Does anyone know how to tweak draw distance? Maybe one of the "unknow" functions.

When tweaking the background resolution, should you set it to the -exact same- as your overlay resolution? Or should both dimensions be the same?

For example:
I run the overlay at 1152x864

Should I set the background to 1152x1152, or 1152x864?
Thx.

Edit: Fyi, I have a CRT monitor so its a 4:3 aspect ratio. Its max is 1600x1600 so thats not an issue either.

Graphics Enhancement via MIP Mapping
A lot of people really like the way FFXI looks when MIP mapping (key 0000) is set to 4. Give it a try. Distant textures will be lower resolution and blurred more, reducing the need for anisotropic texture filtering and thus allowing you to speed up your game by tweaking your graphics card's settings. It also (IMO) improves the appearance of distant textures, and eliminates the horrendous flickering. If you like the effect but think it's a bit too strong, downgrade to 3 or even 2. The flickering will be present at 2, and barely noticeable at 3.

Setting this to anything other than the defaults will also result in textures never being displayed at their maximum resolution. i.e. tetxures will downsampled even when when the object is right next to the camera. IMHO it's better to just crank up ansiotropic filtering to 16x or whatever your maximum is to eliminate "crawlies" that to ***** with the mapmap LOD bias.

Fake Antialiasing
You can set a higher resolution for your background than the display mode. Doing this will force your graphics card to downsample the image, which will do a weighted average on nearby pixels thus blurring pixels whose neighbors are not the same color. In layman's terms: You'll get simple antialiasing by setting your background resolution (0003 and 0004) higher than your display resolution (0001 and 0002).

It's not "fake" it's just brute force supersampling. Best results are achived when the rendering resolution is 2x the display resolution. (or 4x, but with the max being 2048x2048 that's not possible with anything other than 512x384)

Setting your screen resolution to 1024x768 and your rendering resolution to 2048x1536 will largly eliminate "crawlies" btw.

Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

I thought of it first:

Set both to be the same.

I'm guessing, since this topic is 3 years old, that the post you tried to pop has been nuked.
