Last night I was teamed up with a pally buddy of mine. We were in The Rathe Mts. hunting Hill Giants. All was going well, with many successful kills and much celebrating.

We were finishing off a Giant, he was giving us very little problem. The pally was down to 52% health when the giant got down to 19%. but he didn't run. I spun around to see if there was an add that I had missed, but there was none. By the time I turned around the pally was dead. Dead in only 2 or 3 seconds. My pet and I finished off the giant who was now running with no problem.

I have never encountered a mob frenzying, but I guess this was it.

How and when does a mob frenzy, anyone know?

Weird. sure it wasn't a lagspike or something that killed your paladin friend?

Some mobs will "enrage" where, at about 10% health they will riposte every attack from the frontal arc for a short time. What this means is that if you're using fast weapons, the mob gets a free attack on you for every swing you make and you die. Same holds true for slower weapons, it just takes longer Smiley: wink The thing to do if you're tanking is, when you see the enrage message, turn off auto-attack and let the mob continue to whack on the tank. Everyone else should usually be attacking from the rear and sides anyway unless you're using boxing tactics, etc.

All that said, hill giants do not Enrage.

I was always under the impression that "frenzy" was the term used to describe "safe" greenie mobs who attack you when they see you near death. A nice example is the Warrens where once mobs are green they'll leave you alone. Get down to under 10% though and every runt, scout and rabid kobold will jump you in a big pile of smelly dog fur and drag you down. I'll be the first to admit I might be wrong on this though.

I have never experienced a Hill Giant enraging (riposting every hit). I am pretty confident that Hill Giants, including Broog Bloodbeard, who is level 46. The only explanation I can think of is that (IIRC) mobs do not run until about 10% hp when the person engaging them is around or below 20% hp. If your paladin friend had gotten a very bad streak of luck from the RNG and was reduced to around 20%, the mob might have stuck on them until they died.

Your definitions of frenzy and enrage sound right to me, Jophiel.
