I love my 'bad' habit of window-shopping on the AH. I saw a stack, yes 12, of these for sale and decided to lot 200k. Well next thing I knew I had 12 phantom tathlums as 50 WHM.
So I sold 9 of them back at 180k each in singles, coming to a nice 1.6m gil made, only took two days to sell them. I kept the other 3 for myself, my girlfriend and my sister :D.
I also get the feeling that the person i bought the stack off was a gilseller (just a hunch), so double-yay. Lesson of the day: don't be afraid to try what might seem like a ridiculous bid ;) you might get lucky.

theres a jpn player on my server who buys a stack of these nearly every other day. are they used for crafting or is he reely as sick as i think and he throws them?

Up to 370-380k on Ragnarok. Bought mine for about 300k. I tossed it about 4 hours ago. 300k gone, now I'll have to spend close to 400k to get another. Doesn't seem worth it. >.>

How does the additional effect work does it work if you throw it or does it work if you hit it with a melee weapon? I always thought it only worked if you threw it but i read the imperial egg thing and they suggest it works if you hit it with melee. someone set me straight on this

The additional effect would only happen if you throw this at a mob. And like most additional effects, it may not even happen, as it's usually a random chance as to whether an additional effect will activate or not. It was never designed to be thrown, and I cannot think of a single scenario where you would do so.

When I hit 65THF I'll go after this guy with a Garuda's Dagger on Windsday so the Silence procs most of the time. He'll be (Too Weak) without those spells of his.
I have thrown this TWICE!!!!! while helping out on missions or skilling up by accident. I don't even notice till 4 hours later when I look at my ammo slot. I know this has happened to others, but the thing that bugs me is that I originally bought this for 80k on AH, but now.... it's gone up to 180k...WTF!? And I look at the history and I see a well known Gilseller that jacked up the prices. This blows, I wouln't have mind re-purchasing it at 80k, but now I really hate gilsellers that farm NM's.

dont feel to bad the 300k + on ifrit atm not to mention that fact that you can all think what you want but gilsellers do not control and jack up all the prices just as one of those stuped gilsellers we want to make as much gill as posable so if u wana blame some one for the inflations of all prices in this game not only blame gillsellers but blame the high lvl synthers with there millions of gill who still find a way to be selfish enouph to price an item at 6 times wat its worth because they got a manopoly. and remember there are only so few gill sellers and u can not blame every thing on them no matter how much u hate them becuase the only thing that they ruin is the fun of nms.
PS just stating the cold hard facts I in no way support the gilsellers or gill buyers in any way. As they do ruin the fun in this game and make it so any one with a nice pocket book can have anything they want.

Well maybe the price wouldn't be so high if you people would stop throwing them at mobs.
Anyone who reads this has probably heard of the training war between groups of gilsellers who were camping this NM, if you haven't look in the general forums, its hilarious!!!

Seems odd how the earring gives +1 INT so that you basically lose effectiveness crafting it.

The +1 version has 10 mp and +2 int though, and having that in two slots, and then a third phantom thalum would be nice =)

But, if you had one of these and two of the phantom earrings, it would net you 4 + INT, and 26 MP. Or if you had two of the +1's you'd have 6 + INT and 30 MP.
I know they stack to 12 along with the morion talthum. The effects of the morion talthum don't stact but do the effects of the phantom talthum stack?

Don't know the exact position but it spawns near a pond on the second map of Kuftal Tunnel. 15 min spawn I believe.
This is not a soloable mob till about 70, this worm uses Quake which can kill others in the area. I've seen DRK kill this at 70 and still have problems.

Heh. . . Many jobs must be 7 O + to solo this, but I believe there are some exceptions. In my opinion a BLM/WHM or RDM can solo this at the same level as the worm. RDM getting Gravity, Phalanx, and Dispell really comes in handy. RDM sub job for this fight if BLM in my opinion is the ultimate choice. As for BLM sub you have tons of nuking room being that it is a worm and if it starts to really cast something like Quake just throw in your Stun! Some other jobs also may be able to solo this before 7 O though. Maybe NIN ? RDM ? What else ? Any ideas ? Hope this helps. Good luck.

So let me get this straight... Your gonna cast Gravity on a worm? Interesting. And correct me if I am wrong but how do you propose using Stun. I am assuming your talking about the spell which is for lvl 45 BLM and 37 DRK. So the only way a RDM could utilize it would be to be lvl 74+ and be subbing DRK. Anyways besides that I like your idea :)
I think he was saying that you can use Stun as BLM. The way it was worded was a bit confusing, but if you read it carefully he wasn't suggesting RDM can use Stun, rather BLM/RDM.

Does anyone know if this is a tradeskill item like the Morion Tathlum? The weaker version of this makes a very nice, and very expensive earing...

Yes, it's used to create a Phantom Earring. The price tag on it makes the Morion Earring look like nothing.

one time use, as in do not throw it, it becomes a very expensive throwing weapon....
