Rugburnone, 2 sites for you.

1: http://shadowflare.gameproc.com/dwnload.html Get WinMPQ from here. I haven't messed with it for adding/replacing files. But it has yet to crash from loading and extracting WoW files.

2: http://tech.wc3campaigns.com/index.php?page=downloads BLP2 converters. Haven't really tested converting to BLP2, but I use the BLP2->TGA converter for WoW.

I use MyWoWStudio because it is *WAY* faster than winmpq, and has a built-in previewer

I have attempted to edit textures, and have figured out how - the problem comes in that TGA files have no mipmaps and so the characters look completely black from anything except ~1 foot away or closer (it only renders the closest mipmap texture), the solution would be a blp->dds and dds->blp converter but I have no programming knowledge so wouldn't know how to do that

Just thought I'd throw this in: Changing the model/texture or whatever COULD get you banned from wow. I don't exactly think that blizzard would approve of getting brightskins etc for your opposing faction. Or maybe replacing every gnome with let's say ogres instead. Makes it MUCH easier to see them coming sneaking in ashenvale. Or maybe change the arrow model from the hunters target? Those may not be the best examples but I think you get why blizzard may frown on this.

I don't really hold GMs promises/advice in a high regard on this sort of matter. They are not exactly an authorative force to be reckoned with. If there was "official" word on their homepage that it's totally OK to change textures/models I'd be happier. And even then I don't think it would take them long to reconsider that decision when you realize just how many cheats that could be created just by switching around the original models/textures. Add in player-created models specificly for this purpose and you get quite a mess.

If you don't know what brightskins are they are basicly pink/white/red textures that cover the whole base model. MUCH easier to see. It's common in FPS games that are played on a competetive level (such as UT2004).

Anyway I know the following

1: They have no way of knowing I did this, even if they did implement a deep file check, there would be no way to differentiate it from a patching error or a purposeful modification, because WoW's patching utility can cause file consistancy glitches rather easily - they would never force deep file checks on launch though because the game would take about 20 times longer to log in, and **** everyone off severely

2: They could simply disallow files in the data directory to by default superseed the ones in the mpqs if they cared

3: There is not really a way to cheat in pvp with this, you can use the ingame scripting functions to cheat WAY worse like make your minimap ping the location of both flags as long as they are held - it's against the TOS but you can do it!

4: I haven't done anything to give me an advantage over anyone, I'm just having some harmless fun messing with the graphics - it's no different than a modified weapon model pack for a game like Counterstrike

Is there a way to apply armor textures to the different races using that program? That's all I'm really interested in seeing (Kind of like the Modelviewer if you played FFXI).

You can extract the armor you want to see and rename it's files to match one you want to replace

Make a newbie rogue of each race and replace the default rogue armor with the one you want to see - would be a good example

There may be another utility that can allow you to apply skins to a model within the model viewer itself, but I don't know it

Here's the ironic thing, Mr.mitsotonu.

You're the only one taking this sexually.

No one else really cares about the nudity. They're all discussing the actual client side data manipulation process and the possible reprecussions it may have with Blizzard.

Oh, and your age is still showing. =)

Not saying there is anything wrong with it? Maybe you should scroll up and reread your post.

Your mind is the one that jumped to people stroking the dolphin while looking at these - everyone else in this thread is just having some harmless fun.

Hmm if I was to change the weapons / armor etc of my character, how do I know which one my current weapon is? I mean, if I am to replace something with a special weaponskin, how do I know which to replace?
#87 Jun 27 2005 at 1:10 PM Rating: Default
Look through the weapons in textures.mpq, if you have a 1h axe you would look under 1handed axes, find the texture that matches your axe and record it's name, go into models.mpq and find the corresponding model (or do it in reverse order, finding the model first, it helps to get a good close up screenshot of the item in question and put it up right next to the wowstudio render window for quick comparison if you are having trouble)

Record the names of the model, and every texture associated with it, and extract a model you like with the filename of the one you want to replace, and extract the textures that go with the model you just extracter 1 at a time, sometimes having to make duplicates, and rename them so they superseed ALL the textures associated with the old model (If you do not, anyone else who has the same weapon model as you but with perhaps a different texture will have a very messed up looking weapon)

Armor is a bit more tricky, but just look at your armor, look at the textures until you find the right one, and remember each piece of your armor (torsoupper, torsolower, armupper for chest pieces) will have the same prefix, like Leather_Horde_A_02Yellow_Pant

Hmm, I was trying to do what you just said, but I just couldnt get it. To where should I be extracting em? Right into the corresponding .mpq file? Like a new model into model.mpq etc?

Edit: Nvm, I got the above now, but I ran into another problem. I was trying to replace the textures and model of the hammer Princess Theradras' scepter into Ashbringer. I have succeded with the model now, but during the texture replacement it stopped working. The old mace only had one texture, where as Ashbringer has two. I can get half of the weapon to look as it should, blue/black stone with lightning, but the rest of the weapon (the "non-blade" itself) is just green, indicating no texture even applied to that part. Got any solution to this?

Would it be possible for a druid to replace his bear model with the corehound model? or would you run in to the problem with the skin having 3 parts like you mentioned earlier?
#91 Jun 27 2005 at 7:16 PM Rating: Decent
Opt; probably not, since the game isn't looking for a second texture associated with that model.
Mal; I think he mentioned the Ancient Core Hound as one of the more impressive models with only a single texture, so you should be fine.

i downloaded the tga to BLP2 editor but anytime i try loading with a modified texture i get a crash before the character screen :/ Anyone have something that has been tried and tested?
#93 Jun 28 2005 at 12:45 PM Rating: Decent
hey Rugburnone
what texture file did you use for your new succubus(the high elf model) i cant seem to find it, is it one of the "bakednpctextures" if so could you tell me the name of it
#94 Jun 29 2005 at 1:54 PM Rating: Default

#96 Jun 30 2005 at 3:12 AM Rating: Default
Sorry to bother you, But i just can't seem to figure it out... i must be blind and stupid... I've manged to change my mount (changed it to the 'black skin' raptor then the pvp epic black raptor((that had some issues with the eyes and the feathers being white)).

And i changed my shoulders and Helm,

But i can't seem to find where to go for chest/gloves/legs/pants and such.... do i load it up like i did to change helm/shoulders and such? do i load models? then goto?

Sorry about this...

Edit: Ok.... i went to 'texture components' and found the textures for gloves/feet/torso and such... But can you change the models on chest/gloves? or not possible?

Is there any way you could go through the exact process step by step using specific examples (like, say, changing a piece of judgement to a piece of lawbringer)? I can find the textures and the like just fine, however I can't seem to view them in any way that would actually make them identifiable as that piece of armor in the viewer.
#101 Jul 03 2005 at 12:44 PM Rating: Default
lol you only have alliance charcters only have horde's and my highest three of them are 60 tauren warriors my lowest 6 tauren hunter my coolest Orc warlock lvl 58
