for a level 65 mage using a pet to tank them and Firebolt of Tallon/wrath of the elements for damage... most were green by this point, but was here to farm crushed diamond dust...
so far no CDD, but got flame of vox, rune of al'kabor, couple of velium weapons, and the sentient greaves... =\

66 Mage Pet with 66+ Weapons, DS, Kindle and Velocity(Conviction is just overkill). Rogues will Love you for the sulfur drops and Master's DoN Smiths will pay 5K+ for Crushed Diamond Dust and you can farm Vellious Gems from hell here(Great for Tribute and Exp-Armor Quests). You actually cast spells? I only healed my pet a few times and work on my Baking Skills(or any other portable skills).

Farming

I have been farming these with my 53 druid easily. They do resist fire like crazy though. Your best bet is to use the swarm line of DOTs. You can harmony to single pull. They do not resist anything magic it seems. Snare always lands and root always sticks for max time. I just single pull one and keep applying Winged Death, Drones of Doom, and Drifting Death. If need be, you can finish them off with Dustdevil (its magic based despite the flame graphics). Takes almost half a mana bar to drop one with max wisdom. I use the spell Spirit of Ash to help with mana regen.

It seems most of their drops are rather rare. I am hear for Crushed Diamond dust and I haven't seen it drop yet.

These hit my so-so twinked 45war for 150ish max(1150ac), relatively fast but nothing insane. They seem to run slower than normal, and can be easily aggro kited with a snare even if you don't have sow or the like. They have a pretty low aggro/assist range, as even pulling from the little house with 4 of em I'd get only the front two every time. They do not run, so be prepared to fight them to the end. Loot was so-so, got 2-3 empty ones then one with an item or two, rinse and repeat. Only got two quest gems in about half a days camp, rest was vendor fodder. Never got a sentient piece. Easily done with a 45war and dru.

Druids Rule :)

Forget kiting ... i've killed many of these things and very rarely does root actually break. Point being, if ya have root USE IT makes your like a lot easier. These things are cake to a 56 druid with KEI ... can get 4-5 down before i have to med. Good thing they're slow to start with too so even if you don't have a form of snare you can usually kite 'em without too much difficulty.

Recently I tried soloing these, me being a 59 SK, for the Sentient 2hd Axe, but found that there's almost too much downtime once even a darkblue goes down. I'd be down to 20 mana and have to sit for 5 minutes before trying again, so I called my 54 SK friend, and with both pets, pulling with Cascading Darkness, DoTting with Boil Blood, and kiting them around a small area on the hill next to the wall, they went down rather easy. All my Spears were resisted, with a small portion of them landing for very little dmg, so I didn't bother trying Spears as it's a waste of mana. Also, unless you have a chanter or shammy with you to haste, the trip to Wakening Land is so long, that getting high chanter haste in PoK is sure to run out not long after you get there, so Darkness kiting with a Boil Blood, (if you have it), is a good way to do it. Also, I haven't got the axe yet. It apparently is a rare drop, unlike the semi rare armor

First off, I tried the second encampment NW of Kael entrance. I found I could single pull at level 54 with Malosi/Malaisement. Pulled to 1940, -2560, which is on the zone wall side of buildings they spawn in. Did not see any wandering mobs during hour and half hunting there.
Did not get a SINGLE disease or poison based dot to stick, granting that I didnt use disease debuff and only tried about 6 times. Best tactic was Mal, Slow and alternate between Cold DD's and meleeing alongside Jobantik. Max hit on me was 115 with 985 Defense.
Got one peridot and one emerald from 10 kills, xp was poor. They carry no cash, for all those who are cheap like me. May try again with partner to see how frequent quest gems drop

As a bored 65 nec, i decided to go farm some sentient gear for my twink sk/work on CoV faction. These mobs still hit my pet (LoZ) for low hundreds (somewhere around 90-117s) ,quad, and sometimes wield velium weapons (which proc a low dmg DD. the wandering mobs can sometimes be more than annoying (stupid panthers dual me for 90s), but thus far can be feared/mezed/ect. oh, and suits can't be feared, but can be mezed/rooted and the like, but like to resist my disease and poison spells nearly everytime (especially poison). Also, they seem to have rather good MR, cause they break root (petrifying earth) early sometimes. Well, hope that helps someone some.

Thus far, I have seen 2 posts dexcribing the actual difficulty of these mobs. One said that they had around 6k+ hp, the other said they have around 50% FR/CR. Please define, "hits hard and fast". Doe shtis mean that they hit in the neighborhood of 150 or 200, quad-hit? Or merely 100 tripple-hit?

My interest in this is I would like to know if a level 53 BL/Enc combo will do well against them.

today I, then 48 SK, a 45ish shammy, and a 51 bard took them down fairly easily once we figured out how. The bard pulled, shammy rooted, tashed and slowed, then doted. I debuffed and dotted (heart flutter would not stick-spear of disease was essintally useless but good for when the adds came, keep debuffs up). The bard had 3 damage songs playing. When it was slowed and i hasted i went in and tanked and it went down easy. Lotta hp's, hits hard and fast but not when debuffed and slowed. Also they are immune to fear.
When the bard pulled 2, he would charm one and tank it, and we would do as above, with me steppin in on the non pet when charm broke

hope that helps once i am finished there!

not for casters
# Feb 11 2003 at 3:23 AM Rating: Decent
I'm a 56 necro and tried my hand at these, rooted one and the others didn't add so apparently at 56 you can single pull. I could only land splurt, darknes, and BoD on it. Any other dots were resisted 100% couldn't land scent of darkness on him either. They are immune to fear so they pretty much suck for casters. Didn't drop anything and got jumped by 2 black panthers in the brief time I was here. Won't be back.
How about a magi?
# Jan 20 2003 at 3:29 AM Rating: Decent
Okies, I see alot about Druids soloing here and Wizzies, but how about a 48 magi? Should I not try? I would love to try these tin traps for exp. Is this mob good to solo? Or when I get there am I going to need to get in a group? Will a person have luck on getting a group or are these mainly camped by people soloing? I know that sony supports the policy no camps, but I do respect other people if they have a camp set up. So, I like to know ahead of time what to expect. I hate to waste paying for a port out there and then find can not hunt them cuz they are camped ya know?

I know there are a ton of places to go, but I have not been here, and a guildie is wearing the armor that drops and was suggested to come here (she did buy hers though).

Thank you to all who post a reply:) Take care:)

I hunt there periodically because some of them are still blue at 58 and I'm hoping to get some armor for a SK friend. I have yet to wander into WL and find anyone hunting them at all. The only problem, as a mage, might be single pulling them. I'm a bard, so single pulling isn't an issue (I can single 'em easily when I want to, or just deal with 'em all). There are two camps worth of 'em, so unless someone's being greedy you should have a shot at one at least. The armor seems to be pretty rare though, I haven't had a drop yet.

I have found that the mage (and shammies too) Malaise line of spells, which has a pretty good range is a very low aggro spell very useful for single pulling, where not otherwise possible without a monk, sometimes. I add the caveat that they probably need to be low in your range of xp mobs to do this though and as always proximity and the mobs natural social tendency to assist is still very important.

I was C3'd and feelin' plucky, so I thought I'd try to kill these guys to get the armor for a friend while getting experience for myself. I used harmony of nature and single pulled one dark blue con. Snare worked fine, root wouldn't land. Swarm dot landed but it resisted fire based dots. Tried calefaction, it resisted it twice and the third time it hit for only 150. By this point I was at less than 50% mana and the darned thing was at about 98% health. This wolf then ran away with her tail tucked! Maybe in a few more levels I'll try again.

Yes, they are tough in the sense that they have high hp's but be patient and they can be very easy =D

They way I killed them was Harmony them with Harmony of Nature, then Pulled with ensnare, once I had them at the hill side I would root and cast Drones of Doom and Drifting Death. I did not cast Ro's or Fixation because those are primarly AC and Atk lowering spells and its not like that will help you much if they hit you, you wont last very long anyway.
Also rumored that Ro's helps DoT's do more damage but I have not seen much evidence of that.
Repeat process 4 to 5 times and Reroot in between ( unless you are brave enough to reroot whene it breaks ).
With ES bracers I could kill one with between 50 - 75 % mana left.
Also I have killed 6 so far and not had one piece of Armor drop, 2 droped some junk loot, No cash though, so I do not recomend camping these Unless you are looking for the Armor

first off the ro line of spells are at lvl 39 is ac an fire debuff 44 is atk an ac debuff, 52 you get breath of ro which is a DoT of around 900 damage with a debuff. an at lvl 52 i was quading these they drop the armor quest gems very regularly for me an also have dropped plenty of armor but dont get me wrong i couldnt quad these without a KEI they are mean an have lots of HP with sitting between blasts an starting out with FM i used all 2650 something mana on them an if i had a resist i had to sit some more to finish the last one off. but the exp is great if you can find a way to do them that works for you. at 52 a druid can easily snare root dot them. but it take's practice to quad these with all the tree's so close together in the area. GL to all with them.

Just remember, kind Druid, that your DoTs stack. So, try to land multiple DoTs on the mob (Creeping Crud, Immolate, Drones of Doom, etc...) and if the mob is snared you are safe. Thanks for the information on the DDs, however. Might try these guys when I find the aliens in TM to con light blue to me. Too much money in Windstones, Acrylia and Essence of Wind to turn my back on that place just yet...

A don't forget Ro's Fiery Sundering. I was getting partial resists on all my Starfires until I debuffed... and then they started landing for full damage.

They also seem quite slow. I had no trouble outrunning an unsnared one with just SoW when my Harmony of Nature let me down. It was easy to get enough distance to ensnare and then it's plain sailing.

6K+ Hps.

Update: Even with Ro's or Ice on them I still get too many resists to make nuking very efficient (especially when I have Affliction Efficiency and Extended Affliction).

I have partnered with a level 41 Enchanter a fair amount and after a Tash her magic based nukes land about 90% on yellows and around 75% on reds (roughly... I haven't kept logs).

More like 8k Hps.

#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 11 2002 at 12:20 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) what do you think the druids are doing.....they are killin them cuz they can solo everything cuz there snares last ten minutes and then sell the stuff for ungodly amounts of pp.....the druids are just mad cuz SoE hasnt given them a zone wide snare so they kite more than 4 mobs at once.....plus the druids complained so much that now rogues can't PP as much...mainly cuz they kite all the HG's in RM....and when the rogues are in there stealing...they cry cuz they dont get all the pp cuz the rogues already got it....but i think that is ghetto too....cuz its a class skill the rogues have...if the druids dont like....then make a rogue.....i think since the amount that a rogue can steal now is lowered....i think that the time on the snares should also be lowered too.

I try not to flame people but you made absolutely no sense. What do HGs and RM have to do with sentient armor? Rogues vs. Druids? Zone-wide snare? My IQ is officially lower now having read your post.
