Drg/BLU
# Oct 20 2006 at 7:11 AM Rating: Decent
Any drg that like to sub a mage from time to time should try drg/blu. its fun to solo with especially with all the stat bonuses you get. and of course healing breath works as usual with anything you cast. Plus sisnce most blu spells go off of your physical stats bludgoen does about as much as a regular attk. and wildoats and stuff works even on higher lvl mobs. My blu is only 30 and wildoats works on lesser colibris. And you have the added bonus of cocoon and metallic body^^.
Bourdonasse or Narval?

Personally, if i was to go fight some undead, i'd use a Bourdonasse. I've tested it myself, and the Bourdonasse does in fact do blunt damage (I hit skeles with it equipped for around 227-253 @70DRG). I dont actually have a Narval myself, but from what i understand, the additional effect doesn't proc all too much, and it doesnt do blunt damage. As for being able to eat raw fish, i haven't a clue, but...that doesnt seem like a great reason to be using it against undead if you can pull off more than 2x damage on a skele. My two cents, anyway.
Good for solo/exp

Hi, i just thought i would add a little bit of "useful info about this weapon.I myself am a 67DRG who enjoys soloing and pt EXP alike. as for the Narval, it is amazing for both. Against crabs and raptors in cape, the dmg diff is quite noticeable. I still hold my GKL just in case. I still like this and GKL better than Cermet+1 (even with the lower delay Cermet offers)

As for Undead... yes, the additional isaw ranged from 35-40 but , does NOT proc often. I did it over several game days in Eld.Necropolis, but missed Watersday so there is potential for higher rate. The dmg difference from GKL is miniscule. It does not do Blunt dmg. Wyvern tanked (had to switch to /war to try and keep hate) I did avg of 90 per hit.. Wyvern... 120+

Overall... Great weapon if you dont need the added Acc (mithra, hume, taru) the healing magic add, nice, but not noticeable really. my wyverns healing breaths do 210 to me.
(ps. my healing, enhancing etc etc all capped for a 75rdm)

I hope this helped with decisions on this Lance. thank you. Good luck on getting it and the siren hair.

thats a good idea but the only problem is that undead are weak to fire not water

well light magic(which fire is apart) but the water damage is guarented 40-50+ dmg when it triggers, i've tested it out soloing necroplois coffer key skeletons(boudanise FTW though lol) everytime the water dmg triggers it's always been 40+ with average damage round 60-80+ per swing

oh and yes you can indeed eat raw fish when this lance is equiped @_@;;

This thing is heaven sent! Imagine soloing against bones as DRG/ RDM or WHM, you would have awesome healing breaths, extra damage against them from water, and you could even cast healing magic on them from sub job.
Now where are there bones that would give decent exp solo at lv67??
I thought maybe under GC cus I fell down there once and got slaughtered by skeletons. Or I think Elderneime Necropolis would be about lv67 but I dunno.

thats a good idea but the only problem is that undead are weak to fire not water so you are still gonna fall victim to Spears doing not so great damage to them. Plus i would reccommend whm as sub if you do because you are gonna need blindna and whatnot(forget what level it is but i do know rdm doesn't have it)
uhmm yeah

I can confirm this weapon lets you eat fish, but it doesnt do blunt/slashing weapon damage.

I hear also that Bourdanasse (or however it's spelled) has the hidden effect of being a blunt edged spear to deal with skellies. It's a BCNM, however.

can anyone actually confirm that this does more / "normal" damage versus undead? i've heard of a Lance with a hidden effect, but can't remember which it was. If this IS it, i'd know the rumors were true =p

DRG/WHM or RDM > DRG/BLM
# Aug 22 2004 at 2:06 AM Rating: Default
Not Really.

DRG/WHM or DRG/RDM's Healing Breaths will own a DRG/BLMs. BLM might have a little more MP and Poison costs a little less, but the quality of the Healing Breaths aren't as good.

And Divine Seal + Curaga II + Super Jump is always nice.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 16 2004 at 7:59 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) DRG/WHM and DRG/RDM suck compared to DRG/BLM fastcast isn't that much faster, and Poison is still cheaper. BLM have more MP, and you get Tractor, Warp, Escape, Aspir, and Drain...

*Eyeroll.* Goddess, sometimes you really do think you know everything, and it's pretty sad.

As high as level 50, a DRG/BLM only out-MPs a DRG/WHM by 13 MP (as a Hume at least). Bear in mind as well that Dragoons have a naturally low INT. Your MP is more or less useless to do anything but Poison-spam for Healing Breath, or Warp and/or Escape.

As a DRG/WHM, you are able to be a more supporting member of the party. If a monster has an elemental base, you can -ga spell a resistance to that element if the White Mage is too busy or doesn't have the time. You are also able to keep better track of status ailments on your party members because you're right up close with the other melee members who are also being hit with them.

Don't forget the fact that we have Super Jump for a reason -- to shed hate. If a Healing Breath isn't enough and you need to cast something quick, you are easily able to Divine Seal + Curaga (II at higher levels) and jump away any and all hate you would have gained. Plus even if you can't, you're able to take a better hit than the poor White Mage behind you.

I'm not going to tell you that DRG/BLM sucks, Goddess ... but I am going to tell you that you should rethink your little attitude towards DRG/WHM.

i think drg/ any mage job is just stupid. dragoon is a dd, and is invite to parties to do just that, deal damage. having a war or thief sub is much more profitable. mage sub would only be good for soloing
RE: Lol
# Oct 22 2005 at 11:07 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah, and you would be stupid and not survive long. DRG/WHM is *one* of the best soloers in the game and does great in parties. They can help WHM's or RDM's heal the party and status ailments and can Divine Seal+Curaga(II)+Super Jump and you've already really helped the party immensely by doing that, not to mention wyvern breaths are GREAT.
Think like this:
8 HP isn't much when something deals 20+ damage, but 8 MP for one cure can do so much more.
1. The cure should do 25+ hp heal, then the wyvern can do a healing breath for 150+... then if you have DRG AF Helm, it goes without saying, the amount healed is way better. Also, with WS the wyvern will heal of any status ailments, and in the end they lose very little defense, hp, atk, and str.
The only reason to sub a melee at high levels is if you have many WHM's fighting an HNM or damage is absolutely needed because you KNOW the healing at or in wherever you are is sufficient.

i was like you before .... when i tried drg/whm ( my whm was at 13 lol and my drg at 46) i noticied some intresting things :
-you dont loose too much def and hp
-you dont loose too much attack and STR
-the healing breath IS GREAT if you know how to use it you can rellay rok

my suggestion is try /mage before talking

Well I myself have yet to see one, in fact. :p
undead killer

if im correct this is also the only lance in the game that undead dont resist dmg on.
oh my god
# Jul 27 2004 at 3:21 PM Rating: Excellent
last night was helping people on the ninja quest and 2 died so i was killing the mobs around there bodies while whm came to raise them, then out of no where a high level sends me a /tell saying this "hey want an awsome drg only lance? its rare exclusive and none of us can use it and dont want it to go to waste, want it?" so obviously im like sure and they invite me to pt and no one passed on it yet and the pool went out befor they could and i still got the item lol, turns out item was this one, i got it absolutely free no work done for it, i cant wait till 67 to use it
drg/whm?
# Jun 26 2004 at 1:11 PM Rating: Default
i'd say drg/rdm would be better, since you could then fastcast dia in order to get your wyvern to heal ppl ^^
awesome
# Jun 20 2004 at 2:23 AM Rating: Default
Finally, something that SE put in the game to slap all those ppl who said Drg/whm isnt feasible. /em uses Pentathrust on all of them, with the Narval. /em uses advanced healing power to heal them all.

SMN. :P Carbuncle/Leviathan/Garuda -> Heals without the SMN grabbing hate.

Of course, they have to wait about a minute between casts, and can't heal as much as a DRG could (especially a DRG with Refresh), but... :P
