Description

The sand in this bronze hourglass mysteriously disappears before reaching the bottom, only to reappear again at the top.

Note:

The bottom line indicates the Dynamis zone for which the hourglass is valid, and the date and time of expiry. On an expired hourglass, the bottom line will read:

unknown : --- --

Ok so what I want to know is...what is going to a Dynamis really good for,and what is there?
What is a perpetual hourglass?
# Aug 21 2005 at 4:54 PM Rating: Good
I have heard many many questions about what a perpetual hourglass is. What is it for? How do I get one? Is it really worth 1mill gil?
Well now im going to try to answer there questions.

Whats is it for? It is used to enter a Dynamis world. Bastok, Sandoria, Windurst, Jeuno, Xacrabard, or Beaucedine Glacier.

How do I get one? This is obatined after givign a goblin merchant 1,000,000g. He will then give you a timeless hourglass which is to be given to a trail mark in one of the areas with a Dynamis world. Once trading it to that are you will recieve this Perpetual hourglass. This can be used to make more. All you do is go to items select it and use it and you have another one.

Is it really worth 1mill gil? No it is not. I got mine for 1g. Because these are able to be made over and over there is no price. In my opinion if someone is nice they should give them out for free.

Well I hope this clears up some confusion. Don't take my word for fact but as a good gesture. I'm pretty sure I am correct but not 100%.
What is a perpetual hourglass?

When the timeless hourglass is traded for the perpetual hourglass, and then subsequently broken up so that everyone who is entering dynamis can have one, the glasses themselves expire after a certain amount of time. The amount of time they last is dependent on how many time extentions are cleared inside dynamis through killing various mobs. Anyway, getting the max amount of extentions will make the hourglass last only a few hours. Afterwards, the players are ejected from the zone and can no longer enter it using the hourglass they were given. After this point, the hourglass is USELESS. Meaning, if you purchased one from someones bazaar, congratulations, cause you just purchased something that you cannot use. After being ejected from the dynamis zone it is commonplace to just drop the glass, but some people will bazaar them as a joke to see who will buy it.

Unknown?
# Mar 16 2005 at 8:13 PM Rating: Decent
Mine has some dashes but it does NOT look like the pic. It says "Unknown" with a few dashes after it. I read in some FAQ that these are good for 20k in a bazaar, and that's how I found it and bought it since I had plenty of spare cash to toss around at the time.

So does Unknown mean I can use it?
no they don't sell for 1 million gil

This is the "ticket" to get into Dynamis. The part at the bottom, that is all dashes, would be filled in with the information specific to that Dynamis (the time of the Dynamis event, etc). If it's all dashes like in the screenshot, the hourglass has no function.

so exactly how would you find an hourglass and if you do how do you manage to dupicate the item enough times to be able to go to dynamis coninuously.
umm...but i thought....
# Aug 30 2004 at 3:30 AM Rating: Decent
i could have sworn Playonline said these could be used over and over... but you can only use it one place at a time...this is the first time i seen anything about hour glasses being worthless (unless 64 people have allready entered first) you people sure? has any of you used one yet or is this another bs load of garbage?
RE: umm...but i thought....

I go to Dynamis twice a week. I can assure you that they can only be used once. Well, they can be used as many times as necessary to leave and re-enter a Dynamis area during the time allotted (a maximum of 210 minutes), but once that time is expired, the hourglass is completely worthless.

ok i have a question
i have one same as the pic show above and it is unused, can anyone tell me how to duplicate another one that has no date on it?
b/c i saw someone have 10 unuse hourglass
RE: question

Every Perpetual Hourglass is used--trading the original Timeless Hourglass to the trail markings to get the first Perpetual Hourglass starts the clock ticking on that Dynamis area.

The dashes at the bottom means that the time in Dynamis has expired, meaning that the hourglass is completely worthless.

As many have said, this is the item required for entry in to Dynamis. This is how it works ...

A single individual trades 1,000,000 gil to one of the goblin merchants that stands at the entrance to the beastmen areas. The goblin gives him a Timeless Hourglass.

The Timeless Hourglass is then traded to a set of Trail Markings (not goblin footprint) in Southern San d'Oria, Windurst Walls, Bastok Mines, Ru'Lude Gardens, Xacrabard, or Beaucedine Glacier. Doing so reserves that Dynamis area, and the individual receives a Perpetual Hourglass back.

The Perpetual Hourglass can then be "used" to duplicate it as many times as necessary. There is no "parent" hourglass -- they can all be duplicated by anyone who has one. The Perpetual Hourglass is given to anyone who is to enter Dynamis--they trade the perpetual hourglass to the Trail Markings to be teleported in to Dynamis.

You'll notice the dashes at the bottom of the screenshot. That means that the time on the hourglass has expired, and the hourglass is completely worthless. If the hourglass still had time on it, there would be a location (for example, Dynamis-Bastok) and a time there instead. The time is the time that hourglass will expire in your local time.

You can rest assured that if you are given a Perpetual Hourglass by a stranger, or weren't invited to go on a Dynamis run, then it is worthless because either a) the time has expired, or b) the group has retreated or given up anyway.

Can you really duplicate it indefinitely, or only up to 64 copies? Thanks for the great informative post by the way.

Yes, the hourglass itself can be duplicated indefinitely, but only 64 people may be in a given Dynamis area at a time. The server records the first 64 players to enter a given Dynamis area for that time slot, and they are the only people who will be able to return do that area during the alotted time if they leave for some reason (by warping, returning to home point, etc.).

Correction... You don't get this from a Goblin Footprint, you have to trade a Timeless Hourglass (go look into that) to the footprint and you get THIS.
