Summary

The Library of Magic wants you to help retrieve its overdue library books. In this case, a Hume by the name of Orn has checked out the book "Art for Everyone," but has failed to return it by the due date.

Walkthrough

You cannot get this quest if you are currently on Windurst Mission 2-1 Lost for Words or 7-1 The Sixth Ministry.

If you do start this after finishing one of those two missions, you must leave the zone and then come back to talk with Tosuka-Porika before she will give you this quest. She asks if you'd work for gil. After you accept, she tells you to talk to Furakku-Norakku, who is behind the counter in the same room.

Furakku-Norakku gives you a key item: Overdue Book Notification to give to Orn.

Orn can be found in the room above the Timbre Timbers Tavern (F-10) in Windurst Waters. He tells you about how some Yagudo waylaid him and how he had to throw things at them to escape, including the book. He asks you to request for an extension for him. Speak to him again. He will tell you he heard that the Yagudo store their stolen items in the Treasure Room of Giddeus. Don't bother asking Furakku-Norakku for an extension, unless you want to for the humor.

If you want to plan ahead, buy a Silver Beastcoin before continuing. Head to Giddeus by going out to West Sarutabaruta. The entrance to Giddeus is at (F-8). Take the tunnels behind either the Food or Drink Altars. You need to go down one level to (G-6).

When you reach the treasure room, open the door. There is a Yagudo named Quu Bokye "in" the Treasure Room. He wants a Silver Beastcoin. These can drop from higher level Yagudo in the tunnels. (If you are currently doing the Dark Knight quest Dark Legacy, then Quu Bokye will not give you the correct dialogue.)

Trade him the Silver Beastcoin and he will give you "Art For Everyone". Head back to Windurst Waters and talk to Furakku-Norakku to complete the quest and collect your reward.

Quest Series

This quest is part of a series of quests offered by the Optistery. See the list below to find out which quest comes next.

Lost for Words

Confirmed that you DON'T have to have Lost for words completed. I hadn't even received the Lost for words quest and I still go this one.

Hi,

I'm having a problem flagging this quest too. I have finished the Glyph Hanger quest, zoned, and talked to her again, but all she said was something about a model hat.

I figured I was running into problems because long ago I picked up the Hat in Hand quest and never completed it, so I ran my *** off completing that one, then zoned, and came back to talk to Tosuka-Porika. She told me something about looking like an adventurer, riff-raff, what are you doing in here, blah blah. Still no quest.

Can someone help me?

This guide is wrong- you obviously don't need "Lost for Words" which is a Windurst Mission. I did Glyph Hanger quest, and have virtually no fame in Windy. I couldn't get the quest until I zoned after doing Glyph Hanger quest. I tried logging out and back in but that did not work. Zoning to West Sarutabaruta and coming back flagged the quest with no problems.

This does not requre Lost for Words as a prereq (which is a Windy mission), just rank 3 fame and Glyph Hanger.

Ok, I get the feeling there is some quest (not mission) that you have to do before this one.

I'm rank 5 (bastok) with max windy fame. However, I have done few windy quests (other than turning in cornettes). If anyone figures out what exactly is needed to activate this quest I'd love to know.

I found myself in exactly the same position as the one you described, and I found that the magic trigger was to complete the "Glyph Hanger" quest, first, and then zone.

"Glyph Hanger" is the quest to get the "Map of Horutoto Ruins", and it will take all of about five minutes to complete, if you start at the Opistery. See http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html?realm=Windurst&fquest=111 for all the details, but you really just have to go to the other tower of the Opistery (i.e. go to the Western one), talk to Hariga-Origa (to get the quest), run North to zone to West Sarutabaruta, talk to Ipupu in the tower between I-8 and J-8 (just a stone's throw from where you zoned in) and finally run back to Hariga-Origa.

Once you've done this quest, don't forget to zone once more, before expecting the "Early Bird Catches The Bookworm" quest from Tosuka-Porika.

Enjoy! ^^
how to get it

here's the deal... you can't have multiple quest from the same npc, so if you have one already, finish it, talk again, and you'll get the next one

Maxed out my fame.. rank 5 sandy... still no quest.

I get the impression that maybe you can't activate this quest if you have AF started? (I have pld af3 started)

... if so, what kind of deal is that, no relation to this npc or quests at all x_x

Never mind.

I did the Glyph Hanger quest and then I got the Early Bird quest.
Can't get it

I can't get Tosuka-Porika to give me the quest. All I get is, "What are you doing there? You look like an adventurer or some other riff-raff. It doesn't seem like you have any business with our distinguidhsed Library of Magic!"

I'm not from Windurst, but I do have my fame in Windurst maxed out.

What am I missing?

If you've started your dark knight af1 for the raven scythe, but haven't fought the NM yet, Quu Bokye will just tell you that a yagudo cherry upsets Vaa Huja the Erudite...

and so, at this point, you're forced to insert "finish your AF1" before trading in the silver beastcoin.

>_<
Not enough fame?
# Aug 29 2004 at 10:54 AM Rating: Decent
Yesterday I spent most of my time online doing enough of the bastore sardines quest to get to lvl 4 fame so I could do the Teleport-Mea quest. After getting that quest (I now officially hate bastore sardines and windurst in general...) I went back to the opsticiery whatever where that Taru is and she keeps telling me that adventurer trash like me has no business in there or something like that...in other words I can't get the quest. What gives?

The gaurd in the room wont accept the silver beastcoin. I tried trading it with him and he doesn't accept it. Whats up with that?
Lost for words not required
# Jul 04 2004 at 3:18 AM Rating: Decent
You don't need to have done the mission "Lost for Words" first. If you have not started Lost for Words, you can get this quest. I am a windurstian, and I got it, and I am not finished with "lost for words" right now, yet I am able to do the quest.
Just did this quest

Tosuka-Porika is at G-8 in the North part of Waters

When you talk to Furakku-Norakku, she gives you a Key Item: Overdue Book Notification

Overdue Book Notification

This letter reads:
"This is your final notification to
return the following overdue book
to the Optistery's Library of Magic:
"Art For Everyone"
Failure to return this book immediately
will result in a string of fearsome
curses being cast in your direction.
Yours sinisterly,
Tosuka-Porika, Librarian."

When you give the silver beastcoin to Quu Bokye, he gives you a Key Item: "Art For Everyone",

"Art For Everyone"

The book from the Library of Magic
that a Hume named Orn had out on
loan.
It is easy to read, with many
illustrations, but is thick and heavy.

Key Items are good, since my inventory space is limited :)

I've just done 17 quests trying to get enough fame to get the aspir quest (which still hasn't opened to me) and this quest JUST became available. I'm from Sandy though, so maybe that has something to do with it.
I Cant start the Quest

My friend and i have both completed a testing time, and Lost for Words, and have many quests completed throughout windurst. We are lvling to attempt 2-3, but we figured it would be easy to get this quest out of the way. We both have been in the treasure room, we both have the silver beastcoin (basically did a dry run of the quest), parika just wont let us activate the quest, we took some time between a Lost for Words and this one, would that affect it? Does it require a certain level of fame?
