How to make lots of money with DE (guide)Follow

#127 Nov 22 2006 at 3:44 PM Rating: Decent
I leveled to 225 enchanting in an hour this morning. Wasn't too hard. I'm looking forward to this patch when i suspect enchanting material prices will go through the roof.

So true. My main is already a high level enchanter so this won't affect me too much. I don't expect the prices to go up much on my server though. It seems there is only like two or three of us DE'ing on the AH. Was just easier to keep a mule in IF and check back once in awhile. Guess I will just level up the mule before this patch goes live.

I've tried this for a few days now, but being kinda careful, but it seems to work quite well.

One question, the output from enchantrix can be quite long at times, I tried to make a new window for the enchantrix-text, but I can't make the output enter that window, it enters the general chat window all the time. Any tips on how to fix this?

Just a quick question: I have only been buying the more expensive items right now. Do you guys think I should also buy the low lvl greens that have like 25s profit? Im kinda worried about not being able to sell the low lvl dust/essences. Up till now I only bought the items that disenchanted into Illusion/Dream dust and Eternal/Astral essences. Should I or should I not buy the lower lvl items?
Thanx in advance.

From my experience i have success with all DE mats, there are always lots of low level enchanters who need these to level up. I buy everything i can get my hands on, to date my level 7 alt has made 1500g in just over four weeks :):):). This is after buying 14slot bags, armor, weapons etc for my main.

Now i have to lvl him up to ensure I'm able to DE what i want to in the BC upgrade.

I just thought I would check in an let you all know that I only have 300G on my DE alt now....after buying epic mounts for both mains. /GRIN

Thanks again for the original guide and for all those people who have added tips along the way. (I plan to use the 2000 line setting to correct the chat window issue) I am currently alternating days on the Alliance side with my wife while coming up to speed on the Horde side with the strategy. I guess the next step will be to level my bank alts.

Remember - PLEASE DON'T UNDERCUT!! (Or if you do, don't undercut by much) Price stability FTW. Otherwise the number of worthwhile items to DE will decrease with time.

I do both. The higher level items present a problem in cash flow, since they are mostly purchased via bid (/enchantrix bidbroker), and that can tie up a considerable amount of gold for a 24-hour period. However, these do have the power to provide gold.

Normal low-level purchases are acquired rapidly. /enchantrix percentless also has a cash-flow problem, although it's on the sales end rather than the buying end. It's main good point is that it doubles your investment.

If you are able to purchase every single one of the items from percentless, you probably have enough left over to bid on the expensive stuff with bidbroker. Both types make you money, so why shouldn't you do both?

Lately, I've been selling out of Strange Dust very quickly. The things I'm having a glut of are Soul Dust and Illusion Dust. I'm going to have a 1/2 price sale soon on those, just to lower my inventory. Yes, it's undercutting, but if somebody thinks they can sell them for more then they are welcome to purchase them and resell at the profit that auctioneer says should be obtained.

This is a great way to make some easy cash..In 3 days I went from 3.5g to over 40g. At first it was a bit slow, but as everyone knows the AH prices can swing pretty wildly, especially on more mature servers during a holiday (i.e. lots of people playing). I had a bunch of magical essences I was gettting ready to unload when some genius dumped a ton of them on the AH undecutting by about 50%...oh well.

I have found that I try to stay away from lvl 20-30 green items that have BO of around a gold because they usually DE into magical essences, which are worth squat to me right now. So it is a good idea to see what the odds of something DE into a good essence/dust are before buying it.

This method combined with Auctioneer scans (buy low sell high!) works great.

I've been finding that auctioneers prices are skewed by people selling 20 strange dust for example for 99g. It's not a huge problem but my profits aren't as high as enchantrix says they should be. I am making profit but it is slow going, maybe it's just my server, anyway, any profit is good so I'm not complaining.

Thanks. Unfortunately, played time would not really be telling because the gold came from multiple sources. (Over 50 percent was from disenchanting) This character had been an auction house scanner prior to disenchanting, so I really don't have a good way to determine income/played time. Now I just have to choose an alt to level to 20 so I can continue after the expansion.

Cool thread.

However, one thing about Auctioneer. I would not use it blindly to post things. Dont just put it up for whatever it tells you. Prices are supposed to fluctuate as suppy and demand change. I would put them up for 5s less than the lowest price (or buy out the lowest ones if someone put them for rediculously low and resell). Sure, it will sell for 2g, but you could be getting more money when the next thing is 5g. When you see something selling for 5g and 4g youll buy the 4g one right? Well if it was 4g 50s you would still buy it right? if it was 4g 95s youre not gonna randomly change to the higher priced one. People will still buy yours over the next guys, but when someone else comes to undercut you their price wont be as low as if you had undercut a lot more. It will still sell as long as it is the lowest priced item, you dont have to kill the market to get it to sell.

Basically use your brain to do something more than pressing a button and letting a mod do all the work. The mod is not as smart as you (I hope).

Well.. since patch 2.0 the old version of auctioneer stopped working and we must wait for the 4.0 version to come out. If you know anything about making addons go to norgannas site and try to help if you can. Maybe that would speed things up and get us back to business earlier:P

The command
/auctioneer pct-underlow 2
will make it so that the auctioneer automatically undercuts 2% of the price of the markets lowest price.

Altough for the sake of your own business I recommend you also use
/auctioneer pct-maxless 15
so auctioneer wont try to undercut prices that are under 15% of the normal prices.
#140 Dec 12 2006 at 1:45 PM Rating: Decent
Yea, i just noticed that there wasnt a new Auctioneer for 2.0 yet. I could not get on to the server with my main on it, which is my enchanter, for about the past week, and now that i can, no auctioneer, so i havent been able to try this.

That seems really handy but...

i still wouldnt use that. I dont like using Auctioneer's "normal" price. It just seems to go against free market economies like the one that exists in the AH. Although this doesnt just put up an auction for a normal price, i think i can make my own judgement of whether to sell an item or not :) just me though. It might be usefull if im feeling lazy or in a hurry though...

If you're high enough run some low lvl instances and D/e everything you get and put it up.

Since the auctioneer package is down there is not much on the auction house material wise. I have been D/Eing everything I get from the runs and putting them up and the prices that I'm selling at now at about 100-200% more then what I was selling them for pre 2.0. I've made more gold since auctioneer has been broken then I did with it working.
#142 Dec 13 2006 at 11:17 PM Rating: Decent
Yea i went to SM after i posted that and got like 50g from a really quick session.

I have the alpha version of auctioneer running at the moment, pretty stable it is too. However, when i type in /enchantrix percentless (whatever %) i get nothing or:

"Buyouts having (whatever %) savings over average item disenchant value (min savings =10)

Percentless done.

I dont suppose any of you guys have experienced this and sorted it out have you? If so i would really appreciate some help.

Thanks in anticipation.

From the Enchantrix forum:

I know that we are using the alph version right now, but just wanted to point out that the /enchantrix percentless command doesn't work in the alpha version, just in case others were wondering about it.

Known bug, on the list to fix. Thanks for the heads-up

and no list.. do i do anything wrong?

Ps. never used enchantrix before.

Funny thing - I have lots and lots of mats from Strange Dust to large shards of all types. What sells out first? You got it in one. Strange Dust. It doesn't sell for a lot (80-90S/stack), but it does sell steady.

Oh well I'm now down 30g because I forgot about the change that you have to be a certain skill to disenchant a particular level of item. But when I'm up to 150 enchanting there's gonna be a hell of a lot of dream dust on the ah and that stuff sells for 1.5g for one dust.

I would also like to add that stange dust is my only steady source of income atm as it always sells fast for 1.5g a stack. My other usual money makers like small glimmering shards are so flooded they just won't sell. The disenchanting business is not too good for me currently.

#151 Dec 27 2006 at 9:10 AM Rating: Decent
Selling enchanting mats is never a 'bad idea' because they cost you NOTHING to sell. If they get sent back...big deal, just repost them; you take no loss on the failed auction, compared to what you can lose when you have to repost the same 20g blue over and over and over again.
