soloing

These are pretty good exp for soloing with a level 75 job. They are incredibly easy with a decently equipped THF75/NIN37. I really enjoy farming these for plumes and feathers. It is also just about the best exp you can get for your NPC buddy (without being in a party with someone else).

Nobody really camps in the valley anymore, so if you enter from the northern entrance, you can pull non stop.

I get 85-95 experience points per fight @75... in 60's with NPC.

With Treasure Hunter II, G. Bird Feather drop rate is decent (1 in 2 or so), but not so good for G. Bird Plume (1 in about 5).

No good for Mana Burns

Was in a 55ish mana burn eating right through all the raptors when this agros the puller ( umm me) No one could sleep it to save our lives. Killed it though, all BLMs cast freeze just the same as i run around trying to dodge attacks. Not worth it though.
A nice change from Crabs

Been xping off these for a few days. Intresting fight comming off of Raptors and stupid easy crabs. Nasty AOE, Hit very hard. Our Static consists of Galka PLD/WAR Hume DRG/WAR Taru BLM/WHM-me and Taru SMM/WHM. We have been picking up RDM of course, along with a BRD/?.

Bards are great to have when fighting these at 58 and up. Deffinatly based on Wind and weak to Ice, and not much else. Really scucked at 58 & at 59 until Elemental Skill capped again, even with Aquilo's and Moldy, some Ice spells were getting half resist. it would be nice having a Shamans cloak along for these at 58-59.

Great xp though, 245 along, max 300 in chain. Blizzaga II did 700's at 58 on distortion, and crept to 800's at 59 with capped skill on Ice day.

I was in a exp pt and this aggro'ed the ranger and he had to pull, so we tried fighting it. My experience shows they are defeatable by Lv.58-60 parties but have huge evasion.
Thank you for your time. :P

Dont fight these w/o some sort of heavy DD. At 59 on my Ninja these things sucked hard. My WS didnt break double digits and normal swings hit for 0-5 changed with zerk on though, granted all the other melee were 60-61 >_>

Slug Shot > Tachi Yukikaze + MB destroyed them though. Triple Attack sucked, but dmg hovered around 350-380 dmg, not too bad but if you have no shadows ready, pray :3

Seeing these are 70-72 explains why the parties of 57-61s I've been in had a tough time killing them. Several have been much tougher than the others too, so be careful.

As a BLM, I figured out they are based on air because I've never landed any Aero spell unresisted on them (before finally checking this page). They've also resisted a ES+Sleep with my enfeebling capped. Bind stuck with an Ice Staff though.

Don't toss your giant bird plume drops, they sell for quite a bit on the AH.

Last night we took these down easily with a level 59-60 party consisting of a pld/war, drg/war, thf/nin, whm/blm, blm/whm, and a redmage/cant_remember. I noticed that after parties around us would die when they pulled them and was wondering why because we were killing them in about 30seconds to a minute. Makes more sense now that I looked it up 72-75....

Our strategy was that the whm have about 300MP before the pull, precharge sata.. wait, pull and do a sata on pld then run around and do sata viper (I was 59thf/nin) with the drg for a distortion and mb, a couple more hits and they would be dead. Most the time the whm used less then 100 MP on cures and I would quickly pull a raptor for another chain (hitting exp chain 5 regularly). Basically Blitzcraig (not sure if that's spelled right). 240+ xp per on average.

More then a few times we would bale out other parties who were in trouble/dying/dead with very little effort. Moral of the story: If your not a well organized party, I would not suggest pulling these, but if ya are... the xp is awsome :)

I am suprised at the post I see about these things. I was in a party of lvl 57 me 58-59 mages and 60 pld and 60 dark. The dark and i both had great acc gear he absorbed agl and dex all the time and neither of us could hit this thing. Our healer was a smn with the Fen with acc boost. I just hard a crazy hard time trying to hit this guy. We fought a few because they were in the way of the raptors.
easy

was in a 57-59 party with a PLD tank, these things hit hard, but don't meet it with DEF, good to chain with, or to end chain

These are great XP at level 57/68.
Was in a party in VoS a few days ago, NIN,RNG,DRG,WHM,BLM,RDM, Lv 57-58, all but one 58 i think.
We were afraid for these since they are lv 72 - 75, and the 60-61 party that were there before us had some trouble with them. But one was in the way of our Raptors, and we had our 2hrs ready, it got owned. So we thought it must have been a weak one... we just kept chaining everything there, ended about 15k xp ^^

But i advice a NIN tank though.
perma3
# Sep 25 2004 at 11:15 PM Rating: Decent
In my perma3 static, we've gotten about 4 or 5 chain #4 343 exp on these. We are lvl 59-60, and they are quite simple with our party configuration. :)

#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 18 2004 at 3:40 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) 343 xp eh? im assuming u hit 3 by accident and meant to type 243, if not u musta been high on somethin

343 is possible wise guy. They raised the cap a month ago. I got a similar number on chain 4 in Cape Terrigan the other day.

How would someone with no jobs over 30 know anything about the experience points these things can give?

Some are really hard @@
# Jul 26 2004 at 3:48 AM Rating: Decent
I was in a pt of 59~61, most were 61. We were chaining some of these, and they chained well. But about the 4th one we pulled, with all my DEF buffs on, I was getting hit for 110~140 per hit. At half health, this bird had drained all of our MP, and we barely beat it with about 4 two hours used. He gave only 180 exp too. :( So I would say these do in fact go up to 72, but most seem to be lower. But when one starts hitting hte PLD for over 100 constantly, you know you found the 72. :P

I don't think these are quite lvl 72-75. We got 187 exp on a chain 1 with a 60-61 party which would imply they are 69+ (the 187 exp on cain 1 is 8 lvls above I believe). We fought 4 of these i belive and that was the lowest we got. So I would guess they are 69-72.
Perfect

Perfect to exp on with groups around 58-60 or 59-61. We exp on these and if you skillchain you can get up to 260 exp on a chain.

These birds are highly resistant to great katana damage. i was almost doing the same damage as the paladin tank was doing with a 1 handed sword ><.
Specials to be aware of when fighting these. They can do AOE wind damage. "Triple Attack" can take away up to 3 shadows from utsusemi and also cause major damage if you have a paladin tank. "Scratch" blinds the person with aggro. and some feathershield ability that gives evasion boost. Overall they suck in general and can be exp chain killers if you can't kill them fast enough. But they are there.. in the way of raptors so your bound to fight them.
Just killed it.

Just killed it pretty easily with a party of 58-59s (whm/blm/rdm/pld(me)/drk/rng). No 2hrs used and no close calls. Mages were pretty much drained though. Got 200 xp but for the time it took it wasn't worth it.

Dropped 3 light crystals and a giant bird feather.
