Got my t8 25 man helm today finally. Tempted to now make the switch from lunar to solar eclipse.

At what point does solar become better? I was under the impression that with the way the numbers work, there never really is a point where solar is better enough to make switching the rotation worthwhile.

Wouldn't free Starfires during Lunar be hawt enough to stay Lunar?

Or would you be able to shift enough haste into crit and SP to make the Wraths that much uber during Solar procs?

Well, from the testing I did on the 80 heroic test dummies for about 2 hours yesterday.

I found that on average in my gear I was doing about 3500-3700 dps on a heroic dummy with a solar eclipse. This is with about 26% crit and 2300 spell power and 301 haste.

I put on my lunar gear and found I would do an average of 4000-4400 dps pending the rng. I did this with about 23% crit, 2200 spell power and 543 haste. I was also able to keep my mana pool longer and kept a sustained damage.

The conclusion that I came to is that with this set of tier gear and loot from ulduar solar is viable when you have BiS. You get something like 3300 spell power and 29-30% crit.

Solar is doable yes but you'll have lower dps until you either reach BiS for solar or until t9 raids come out with higher crit items.

I have this really good feeling that t9 will be when it becomes viable, blizzard will understand that instead of spirit on our gear, we want secondary stats such as crit/haste and not spirit/hit.

One little addendum for you all. I am the proud owner of the Heartbreaker achievement. XT 10 man hardmode clear. It honestly wasn't that hard. Also we we're attempting IC hardmode with steelbreaker last and got him to 5% and our priest was overkilled by..... SIXTY THREE DAMAGE.

I had to leave after that attempt so my group proceeded to 9 man auriya and hodir.

Edit: One more thing! I got eye of the brood mother trinket, it's sexy as hell. In 10 man I was buffed up to 2859 spell power with my trinket pushing me to something like 3360 during eclipse. I love elemental shamans.

Grats on the achievement!

I'm hoping they take a real look at Moonkin rotation for 3.2. I really enjoy the concept, but I just feel that it doesn't really work out because of it's RNG dependency and because one can't just switch between the two easily. It makes the rotation require a bit more attention, but I don't feel it does so in a good manner.

We did the 10man XT hard mode last night as well and I was surprised at how easy it was. Admittedly, my guildies have a fair bit of 25man Uld gear so we overgear 10man a bit, but I was in the top couple of DPS and I only have one 10man ring and a 25man helm so far.

We also came very close to a server 2nd 10man Hard mode General Vezzax last night. We got the Saronite Animus to 4% (with the General under 500k health) before a shadow crash wiped the melee because too many ranged had died (in 10man you need at least 3 people at ranged or General will start targeting melee with Shadow Crash).

I am really enjoying both the 10 and 25man Ulduars at the moment. Although we have cleared 25man several times now, several of the fights are still a significant challenge and working on different hard modes really keeps things interesting. 10 man easy is a lot easier, but still with the option of hard modes. We did 3-4 hard modes last night and still managed a full clear in one session which makes it much easier to fit it into off-nights between 25mans.

Friar, when you say you have cleared 25 Uld, do you mean Algalon as well?

I was just wondering whether he is starting to be taken down regularly by some guilds.

On another note I got my first piece of Ulduar gear the other night.

Pity it looks like I have a fishbowl built into both shoulders...
#258 Jun 15 2009 at 12:36 AM Rating: Good
No, definitely haven't downed Algalon, in fact we haven't even tried yet. Pretty sure we are focusing more on the hard modes etc while we gear up even more. Algalon seems to be a step above again by the sounds of it, especially with only an hour a week to attempt it.

According to World of Raids leaderboard only 6 guilds have beaten him yet.

My guild made progress lat night.

We killed Freya. Was a broken kill and we barely beat the enrage but still nice to make progress.

The lack of guild healers is killing me now.

No loot for me but still good fun. Hoping we steamroll to Freya on Wed and either try her for a bit or deal with Ignis.

Ignis is a prick.

Agreed, progress is good no matter how it is achieved :) With the loot that you continue to pick up it will be smoother next time round

Seems to be the general consensus! In our 10 man (I say our but one of the healers left so I was roped in on my holy pally....no love for my Druid which is quite disheartening) last week we cleared up to The Keepers of Ulduar but skipped Ignis. Mimiron is a fun fight, also Thorim when you go on the gauntlet but maybe that is because we have a crazy *** warrior tank who waits for noone :)

Maybe the last part should have been posted on the pally forum but hey in my heart I was on my druid shredding mobs for fun :)

Bored druid is bored.

But I did get Intensity last night off 25 man ignis. The funny thing is it put me at like 450 hit rating so I had to ditch out my Living Flame trinket for good ole Sundial of the Exiled :(

Gonna do the last to keepers tomorrow and hopefully get vezax down quick to head onto yogg.

Last night was good to my druid won Illustration of the Dragon Soul with a 100 roll (the guy with a 99 was seriously pissed Smiley: schooled) and then in naxx-10 i won Staff of the Plaguehound and slapped a Massacre enchant on it.

Ok question for the ferals which staff would you prefer for dps, and what enchant (i can do masacre or Mongoose)Staff of the Plaguehound Vs. The Undeath Carrier (leaning towards the undeath carrier mainly cause i like the way it looks Smiley: lol).

Do you need the expertise?

My expertise rating is at 22 is that good or do i need more?

You want to reduce the chance to be dodged by 6.5%. I believe that's 26 expertise.

Hold on to both. I find that there's no shortage of expertise on leather gear.
#269 Jun 22 2009 at 3:57 AM Rating: Good
You don't need to cap expertise any more than you need to cap hit; it loosens up your rotation but doesn't implicitly affect your dps as severely as most classes.

I'd do Undeath Carrier myself, for dps, and would use Plaguehound for tanking (since expertise is good for bears to minimize dodged/parried attacks lowering your TPS).

I run expertise heavy on my tank and light on hit. My DPS set I think I am close to being capped for both but I don't prioritize it over trying to pile n retarded levels of ArP. I've been going ArP nutty since I got Grim Toll. The ArP weapon from Uld helped my dementia as well.

Did the guild's weekly PuG Uld25. Fail melee group meant only FL went down. Running to a side is hard.

I did get a new ring out of the deal.

Then a guildie wanted to do H UK to get the belt for a new rogue. We gt as far as the second boss before sleepiness made it collapse. I was amazed we got the far with me healing. The mage we PuG'd wanted to know why I had no chest on or wrists. Lucky he didn't look at my spec. ;)

Feral healing FTW.

I'd normally agree fully, but that expertise is just about a quarter of what one needs to hit the cap. I'm not sure that it's worth sacrificing hitting 2% more for the crit.

I guess it comes down to how comfortable one is with their rotation, and if they can handle a miss.

As a side note, I'm really not looking forward to the Eclipse change in 3.2. I ran Ulduar on my moonkin last night and was doing very well considering I had basically no caster buffs (I was the only caster DPS). There were just too many times were Eclipse procced at an awful time (Kologan eye beams anyone?), I'd get the proc and was completely unable to get Starfire to crit (I know, RNG is RNG, but come on), or something else fustrating.

I'm just not a fan of having my DPS based on a RNG proc off of an RNG chance to have a RNG crit. It's looking like Crit will be the stat to have with 3.2 (after SP, of course), which will certainly help out getting the initial proc, but that's not going to make it any more fun.

Grim Toll made me do it. It crept into my thoughts with delusions of grandeur and face shredding pwnage.

Plus DPS isn't my main gig so I get to mess around with Manglespam ArP fun.

I should have DS in a week. Which will mean no more Manglespam. :(

I do like blowing berserk on XTs heart and scaring everyone into thinking I'm going to trigger hard mode. ;)

I will some day when I forget to change to into tank gear. I will laugh until I pee.
