drop rate on the hair sucks big time.. they don't drop tusks in bhalafu but they do drop marid hide's.
"BLM happy"

Man, these USED to be good blm farming mobs for hair... now every blm thinks they should test their skill and farm them and undercut what was a pretty steady price. I wish kids understood the concept of "supply and demand"... now these things aren't worth farming.

The imps were overcamped tonight, so we decided to give Marids a shot in wajom woodlands. Party started at 67-69, with PLD, RDM, WHM, BLM, BLU, MNK.

This setup was rather MP dependent, and had I had a choice of DD's i would have gone with RNG instead of BLM (even though BLM was great, water3/blizz3 kills chigoes), and I would have gone with a WAR or DRK instead of BLU (marids magic resistant, BLU did good but not the best DD for them). With 5 MP jobs we had a bit more downtime than I liked, but it was manageable. Overall, we gained about 30k XP tonight, with tank only dying twice (once due to triple stampede (TP move), and once more when the BLM didnt pick up the chigoe)

XP for marids was great, even if they only pop 5 fleas now. Fleas gave average of 75xp, and with a chain 5 the Marid would give 303xp (w/o band, but with aht urgan xp bonus). XP did take a bit of a drop at 70, with fleas giving around 50xp and chain 5 Marid giving 275xp.

This was a great camp, and a good alternative to imps. We averaged just over 5k/hr. Grand Marid's did pop several times, but don't pose much of a problem. I noticed they took a bit longer to kill, and we were not able to break off their tusks.

Toward the end of our session, the BLM bailed out, and we started killing them @5 for the last few thousand xp. The xp went back up to 303 for chain #5 for 69-70 party.

Other noteworthy things is that the Marid has a TP move (i forget exactly which one it is) that absorbs a buff from 1 person (normally tank). So the tank had Pro4 stolen from him alot. Imperitive that protect be recast, otherwise the Marids start hitting very hard. Also, you will get TONS of crystals (as well as tons of seals!), so make sure you have inventory space. Oh, and Marid's hair are worth 35k on Unicorn, so was nice bonus.

Exp party

So I went to hunt these today (Aug. 17th) after the xp nerf on these with a 67-69 party. Heres the low down...

Party setup:

69 RDM/blm
69 PLD/war
68 DRK/war
69 WHM/blm
67 BLM/whm
67 THF/nin

Camp: (J-7) Wajaom Woodlands

Method of killing:

The fleas now give exp again and still chain for higher exp, however the mob will only make a MAX OF 5 Fleas! So basicly you have a normal party set up, but make sure you have a blm and a drk helps too.

At the start the drk and blm should stun any tp move the mob makes in order ot stop spawns from happening too fast. Also the DRK should use Asorob:TP to take the mobs TP. Then around 60% of the mobs hp the stuns should stop (depending on how much dmg your party does).

The first 4 fleas to spawn should be nuked to death by the blm with either targeted or AOE spells (targeted saves alot of mp). However, when the 5th flea spawns the blm and rdm should try to sleepII it. They will get a few failed sleeps but keep trying those things arent too bad dmg to the mages. Then when the Marid is around 10% hp have the blm kill the last flea.

The reason for the sleep II on the 5th flea is to ensure you get an exp chain 5 on the mirad.

With this set up heres the exp per fight example for 2 mobs:

M o b : 1 , 2
Flea 1: 62 49
Flea 2: 73 58
Flea 3: 77 60
Flea 4: 80 63
Flea 5: 86 69
Mirad: 320 293
Total: 698 592

This took us a total of 17 min to kill the two mobs, thus per hour:

(698 xp + 592 xp)/17 min = 75.88 xp/min * 60 min = 4552.8 exp/hour

Conclusion: The exp isnt as good as it once was, however it still is good exp for the 67-69 gap. The reason this party did these was because 2 people had 2/5 runic portals and it was the wrong 2 for this lvl. Since the camp is right outside of town we were able to come here very quickly. Downside is this method takes a well tuned party with a rdm, drk, and blm and exp is closer to 3.5k per hour if you do not get a chain 5 on the marids.

I hope this post has helped you understand the exp changes to the mirads! Please rate me up if it has!

Edit: please note that these numbers were taken while Sanction was on and astral consendance was in Aht Urhgan. Thus there is an exp bonus from sanction.

The Grand Marid seems to be a lottery pop of the Marids. I've killed Marids for hours and never saw one, but today I killed Marids for three hours and saw three Grand Marids. Seems completely random.

As far as it's NM status goes...technically it's not. Every Grand Marid I've killed was checkable, and checked as VT. They don't have any more HP than the regular Marids, and they don't seem to resist magic any more than the others. Sadly, they don't seem to drop anything special, either. They drop Earth Crystals, Marid Hides/Hairs, and Kindred Seals, etc.. The only real bonus to fighting them is that they give a little more EXP than the little version: 331 as opposed to 285.

Maybe SE will make these tougher and upgrade them to actual NMs sometime in the future. At the moment, they're not that special.

I heard that this mob is a good XP mob, until SE took away the chigeo's XP.
Then the Update on the 24 with the new merits- I read chigeo's give XP again.

Has anyone tried to XP off of madrids again and is it back to normal ?

Thanks for any reply

I've yet to see a marid hair drop, even after the 30th kill. Maybe it's just simply my luck.
Wow...
# May 10 2006 at 3:24 PM Rating: Excellent
I have to say...these are the best EXP with a 67-69 Party, with good members, 2 tanks, a whm, DD and possible DD RDM, the chigoes drop 80-100 exp possible, we reached chain 10, and finished off Marid for the chain, and 450-570 exp without a band. Downtime's a little long, but for each Marid, you pull 800-1.5k exp, in about 8-10 minutes with chains 7-11.

Oh, also i don't think they link to each other, but might link to flea spawn. We killed enough of them and spawned a "Grand Marid" it linked only to a flea spawn.

These are great to EXP on, and you can go higher than 69 with them. I've EXPed off them with 73-75 parties, the EXP goes down per kill, but the time it takes to kill them also goes down. I was still getting 300-500 EXP per kill without a ring. My one advice is to bring a MNK as they can usually one-hit kill the Chigoes past 70 or so.

Also, they do link. Not only that, but the Grand Marid does link with the normal Marid... He spawned while we were fighting a normal Maird and attacked... now *THAT* was an exciting battle :-D

FWIW, I've been out there now in 2 parties, gained approx 30k from them, and seen the Grand Marid spawn half a dozen times I'd bet. I have no idea what the Grand Marid means or does differently than the normal Marid. My hope is he is a placeholder for some as of yet unknown NM, but I haven't seen anything spawn instead of him yet.
Chigoes
# May 03 2006 at 11:31 PM Rating: Decent
Lmao. My friend spawned one and heim and his LS had about 2 chasing and when they zoned and came back they watched as people got aggroed by chigoes. Lol, about 8 people died. Noboyd was reported. I died to in 1 hit. LV 20 deleveled.
Marid TP
# May 03 2006 at 10:32 PM Rating: Decent
Anyone that has fought these alot will notice that they sometimes spam the **** out of WS after an initial chigoe has been spawned thus causing more and more chigoe to spawn.

I believe that Marid build TP 4 ways; Hitting the Marid, the Marid hitting you, you hitting the Chigoe and the Chigoe hitting you all result in the Marid gaining TP.

Anyone with similar or different findings let me know what you think.

Marid's do not agro, however if you zone the Marid
the fleas will stay behind even if the Marid despawns and the fleas will attack anyone passing by. If the Marid ko’s you the flees will attact anyone passing by.

Please do not fight these by the zone lest the fleas attack someone and you get reported to a GM.
manaburn
# Apr 30 2006 at 1:44 AM Rating: Default
if se wanted to stop/slowdown manaburns, why did they put these so close to zone and make it so that only manaburns can exp off them? blms can kill these b4 they get a ws off, if a normal pt gets those chigoes it'll break the chain :/ decent exp and some decent money drops, and sooo close to a city zone.

Trust me, these don't aggro. You must have pissed them off somehow. My 75PLD and a 70BLM friend of mine tested the aggro of just about every mob in this zone.

These mammoths so far from what we are finding do not agro (unsure if they link) but they do spawn fleas.

If you are ko'd by the Madrid the fleas stay and some unknowing passer-by may be agroed by them.

From what I have seen so far, the Chigoe(sp?) parasite flea things spawn and aggro from using weapon skills. Can anyone else confirm this?

Marids and Karakuls spawn a flea (Chigoes) every time they (the mob, not a player) use a WS. You won't get out of fighting fleas by not using WSs on these, sadly. Fleas are really only minor annoyances, though. They can be one-shotted by Shield Bash, Weapon Bash, or Jumps, regardless of their HP, and have very little HP/defense anyway. They just attack very fast (very weak, but fast) and have additional effect: plague on their attacks.
