has seen this or maybe it was just a glitch and I'm unlucky.

has anyone else's NPC reverted back to old armor like scale mail? Mine started with scale, like usual, then went to Lizard armor. eventually she started to get what looked like Iron Plate Mail. however, after using this, i checked her at the Redezvous Point and she was in scale!?!? She hadn't died the last time, and i hadn't used the pearl drop trick since the update. After leveling her for a while, she got back into Iron Plate, but then bam! Back to scale! She's in almost full scale mail right now, i have no idea why. Does this happen to anyone else? where there npc reverts to old armor after having upgraded?

Yes my NPC seems to change into whatever armor she feels like wearing at the time. She hasn't died since the second time I called her which was a long time ago. She just hit 35 and she's wearing scale armor again. I don't think the armor really does anything for them other than for appearance because she does't seem to take any more or less damage no matter what she's wearing.

Want to keep this bumped, I'm eager to find out more... like if eventually they stay out for more than 20 kills, or what new options may open up yet. I love this feature, makes casual play much more rewarding. ^_^
I have mostly been playing with my Samurai which is level 17 now, hoping that since Pimy was level capped with me she would still get some xp too... I'll stick to this for a while and let you know if she still eventually levels. I have seen her change from scale to level 40 plate, then back to lizard, but I feel its all for looks too, she still takes hits all the same. Figure the weapons you trade in are the same in essense... just a way of guiding her in what type of weapon to use.

My NPC dinged 31 in about 10-11 sessions, not sure (didnt keep count) in Battalia Down a while back, the last three sessions have been in Altepa and Yuhtunga Jungle, mainly killing Gobs. She has yet to ding 32..is it random? I feel as if I'm doing something wrong ;;

I noticed switching my npc to a healer type leveled her much faster. Before hand when she dinged 31 she had been shield/attacker. Took a couple days to reach 31. Then I switched her to healer and in two sessions she reaches 32.

"Don't think so... try to cast Protectra, Shellra or any other -ra spell... it won't do you NPC any good. A regular party member would get the effect though. "

ya you guys are right

I dinged level 42 on my npc. Leveling happens every other outing, after about 40 fights.

Althepa is the place to be. I changed him from healer to attacker because we had to stop for him to get mp and that slowed us down. As long as I can keep hate (always if I cast a high spell on mob) the attacker will not get hate at all and we can keep going and going for the 55 minutes.

Since my staff has hp drain and I have Spirit taker for mp, I don't need to rest at all and its just a matter of quickly going from one mob to the next.
