2v2 team - mixed ratings...Follow

Exploit or simply leveling a friend?

Noticed an unhealthy trend for my gal and I's 2v2 team - mixed rating teams - they've been slaughtering us. O_o

The pattern has been one guy with a lousy rating and another one with a more solid one, usually about a 500 point spread. While the lower level guy usually goes down easy enough - depending on partner - nothing like having a healer who outgears the heck out of you to deal with while his unkillable "pet" goes to town on you or your partner - the higher rated one inevitably owns the fight.

I'm guessing this is something that was only made possible by the last patch as this is the first time I'm seeing it and it turned a normally somewhat productive run of arenas that usually fills the bar for the week into a miserable waste of "well at least we got the pet" runs where we only won when we were dealing with a team in which both opponents were the same level.

Are you saying like someone has a MMR of like 2200 while their partner has say 1500? Now you're also like 1500-1600 and getting caught against this really high experienced person?

I don't know how MMR works I would figure it would take closer to the high end, or maybe average, I don't know. It's not uncommon for people to sell ratings though. A lot of people will buy a PR of 2200 to be able to get the title, gear, whatever else comes with the rating.

That could be what you are running in to. Maybe change the time you arena to hopefully get more equivalent teams.

There's also a reasonable amount of clothies going for this or the spirit version. "LF 2v2 partner so I can get my wand", is not uncommon in /2 on my servers. Lots of them barely PvP, and are only doing it because it's a fast way to upgrade from a green wand. I imagine they get matched up with some pretty decent PvPers from time to time.

This is nothing new, honestly. You're just actually seeing it because Blizzard has made it more transparent where someone stands in their ratings.

I used to help out friends all the time back in TBC when you weren't penalized for leaving teams.
