Summary

Deidogg wants to prove that the Talekeeper Raogrimm was no hero. First, he wants you to defeat the Quadav nest guardian in the Palborough Mines that Raogrimm claimed to have killed, and take from it the mottled Quadav egg the Talekeeper failed to bring back.

Walkthrough

Note: You must have completed The Doorman - WAR AF1 to start this quest.

First, talk to Phara at J-9 in Bastok Mines. Next, go and speak to Deidogg at H-6 in Bastok Mines. Talk to him twice to receive a cutscene.

Go to Palborough Mines, and at (G-10), look for a ???. Examine this to spawn the notorious monster Ni'Ghu Nestfender. When defeated, the NM drops a Mottled Quadav Egg.

After that, go to Castle Oztroja and kill Yagudo Parasites, which spawn around H-9 on the third floor. Kill them until you get a Parasite Skin.

Return to Bastok Mines. Trade the Mottled Quadav Egg to Deidogg for a cutscene. Afterwards trade the Parasite Skin to him to receive the final cutscene. Wait until next in game day and speak with Deidogg again to receive your Fighter's Calligae.

Soloed this today as H 75RDM/37NIN. Took about 4 min to kill him. Had only one low level sword on me. Fight isn't hard at all, but he does hit you hard from time to time. GL to other WARs who are after this NM.

Did the NM as 74 pld/rdm with my regular taning setup (and no food or any extra crap), did the leeches as pld/war then solo'd out a coffer key from Castle O for my drk AF. The NM was a good challenge but none the less mine, you don't need to sub ninja to do this... just need to know your job.

This was way to easy!!!

I was debating on which on which job i should take to own this guy. My 75 NIN, Or my 75 THF, So i decided i would have some fun on my ninja. So i head out there killing off any quads that could possibly link. thinking that this might be decently challenging because it's an AF QUEST. So i pop hi, and mind you i used no food.

He didn't touch me once! i casted Utsusemi: Ni 2 times and that was it. his banish never dealt any damage to me, the only thing that was annoying was when he used that move and i dealt 0 DMG for 2 mins. this guys is a push over, Anyone that has a DD job 60+ can kill this guy, just make sure you sub ninja otherwise, your not going to make it.
Very dissapointed

Not a hard fight

I don't mean to disparage those that had trouble obtaining this, but it's not very hard.

I don't remember if I had trouble the first time I did this, but after turning in my old af boots to get the +1 version I figured I'd get these back as soon as possible to stick the armor back in storage and free up my inventory again.

I didn't expect difficulty and didn't get any. While not something a level 50 should attempt on his own no one with a 75 job should have much trouble. I went thf 75 subbed nin, and after a 6 month break I'm still pretty slow on the controller. While dual boxing a 70 whm friend to give me a ride I figured I'd do some chores to get back into the game more and went and got a parade gorget and escaped to go finish this off as well. Started the fight and didn't think it was worth even equipping my SH for an AF2 mob, kept wearing the paz I wear to look less like a valentine's day boytoy, and I hadn't thought to rest the whm I was dualing before so she was outta mp from taking me to do the AF1 weapon and teh parade gorget. Was watching Gross Point Blank at the time and din't even pay much attention to the fight, I went to yellow at one point and thought to rest the whm to toss a convenient Cure V, but I didn't even recast shadows very often. I'm not an uber geared thief, and while the fight took a lot longer than I expected, I didn't even noticing him healing himself - but the Cure 4s mentioned below would explain his longevity a bit, it wasn't trouble at all. Solo'd him with maybe 3 utsemi casts and one Cure 5.

The parasites aren't even worth mentioning, they're in a pond on the way to the coffer farming area. Nothing on the way agroes a 75, or even a 70 as I had the whm on follow to altep me to bastok quick. Killed one parasite, it's a 100% drop, linked the whole pool and stood there with no shadows not being hit while casting altep on the whm.

The most annoying part of the quest is waiting for Deiddog to finish the greaves as he wants you to come back the next day, I'm writing this as I stand next to him waiting for the day to change.

I just soloed this as brd/whm, took me about 25 mins to kill the quadav NM, i was hitting for 15-20 a swing with my dagger and getting hit for 80-120 a shot back (when it hit).
I had to switch to sword for spirits within at 300tp for the kill becase of cure3 spam.
I kept 2x paeon up at all times and the occasional regen. Wasn't hard but i'd recommend bring a DD for a much faster kill.

So, is it one game day or RL day for him to give you rewRD? After trading him the parasight skin. BTW of course pwned quadave w/ my assasin/nin he was tough though.
Info on this is wrong!!!!!!!
# Jan 06 2007 at 7:46 AM Rating: Decent
I thought I'd post this up, since I am pissed that this site has the wrong info on this.

First of all you don't need to find the secret room where the 2 Yags are kickin it. Why? Cuz they don't drop anything useful, and definately don't drop a key to get to the 3rd floor!

All you need to do is find your way to the door leading to the 3rd floor, I can't remember the exact coordinates but I do remember that it is in the middle of the map. And you just need to put in the correct variance of levers to open the door. But be careful there are Tier 5 Yags sitting right there when you open up the door. They checked as Tough and VT to me at 52.

Thankfully I had Whm subbed and was able to throw up invise, and the leeches that dropped the skin checked as EP, and DC.

But thankfully I had a 73 Bst, and a 72 Bst with me and they cleared the roomed in just a couple of mins.

But don't bother looking for this "Secret" room it's a waste of time, we wondered around for over an hour looking for it, though we had been in it a few times and killed those Yags, it was a pointless endevour. All you need to do is find the door that leads up to the leeches and kill yourself some leeches and you got your AF2.

Also we got a skin for every single leech we killed, so it's a 100% drop.

Peace and Good Luck.
easy... for the most part

I just finished this w/ 75 Thf/Nin. It was not to bad.

Acid bolts to lower his def.
Blind bolts to lower his acc.
Bloody bolts for the win!
I did not try using any ninjitsu (Slow, Para, Blind, etc). If they would stick this fight would be very easy indeed for a solo Thf above 74.

Also I would warn others that you can not sleep this NM w/ sleep bolts. This means you will not be able to Sneak attack if you try this solo. You will have to grind it out hit for hit.

Wow.

I just did this thinking that it would be hard. I read a bunch of stories, and also asked a few friends of mine if it were tough. I decided to go do it this morning so I swapped to my 75NIN and finished it in like 30 min. It was so easy and I was so worried thinking that I wasn't gonna kill the quadav >_>

People people, don't take other ppl's advice so seriously, I mean just because it was hard for them doesn't mean it will be tough for you. Also vice versa, some things will be easy for some people, but it doesn't mean that it will be easy for you.

Look up the quest/mission online and be prepared for what you are going to face. Ask around and you will get the info needed to accomplish what you go out for.

Success!!!

I helped my bro doing this AF piece, so we went as PLD 67 (me) and WAR 51. Was a very long fight cuz we weren't doing alot of damage, but the quadav wasn't hitting me hard either (20-40 was the damage range). I used 2 bottles of yagudo drink and 1 pinapple juice and after 10 mins of fight we won ^__^

Just did Palborough mines NM solo as a level 71 thf. Overprepared, used a RR hairpin and called NPC buddy...didn't need it. Of note sleep bolts don't work on this NM and Garuda's dagged never proc'd. Used Dancing Edge to interrupt Cure 3 spams at the end...never even made it into the yellow. Bloody bolts are a thing of beauty. Happy hunting guys...gonna finish this rather easy quest tonight.

not that easy for me

I tried to kill the NM with a BRD74 and me (PLD74) and we both got killed by the quadav. We werent prepared cause we thought it would be an easy fight. It wasn't. Then I got one of the leader of my linkshell (WAR75) to help me and it was a joke. Then for the skin, I linked like 4 of the parasite, killed one, got the drop and warped. I could have killed them all, they are not difficult. So if you want to solo the whole quest, I don't recommend doing it as PLD unless you got /nin, good armor and good skills.
2%

70 PLD died when nm 12%. i died at 2% thanks to utsusemi. a whm waiting on friend to do bcnm 30 was there, so he raised us and called his drg riend over. easy win =D
What BS
# Aug 18 2006 at 6:55 PM Rating: Decent
This NM was some BS....Me (69pld/war) and my wife (50war/nin) went to fight this today, fight went well for a bit then wife dropped 2hr and he then immediately dropped invincible. Needless to say less then 10% for dead it began to Cure IV the **** outta itself. Then low and behold he drops a 400hp Head Butt right as my 2hr wore off and then it went poorly from there. He worked us both had and before he died he had more than 1/2 his health left, WTF Now not only do I have to try and get it again but I and she both de-lvld. This NM is straight up some BS, should take a group of 70s to beat WTF!!!!!!
Defeated with 4ppl....

This was only my 2nd AF quest ever. After reading the posts here (minus the 'solo'd easy as 75 blah blah) I was worried that I need higher level help. Here was our party config:

52WAR/25NIN <-- Me
55BLM/27SMN
47BRD/23WHM
42WHM/21BLM (note: I may be off on their subjobs)

Our first attempt was a bust, the BRD dc'd and we had to {Escape} . The poor BRD came back and was wiped by the NM, so we went back to get him. After a little discussion we decided to go for it again.

This time our BRD 2hr'd right away, and I was actually able to keep up shadows most of the time. I maintained decent hate, but the BLM made it a little hard. Eventually we all had 2hr'd and MP was a little low, but we survived easy. I was amazed, and the next game day I had my nifty boots!

Fun >:D

65nin/war soloed af2~

was close though... if you do attempt, make sure you time it so nighttime is just starting, got hit once all the way down to aroudn 25%.. then daytime hit, lost my +10 evasion, and nearly got massacred... 101hp when finished... and w/ the leaches, aggro em all, kill one and 2hr (or kill the rest if you want, they're fun)
Carby rules
# Jul 31 2006 at 2:27 PM Rating: Decent
SMN 75......... CARBY rules.. easy fight, could have taken him down with carby alone but i threw in some other smn's .... fun fight when an old quadav started to interfer,, lol he was only missing carby.....
