So every once in a while I'll be fighting someone and then suddenly they'll leap a significant distance backward like a hunter disengage and a parachute will pop, usually resulting in them going even further - what the heck is it they're doing?

Goblins, I believe have some sort of leaping ability too, as a racial.

Never got around to asking - ran into a streak of different classes doing it so got curious again - shrugs.
